The Diva Dirt Roundtable returns for a special — Best Bits of 2009! The Diva Dirt team have gotten together to discuss the year gone by, picking our favourite moments and memories. We also pick the Diva who we think will have the biggest year in 2010.

Plus on top of that, we discuss last night’s Slammy nominations non-reveal and give our predictions as to who we think might win Diva of the Year tonight.

Join us tonight on the Post-Raw Show with Tiffany and Steven tonight straight after Raw, where we’ll discuss the Diva of the Year award winner, seeing how our Slammy predictions fared, tonight’s wrestling and we’ll be revealing two more ‘Best Bits’ categories; one for ‘WTF Moment of the Year’ and one for ‘Diva Dirt Moment of the Year’.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, last week’s Roundtable was cancelled at the last second. Sorry to waste your time with the discussion post last week! However, we will be honouring some of the news topics from last week.

As you’ll remember, last week we were getting ready to launch a brand new version of the Roundtable — this will now start next week! Beginning Monday, the Roundtable will be revamped! It’s out with the old and in with the new as we begin a new era of the Roundtable! The show will now have more of a ‘variety’ feel with news and topical debate based on current events.

Instead of a weekly WWE topic and TNA topic, the Roundtable will now be centered around discussing the headlines from the week gone by and bringing you even more news and observations from the different promotions. Each week, we’ll discuss the latest news making waves from the past week and putting our spin on it. The new Roundtable will also be more interactive, with reader surveys for each topic, letting you have the verdict!

What will remain: Where possible, we’ll still read out user comments on the discussion points. We will also be keeping the ‘Guess Who?’ game, the TV Talk and the Mailbag.

This week on the Roundtable: The Diva Dirt Roundtable has moved to it’s brand new home of Mondays here at Diva Dirt, and this week we have a special episode dedicated entirely to our newest team member and former WWE Diva, Krissy Vaine.

In a candid interview with the Diva Dirt team, Krissy speaks for the first time on the real reason she left WWE. You may think you know, but two years later, Krissy is able to speak freely about it for the first time — no diplomatic answers here, just straight, honest truth.

As well as her WWE journey, Krissy talks about working in developmental including: Deep South Wrestling and Florida Championship Wrestling; which current WWE Diva didn’t like her; what it was like working with girls such as Angelina Love, the Bella Twins, Taylor Wilde & Natalya; the story behind her SmackDown debut; working with Torrie Wilson and the former Victoria, Tara; Krissy even comments on that awful outfit she wore! No topic is off limits and Krissy tells us what it was like working with Stephanie and Vince McMahon as well as her future plans… including here at Diva Dirt!

When all was said and done, the new five-person team had been talking for nearly 2 hours! I can attest for the rest of us that Krissy is so sweet, charming and just an incredibly down to earth, fun person. But don’t take our word for it — listen to the Roundtable yourself!

Due to college schedules, we have moved the Diva Dirt Roundtable to Mondays beginning next week. That does mean there won’t be one this week unfortunately, but we’ll be back with a fresh new episode next Monday.

We’ve got something interesting lined up, so check back for that possibly later today.

The discussion posts will now be posted every Saturday, so you have the weekend to add your comments.

We talked about whether there is success and profit to be had in WWE or TNA, with the general feeling among the four of us being that TNA seems to be on a better footing in terms of equality between men and women — though not perfect. We told how a former WWE Diva told us that a few years ago she once had a match where the writers didn’t even give them a finish to the match, because they just didn’t care. Melanie played devil’s advocate wondering why WWE bothered to book matches if they don’t even care to book a finish which would take 30 seconds of their time. We also discussed whether, given TNA’s current downturn due to the Jarrett saga, if TNA could be on it’s way to closing and whether the Knockouts division could be a saving grace — by booking them more prominently as they already get higher ratings than the men.

The unanimous decision was that women’s wrestling would likely never be prominent in either promotion. For WWE, more work would be needed for the women to be taken seriously while TNA had less work to do. The Divas would have to break the mould of being just ‘smart, sexy powerful’ and have more focus on wrestling matches and developing character, something everyone agreed was not likely to happen.

There was some interesting discussion regarding the women’s division post-Trish, where we discussed the idea that WWE had lost confidence in the division since her departure. Despite talented all-rounders on the roster, they never get the same opportunities as Trish. Trish was seen as the main star of the division and was put into programmes where as a result of getting a rub from her, other girls were given more star power i.e. Lita, Victoria, Molly, Jazz, Mickie. There’s not even that one star today that can give the rub to the other Divas and it’s even less likely for WWE to push more than one Diva as prominently as they did Trish.

Roundtable Quiz
Steven once again won this week’s quiz beating Erin and Tiffany. Tiffany came second and Erin came last.

TV Talk
Impact - Steven and Tiffany agreed that Traci Brooks stood out more than ever, while Erin and Melanie disagreed and felt she was average in comparison to the other three Knockouts. Melanie touted Sarita’s style and Taylor’s heart & ability.

Raw - We agreed this was one of the best matches Raw has had in a while. Erin felt Kelly Kelly was the weakest link and was exposed to be a ‘spot monkey’ in the presence of the other three. Melanie felt that while Kelly is a spot monkey in standard matches, her spots were suited to this match. It was said that Alicia Fox worked well and made Kelly look even more inferior in the ring. Steven said that Alicia isn’t really suited to being a heel as she had a grin after Beth shoved her and she got back up and in Beth’s face.

Catchup: Dawn Marie Interview & This Week’s Roundtable

For those of you who have missed it, be sure to catch up on our exclusive audio content [and leave your feedback!] from the week gone by. Diva Dirt is the only women’s wrestling site that provides 100% free and exclusive audio content on a regular basis for our readers’ enjoyment.

This week, I had the opportunity to talk over the phone to former Diva and the founder of Wrestler’s Rescue, the wonderful Dawn Marie in an hour long conversation. Dawn discussed what she’s currently up to, as she aims to lose weight after giving birth to daughter Katie and also reveals upcoming plans for Wrestler’s Rescue. Looking back at her WWE career, Dawn talks about her storyline with Torrie Wilson, what she thought of Sable, her opinion of Michelle McCool [who had her first SmackDown match with Dawn] and what she thinks of the girls today. It’s definitely an interesting listen, Dawn is one of the most honest women in the wrestling industry and tells it like she sees it and puts it all out there for fans to know.

Possibly the most interesting part of our talk was what happened with Dawn and TNA. TNA President, Dixie Carter personally invited Dawn to join TNA and left the door open for her to come aboard whenever she wanted. After Dawn had gotten into a ring-ready shape for TV, she reveals that TNA took back it’s offer. She goes onto reveal that she believes a top TNA wrestler – who she once had a relationship with in WWE – was behind that situation.

Also this week was our second Diva Dirt Roundtable, featuring the whole Diva Dirt team and a guest panelist, reader Daniel. Following our well received debut last week, this week we covered Torrie Wilson’s recent comments on how she was unhappy with WWE’s treatment of her and other returnees at WrestleMania 25. Plus we discuss if we think there are too many Knockouts on the roster right now!

It takes a lot of time and effort to organise, record and edit the Roundtable so we can only continue if there’s enough interest from our readers. Following a good amount of feedback last week, this week we haven’t received as many comments — so please do share your thoughts because it means a lot to us!

TNA Topic: “The Knockouts division continues to gain new Knockouts but are there too many? One could argue that most of the Knockouts aren’t given enough screentime, unless involved in the title picture. Should TNA cut it’s roster down or find some way to placate the growing Knockouts division?”
