The WWE is set to hold a press conference today in New Orleans to discuss their next John Cena vehicle, “Brother’s Keeper”, which by the looks of it seems to be a step away from the Steven Segal-esque “things go boom” type of films that the WWE’s WWE Studios division had been specializing in. However, (and more interestingly in my opinion), it is speculated that they will announce the production of two new films at this press conference as well.

Now, it’s probably a very unlikely thing, but do you think it would be possible for a Diva to get in on the WWE Studios action? If this new heartfelt Cena movie is any indication, the WWE’s isn’t any longer interested in producing strictly testosterone fests, so I’d figure that makes it slightly more likely that Divas could appear in future films. I’m not kidding myself into thinking that they’d give a Diva a starring role, but it’d be interesting to see them on the big screen, no? For better or worse (and having seen some of them act, that latter might be more likely), I’d get behind the idea of a few Diva-related casting announcements. The WWE isn’t going to be winning any Oscars for their film work any time soon, obviously, but as long as they’re making popcorn fare and giving John Cena and Big Show something for their IMDB pages, why not give a Diva the chance to stretch her acting chops?

With that in mind, we at Diva Dirt have come up with a few movie roles in which a Diva could be cast. Are you listening, WWE Studios?

Mickie James as “the War-Affected Wife” à la Natalie Portman in “Brothers”
Mickie is a thoroughly southern girl–her recording a country music album is proof positive of that. What is more heartland America than the story of the war-affected family? These stories have been told many times on the screen, and the women are often portrayed as brave but lonely souls left to deal with their families and everyday life while their significant other is deployed overseas. Mickie has a natural wholesomeness about her (certain pictures notwithstanding) that could translate well to the story of an all-American woman in a decidedly tragic all-American tale.

Kelly Kelly as “the Frightened Pretty Girl” à la every actress in every horror movie ever made
One of the biggest horror movie cliches is the pretty young thing that faces the wrath of the villain. She’s not too bright, makes all the wrong decisions, but I’ll be damned if she doesn’t look pretty while being stalked and slaughtered. Kelly fits this description pretty well–she’s very pretty, but doesn’t get a lot of credit in the “intellect” department. She’s often manipulated by the more forceful heels and isn’t the toughest Diva around, but the fans love her. Thus, she’s got the popularity the horror movie female possesses, along with the lack of gumption that lands them six feet under by the end of the film.

Beth Phoenix as “the Woman Hell-Bent on Revenge” à la Melanie Laurent in the “Inglourious Basterds”
If the past has taught us anything, it’s that you don’t want to cross the Glamazon. She’s decimated many foes in the past, and she definitely seems the type that would hold a grudge–right, Santino? Thus, it’s easy to picture her as the personification of the old adage “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”, much like Shosanna, the vengeful Jewish girl in “Inglourious Basterds”. She is positively single-minded, going forward at all costs in her plot of revenge against the Nazis, and Beth echoes that “freakishly focused” mentality perfectly.

Melina as “the Woman in a Man’s World” à la Michelle Rodriquez in the “Fast & Furious” movies
Whether a heel or a babyface, Melina exudes an attitude that says that she is always trying to prove herself. Even as a champion, one gets the feeling that she is still reaching for that higher rung on the ladder. Similarly, the classic “woman in a man’s world” character is constantly looking to prove to her peers how she is just as good or even better than them, working perhaps too hard to do so at her own expense. Melina gives one the impression that she’d do almost anything if it meant improving her craft, and this eagerness to impress and prove her worth draws an accurate parallel to those “bad ass”, grease-and-sweat covered ladies playing alongside the boys.

Layla as “the Spunky Dancer” à la Briana Evigan in “Step Up 2 the Streets”
Layla’s a dancer, so it fits fundamentally. But, another feature that these plucky, spunky females possess is the focus that propels them to practice (in pop music-laced montages) endlessly until they reach their goal. Layla is one of those Divas that doesn’t let up when she’s in the ring–she’s constantly on her opponent, most often in a body-twisting submission hold, screaming at the referee and anyone who will listen if she doesn’t get an expected 3-count. In that sense, she’s relentless in her pursuit of victory, much like these ladies who aspire to dance their opponents to shame. It may be a different ballgame, but the effort is the same. Though, I’ll wager a guess to say that Layla’s ultimate goal probably doesn’t involve her street dancing in a conveniently-timed rainstorm.

Jillian as “the Slapstick Comedienne” à la Anna Faris in the “Scary Movie” movies
Jillian’s schtick, for a long time now, has been comedic relief. Her singing skits are decidedly hit-or-miss, but there’s no denying that she’s got a type of comedic bravery that allows her to make herself look foolish on a regular basis. This is comparable to the comediennes that practice the type of “slapstick” physical comedy that sets them apart from their fellow funny girls. Harkening back to the likes of Lucille Ball, they go balls-out to get a laugh, and don’t care how ridiculous they look in the process. Anna Faris, for example, does this type of comedy a lot, and Jillian appears to be mimicking that style of silliness in her song-and-dance routines, performing on and on despite the cascade of boos crashing down on her.

Maria as “the Unlucky-in-Love Heroine” à la the leading woman in most romantic comedies
Maria is likable, evidenced by the glowing reactions she regularly gets from the fans. However, she has been often let down by the men in her life, facing betrayal despite her best efforts. From Santino to Dolph Ziggler, Maria mirrors that cliche “unlucky in love” romantic comedy heroine in that, despite her numerous positive qualities, can’t seem to find luck in the love department. She’s not had to act exasperated at a silly male companion nor bicker with one, but I’m sure if the WWE writers could have found a way to fit it into her storylines, they would have, because they’ve fit in most of the other cliches. Let’s face it–Maria’s the girl that the audience roots for despite her difficulties, but like the ladies toplining the endless, identical romantic comedies that Hollywood churns out, she’ll probably find a serendipitous happy ending sooner or later.

Alicia Fox as “the Queen Bee” à la Rachel McAdams in the “Mean Girls”
Alicia has been portrayed more as a follower than a leader so far in her WWE tenure, but if her character’s larger-than-life attitude is any indication, she’s got all the makings of a Queen Bee. Much like Rachel McAdam’s Regina George in “Mean Girls”, Alicia’s got an inflated sense of self worth and an attitude that turns off most people. She’s not seen a ton of success in the WWE just yet, but you wouldn’t know it judging by her confidence. She’s too new to have a train of underlings, but rest assured that when the time comes that Alicia is considered a “tenured Diva”, she’ll have plenty of followers to do her bidding. Until then, she can toot her own horn just fine. And hey, Rachel McAdams was well into her 20s when she played a high schooler, so if she can do it, why not Alicia?

Michelle McCool as “the Inspirational Outsider” à la Hilary Swank in “Freedom Writers”
Did you know that Michelle was a teacher in another life (if the announcers mentioning it 20 times every match since her debut didn’t burn it into your memory)? That little tidbit is the foundation of why I think she embodies that “inspirational outsider” character so well. She has a sense of leadership that shows through in her character–she doesn’t follow others, she is followed (Layla and Alicia can tell you that). Though she is a snotty heel at the present, the goodness of Michelle McCool is unmistakable, and you know deep down that she would be quite at home helping those underprivileged students like Hilary Swank in “Freedom Writers” or Michelle Pfeiffer in “Dangerous Minds”. She might be a straight-and-narrow “square”, but her never-say-die confidence will win them over and dramatically change their lives forever. Toss in a cheesy, soaring theme song and you’ve got yourself a movie!

Maryse as “the Obsessed Other Woman” à la Glenn Close in “Fatal Attraction”
Maryse’s biggest asset is her ego. No, really, it is. She might not be the best in-ring worker, but she has seen success in her short time with the WWE because of arrogance. Her gigantic ego gives her the ammo to pester her opponents and annoy them to the point where they go blind with frustration and allow her to slip away with a victory. She never wavers in her high estimation of herself, always and forever the “sexiest of the sexy”. She is “not going to be ignored“, people! It’s easy to pin her as the type that won’t take no for an answer, much like Glenn Close’s character in “Fatal Attraction” (the woman who uttered that quote, if you didn’t catch the reference). She won’t accept rejection, and will make life a living hell for anyone who tries it. It’s frighteningly easy to picture her boiling that bunny, no?

Eve Torres as “the Ugly Duckling Made Beautiful” à la Rachel Leigh Cook in “She’s All That”
No, Eve was likely never an “ugly duckling”, but the women in those types of roles weren’t either. Audrey Hepburn in “My Fair Lady”? Rachel Leigh Cook in “She’s All That”? Yeah.. Just toss on some unflattering clothes and accessories and you’ve got yourself a girl ripe for a makeover. With Hollywood standard of “ugliness”, Eve would only need a pair of horn-rimmed glasses, some homely clothes, and messy hair to fit the bill. By the end of the story, predictably, she’ll be her fully blossomed, beautiful self, and everyone will learn a valuable lesson in the process… or not.

We’re continuing the trend of branching Screen Sirens out to television! If you’re not familiar with it, what we do is take a female role in any field of entertainment, be it a television show, film, or even a book, and cast a Diva or Knockout in the role based on her personality, looks, and some good old-fashioned imagination. Oscars may not be in their future but the women of wrestling, in all their shapes, sizes, colors, and creeds are surely diverse and interesting enough to make the speculation nearly as fun as seeing them on the big screen.

Tonight, The CW premieres the second season of 90210 as well as rebooting Melrose Place. Both shows spoke to a generation in the 90s before being resurrected last year by the fledgling teen network.

90210 is a teen drama set in Beverly Hills, California and centers around the love lives, drama and school work of a bunch of rich teenagers. Sound familiar? Meanwhile, it’s older sister, Melrose Place which begins it’s first season tonight, is based around an apartment complex filled with 20-something year olds — hence the name!

Let’s begin with 90210, and we’re looking at teen characters Annie Wilson, Naomi Clark, Silver and Adrianna Tate-Duncan.

Character: Annie Wilson is the young newcomer to Beverly Hills along with adopted brother, Dixon. Having moved from Kansas with her family, Annie struggled to fit in at first and spent much of the season trying to be accepted by the other girls. Eventually, Annie scored the token hot boy — Ethan, former boyfriend of the ‘bad girl’, Naomi.
Played By: Shenae Grimes
Diva: Courtney Taylor
Why?: Annie is an awkward, ‘homely’ girl who struggles between her Kansas roots and big city lights of Beverly Hills. Courtney, as a new girl herself, has a similar ‘girl next door’ homely look that could fit the awkwardness of Grimes’ Annie. She looks like a nice girl but also could pass as one of the popular girls.
Alternatives: Maria and Tiffany.

Character: Naomi Clark is Beverly Hills High’s resident bad girl. The most popular girl in school, can get any guy she wants — but beneath that cool exterior, homegirl has insecurity issues… not to mention daddy issues!
Played By: AnnaLynne McCord
Diva: Maryse
Why?: Could there really be any other Diva to play Naomi? Maryse has the narcissistic tendencies it takes to play the head bitch.
Alternatives: Angelina Love.

Character: Silver is the beautiful girl that doesn’t know it. She marches to the beat of her own drum, is quick to stand up for her rights and is the perfect student. Careful though, scratch the surface and you may find that Silver has issues of her own — she’s a tad bipolar.
Played By: Jessica Stroup
Diva: Christy Hemme
Why?: Like Silver, Christy has long been accused of being bipolar. Always running on some sort of weird energy, Christy most definitely marches to the beat of her own drum and is quirky in a way similar to Silver.
Alternatives: Mickie James.

Character: Adrianna Tate-Duncan is the rich popular girl with a drug problem. Tragic, right? A wannabe actress, Adrianna started showing a nicer side to herself when people got to know her and before long she became the ‘statistic’. That girl in high school who gets pregnant by the douchebag jock!
Played By: Jessica Lowndes
Diva: Madison Rayne
Why?: Madison is the perfect example of a fresh faced girl who gets in with the wrong crowd and ends up doing the wrong thing. Inside, we know that she is a sweet, nice girl but the pressures of conforming to her social status are much too much. Let’s hope Madison doesn’t end up knocked up, trailer park style!
Alternatives: –

And now, vote for the 90210 casting you most agree with!

[poll id="415"]

Melrose after the cut:

Bowing for the first time tonight is the revival of the 90s classic, Melrose Place and with a host of new inhabitants 90210‘s older sister brings girls more age appropriate to our Divas! With the show just beginning tonight, not much is known about the characters but let’s try and cast it anyway…

Character: Ella Simms is an ‘up-and-coming publicist who strives to reach the top at any cost’ says the character breakdown. Ella has a ‘tongue as sharp as her stilettos’.
Played By: Katie Cassidy
Diva: Melina
Why?: Melina may seem like sweetness and light, but don’t let her smile fool you — she has her eyes firmly on the prize that is the Women’s Championship, at all times. She strives to the best in her field and would stop at nothing to prove that she is the most dominant and talented Diva in the WWE. But she still has that warm exterior that makes her leading role material, like Ella.
Alternatives: Michelle McCool or Trish Stratus.

Character: Lauren Yung is the ‘straight arrow med student forced by hard times to exchange sexual favors for financial ones’. Sounds saucy!
Played By: Stephanie Jacobsen
Diva: Jillian
Why?: Like Lauren, Jillian must do what she can [i.e. degrade herself] to make ends meet. A girl’s gotta eat, you know?
Alternatives: The Bella Twins or Rosa Mendes.

Character: Riley Richmond is a ‘sickly sweet school teacher’ that’s engaged to one of the other Melrose inhabitants. We get the feeling she’s the ‘homely’ type that is extremely compassionate & loves her man… an all around good girl!
Played By: Jessica Lucas
Diva: Gail Kim
Why?: Gail Kim gives off vibes of being a sweet, respectable girl that you could take home to mom. Perhaps in another life she would be a school teacher? She loves to cook and seems like the perfect home-maker should she find that lucky guy!
Alternatives: Maria or Mickie James.

Character: Violet Foster is a ‘seemingly naive young woman who has a dark side’. She’s from a small town but don’t let that fool you, she can play the ‘sex kitten’ to have things go her way.
Played By: Ashlee Simpson-Wentz
Diva: Velvet Sky
Why?: Velvet may seem like a country bumpkin, but you know homegirl would flash the football team when daddy wasn’t looking. Minus all the trashy outfits, Velvet could look like the girl next door but as we all know, she’s got a kinkier side.
Alternatives: Candice Michelle or Maria.

We’re resurrecting an old beloved feature: Screen Sirens!

Mad Men, the show that has been dubbed the “most critically acclaimed series on television” is now in its third week, so I’m a little late to usher in the new season with this post. But hey, better late than never, right? For those of you unaware of the show’s premise, here’s a quick plot synopsis:

A drama about one of New York’s most prestigious ad agencies at the beginning of the 1960s, focusing on one of the firm’s most mysterious but extremely talented ad executives, Donald Draper.

Long story short, it’s a 60s-based show that revolves around ad men and their world. It features fabulous fashion and even more fabulous women. From sexy secretaries to classy wives and powerful career women, there’s not a sector of the female population that the show doesn’t touch on. Is it a wonder, then, that the show is written and directed largely by women? I think not.. (Click here for more on the show.)

We’ll be focusing on the show’s main three women: Betty Draper, Joan Holloway, and Peggy Olsen. Let’s take a look at which Divas or Knockouts would best fit these roles:

Character: Betty Draper, housewife and significant other of Don Draper, the show’s main character. She’s often depicted as unsatisfied, unhappy, and trapped into a homebound life by her unfaithful husband. At times, she sticks up for herself and puts Don in his place, but an unexpected pregnancy put a hold on whatever liberation she had planned.

Trademark: Platinum blonde hair, glamorous Jackie O-esque style, perma-frown
Played By: January Jones
Signature Quote: “[My mother] wanted me to be beautiful so I could find a man. There’s nothing wrong with that. But then what? Just sit and smoke and let it go ‘til you’re in a box?”
Diva: Maria
Why?: What Diva is more unlucky-in-love than Maria? She’s been taken advantage of more than most Divas, and seems destined to have a man like Don for a husband, always fooling around behind her back. Now, I’m not equating Dolph Ziggler with Don–the two couldn’t be less alike–but you can’t deny that her relationship with the platinum blonde kind of mirrors Betty’s with Don. Here’s hoping Maria doesn’t end up with an inconvenient pregnancy.
Alternatives: Angelina Love, Kelly Kelly, or Tiffany.

Click to see our castings for the other two characters..

Character: Joan Holloway, office manager at Sterling Cooper. She heads the secretarial pool, and exudes a sense of confidence and collectedness that puts her above the other women in the office. Always turning heads, she uses her eye-catching curves to her advantage, but does not put herself out like some decidedly “looser” women. Her long-term affair with Roger Sterling, part head of the company, was cut short when he suffered a heart attack. She is now engaged to a doctor who has shown a domineering tendency that in a way neuters Joan’s sense of independence and self-confidence. She, truly, is the definition of “fierce”, no matter how overused that term is.

Trademark: Firey red hair always neatly piled on the top of her head, jaw-dropping curves, ever-present gold necklace
Played By: Christina Hendricks
Signature Quote: “Sometimes when people get what they want they realize how limited their goals were.”
Diva: Natalya
Why?: Women in wrestling are never short of a few curves, but few are built like Natalya. She’s got a figure that commands attention, and when you see her in photoshoots wearing decidedly sexier clothing, you can see it. In the ring, you probably wouldn’t think of her as a sexpot like Joan, but don’t judge a book by its cover–her photoshoots tell me that she’s got a sass like Joan and would have no trouble being the HBIC that Mad Men’s signature redhead is known to be.
Alternatives: Beth Phoenix, Maryse, or Traci Brooks.
• Click here for more on Joan.

Character: Peggy Olsen, mousy, determined, and naive secretary-turned-copywriter. She is one of the show’s biggest success stories, having come into Sterling Cooper as a lowly secretary, using key moments of brilliance to propel her into a seat of power in the company, finding herself completely in the company of men not conditioned to be working side-by-side with a woman. She often sacrifices her personal life in order to improve her work, constantly coming up with winning ideas for big accounts. She is arguably better suited for her place than some of the more conventionally educated men. A hidden scandal darkens her life, though– she gave birth to coworker’s secret lovechild and gave it up in order to save face and keep her professional and personal lives in order.

Trademark: Bookish choppy bangs, conservative attire, naive and innocent demeanor
Played By: Elisabeth Moss
Signature Quote: (to a man hitting on her) “Eugene, I’m in the persuasion business, and frankly I’m disappointed by your presentation.”
Diva: Mickie James
Why?: It’s tough to picture a bookish Diva, but Mickie kind of exudes an attitude that could be translated into a sense of innocence. Clearly, she’s not an innocent little girl, but neither is Peggy. She just has a professional mindset and steers clear of the frivolity of her coworkers. Similarly, Mickie isn’t really in line with the more T&A-focused Divas, and seems a bit above it all when she takes part in silly gimmick matches. She just has a look that could easily translate to that of a naive, well-meaning girl. I could easily picture Mickie in the buttoned-up attire, intent on seeing that her vision is seen and appreciated, all while the men around her stare at the skirts and the women blush and giggle.
Alternatives: Taylor Wilde, Michelle McCool, or Eve Torres
• Click here for more on Peggy.

We’re resurrecting an old beloved feature: Screen Sirens!

This edition conveniently coincides with the week of Comic-Con, the massive convention that brings together fans of genre television, movies, and literature. It has become the place to be for casts and crews of major movies and television shows to build hype for their upcoming projects and reveal exclusive clips and news to fans from around the world. It’s no longer merely a haven for so-called “geeks” – it’s become a pop culture phenomenon. Click here to learn more about Comic-Con.

To celebrate this weekend’s event, I’ve decided to take some of the more popular and interesting women from comic book history and profile them, assigning one Knockout or Diva to each. I’ll give my reasoning, and provide a poll at the end for you to vote for your favorite. This will take place in two parts, as it’s a pretty massive list. Now that we’ve completed part one, we’ve made it to part two. Got it ? Good. All that’s left is to open your minds and use your imagination. Let’s begin!

Character: Mary Jane Watson, former wife of Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man. She is considered by many to be Parker’s “true love”, and is one of the most recognizable of all the superhero “significant others”. She’s more casually known as MJ, and coined the phrase “Go get ‘em, tiger” which has become her catch phrase and a pop culture star all in itself.
Trademark: Fiery red hair, feisty attitude, partial to the word “tiger”
Played Previously By: Kirsten Dunst in 2002′s Spider-Man, 2004′s Spider-Man 2, 2007′s Spider-Man 3, and 2011′s Spider-Man 4.
Diva: Mickie James
Why?: Mickie could be described as “happy go lucky” in most situations, and Mary Jane’s spunky personality certainly lends to a happy disposition more often than not. Even though she’s portrayed in the movies as more level-headed, Kirsten’s MJ has still got a bit of spark to her. Arguably, Mickie’s got more spark than any Diva, and if anyone could capture MJ’s spirit, it’d be her. The similar “MJ” initials are a funny coincidence, but it’s not why I chose her – she’s easily the WWE’s most peppy Diva (dressing in bright colors, hopping to the ring), and if you want to be Spidey’s love, you’ve got to be able to keep up with his wisecracking. Oh, and the ability to hang on as he swings from building to building does hurt either, and let’s just say Mickie’s got experience flying around in the air.
Alternatives: Christy Hemme, Trish Stratus, or Taylor Wilde.

Character: Betty Ross, a research scientist and girlfriend of Dr. Bruce Banner, AKA the incredible Hulk. She is the daughter of General Ross, the short-tempered pursuer of Banner who is constantly seeking to leech the Hulk’s power for his own use. Betty is the only one who can reason with the Hulk, connecting to Bruce inside of the beast. She is usually calm and collected, in sharp contrast to the rage-fueled Hulk. Intelligent, kind, and matter-of-fact, Betty is the only person in Bruce’s life that he can trust and count on.
Trademark: Dark hair, extensive medical knowledge, calming presence
Played Previously By: Jennifer Connelly in 2003′s Hulk and 2008′s The Incredible Hulk.
Diva: Molly Holly
Why?: Molly’s arguably one of wrestling’s most understated and “formal” Divas, never getting far into the T&A side of the business, and becoming a big participator in charities and fundraisers. Many have said that she’s too “nice” for wrestling, and if Betty Ross is anything, she’s a contrast to her environment. Her father is a tyrant, she’s caught up in military conspiracy, and her boyfriend’s alter ego is an terrifyingly unrestrained gamma-irradiated monster that could level an entire city in a matter of minutes. As a babyface, Molly was the epitome of sweet and innocent, almost to the point of appearing to be a “country bumpkin”. Even as a heel, Molly had a sense of purpose to her – she was adamantly against the objectification of women in the WWE, and spoke out regularly against the likes of Trish Stratus and Torrie Wilson playing to the crowd using their good looks. With that, she had a deep sense of morality to her, even as a lying, cheating heel. She wasn’t shallow, as many heels tend to be. With that unique quality of innocence, Molly mirrors Betty – both women show that not everyone is a product of their environment.
Alternatives: Tori (she tamed the monster Kane, after all), Lilian Garcia (Viscera, anyone?), or Melina.

Character: Sif, Asgardian warrior and lover of thunder god Thor. She is unshakably faithful to Thor, even when he was banished to Earth. She is considered to be the greatest female warrior in Asgard, outclassing many men as well.
Trademark: Dark hair (naturally blonde, but enchanted and turned dark by a jealous Loki), extremely tall and well built, highly skilled warrior
Played Previously By: No one yet, but it has been rumored that Jessica Biel will play her in 2011′s Thor.
Diva: Natalya
Why?: Who’s more ferocious than Natalya? She’s always screaming, laughing manically, or tossing her opponents around like rag dolls. She certainly has the heart of a warrior, even if she’s nowhere near tall enough to be an Asgardian (Hollywood magic could fix that). She has looks that mirror Sif’s – intense eyes, muscle-bound body, confident stance – and is the WWE’s most explosive Diva by a longshot. If I had to choose a Diva to lead me into battle, I’d choose Natalya in a heartbeat.
Alternatives: Chyna, Beth Phoenix, or Victoria.

Character: She-Hulk, AKA Jennifer Walters, defense lawyer and cousin of Bruce Banner, AKA the Hulk. After Jennifer finds herself in a life-threatening situation, Banner uses some of his blood for a blood transfusion, and thus creates She-Hulk. She took on a decidedly Amazonian appearance, and her mutated form was originally explained as being molded by her subconscious desire to look like the ideal woman. At first, anger would trigger her transformation into her green alter ago, but she eventually gained control of it, and was even healed of her blood disorder. Later, she decided to stay permanently in her She-Hulk form, preferring the freedom, confidence, and assertiveness that it gave her compared to her more fragile “normal” form.
Trademark: Amazonian frame, green skin, wears various types of purple attire
Played Previously By: No one yet, but during the planning stages for a She-Hulk movie that was eventually scrapped,Brigitte Nielsen posed for promo pictures as She-Hulk and Jennifer Walters in the studio’s attempt to attract interest to making the movie.
Diva: ODB
Why?: She’s no Amazon, but ODB has all the attitude and guts to play someone as eye-catching as She-Hulk. It takes a certain level of gusto to play a 7 foot tall green-skinned woman, and a woman famed for taking swigs from a flask on the way to the ring is certainly not shy. For a role as over-the-top as She-Hulk, ODB would undoubtedly fit the bill – she’s loud, confident, and can definitely kick ass. Playing frail Jennifer Walters would be a bit of a stretch, but paint her green, Lou Ferrigno style, and you’re on your way.
Alternatives: Chyna, Natalya, or Melina.

Character: Storm, the reigning queen of Wakanda and major teammate of the X-Men. Storm possesses the psionic ability to control all forms of weather over vast areas. She can control the temperature of the environment, control all forms of precipitation, humidity and moisture, generate lightning and other electromagnetic atmospheric phenomena. She can incite all forms of meteorological tempests, such as tornadoes, thunderstorms, blizzards, and is capable of summoning a hurricane, as well as mist. She can dissipate such weather to form clear skies as well.
Trademark: White hair, Kenyan accent, power over all forms of weather
Played Previously By: Halle Berry in 2000′s X-Men, 2003′s X2, and 2006′s X3: The Last Stand.
Diva: Sharmell
Why?: Who better to play a queen than a queen herself? Sharmell was all too happy to don a crown and evening gown to accompany Booker T during his “King Booker” phase, exhibiting a regal appearance and demeanor that was pretty convincing, even for a heel gimmick. Storm’s power of weather control rests highly on eye expression (her eye turn solid white when utilizing her powers), and Sharmell undoubtedly has an intimidating glare that could summon storm clouds and foster tornadoes. Although not a regular wrestler, Sharmell exhibited a fighting spirit, going after people at ringside and needing to be literally torn away from her unlucky foe.
Alternatives: Alicia Fox, Sojourner Bolt, or Layla.

Character: Pepper Potts, personal assistant to Tony Stark, AKA Iron Man. She pretty much runs Stark Industries, the world’s largest manufacturer of military-grade weapons. Her duties largely include scheduling Stark’s duties and getting him to meetings in one piece, despite his ever-procrastinating style. In more recent comic books, she has become a superhero herself after surviving an accident. She needed an arc reactor placed into her chest, much like Stark’s, and adopted an iron suit, the Mark 1616, designed for “heavy rescue and recovery.”
Trademark: Red hair, designer professional attire, immaculately organized and prepared
Played Previously By: Gwyneth Paltrow in 2008′s Iron Man and 2010′s Iron Man 2.
Diva: Stacy Keibler
Why?: Despite being largely what you’d call a “T&A Diva”, Stacy always has a certain poise about her. She’d rarely lose her cool, and knew just how to use a man to her advantage – having ridiculously long legs didn’t hurt, I’d think. She was mostly a manager, helping the likes of The Dudley Boyz, Test, and Scott Steiner. Doing that, she displayed management skills that Pepper herself uses, whether it be in saving Tony’s life (like at the end of Iron Man) or finally getting him to a meeting he’s 3 hour late for. And, let us not forget Miss Hancock, which was largely a caricature of a personal assistant. Stacy pranced around in a skirt and heels, wearing glasses she clearly didn’t need. Even though this was a pretty goofy gimmick, she mirrored Pepper’s style, if in a more risque way. The ever-present clipboard looks like something that would be glued to Pepper’s forearm, that’s for sure. Stacy exhibited a strange quality that despite all the shenanigans she took part in in WCW and the WWE, she managed to maintain a sense of collectedness, not relegating herself to the ranks of dumb blondes and bimbo Divas.
Alternatives: Trish Stratus, Tiffany, or Michelle McCool.

Character: Harley Quinn, obsessive would-be girlfriend of the Joker and accomplice of Poison Ivy. She was an Arkham Asylum psychiatrist who falls in love with the Joker and becomes his accomplice, losing her mind in the process. Her origin stemmed from a character created for a televised Batman cartoon, and proved to be so popular that they wrote her into the comic book continuity.
Trademark: Traditional harlequin jester garb, manic personality, high-pitched voice
Played Previously By: No one yet, but there is an ever-present fanboy movement for Kristen Bell to play her in a future Batman movie.
Diva: Taylor Wilde
Why?: Taylor’s got a bit of spunk to her, and it doesn’t hurt that she reminds me a bit of Kristen Bell, the fanboy golden girl when it comes to Harley Quinn casting suggestions. Taylor’s short and tiny, like Quinn, and it’s almost too easy to picture her in the white and black face paint and the harlequin costume. The high, squeaky voice would probably take some work, but who is born with that type of voice? Whoever they are, I don’t envy them. Also, I can easily picture Taylor as a respected psychiatrist (she has a sense of gravitas to her), which Harley is before she treats the Joker and subsequently loses her mind in obsession for him.
Alternatives: Jillian, Mickie James, Velvet Sky.

Character: Sue Storm, AKA the Invisible Woman, member of the Fantastic Four, wife of Reed Richards, and sister of Johnny Storm. She has the ability to turn invisible at will, as well as mentally generate and project force fields of tremendous strength, which she manipulates for a variety of effects. The fields are able to repel solid objects, even those of great mass and momentum, and can repel all but the very strongest energy attacks. She is also a loyal mother to two children, Franklin and Val.
Trademark: Blonde hair, blue “Fantastic Four” suit, power of invisibility
Played Previously By: Jessica Alba in 2005′s Fantastic Four and 2007′s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
Diva: Torrie Wilson
Why?: For someone as family-oriented as Sue, a Diva must be proven to be a loyal friend and confident. Torrie has seen her share of bust-ups, but she has rarely been the one to initiate it. Her “Vince’s Devil” teammates turned on her, leaving her in the dust, and her father Al Wilson turned his back on her in favor of Dawn Marie. She has been burned plenty of times, but has never been outright malicious, adopting a sweet persona. She’s always been a fan favorite, winning countless bikini contests and other forms of popularity contests. As for Sue’s motherly affections, Torrie hasn’t had the chance to enact those yet, but her ever-present smile and bouncy personality make it clear that she has to potential to be a terrific mother. Sue’s powers at times seem pretty passive, not requiring much hand-to-hand combat, but Torrie was never a full-blown competitor in the ring, whether that be to her wishes or not. Torrie’s regrettable lack of ring time mirrors Sue’s overshadowing by her more powerful teammates. Still, with all that, both women show that in times of pressure, they can pull out some truly stunning moves and get the job done like no one else.
Alternatives: Trish Stratus (remember those casting rumors?), Kelly Kelly, or Stacy Keibler.

Character: Lois Lane, wife of Clark Kent, AKA Superman, and a tough-as-nails journalist. She has a quick wit, and is considered to be an intellectual equal to Superman. She has almost always been portrayed as a determined, strong-willed person, being viewed by many as being the archetypal superhero love interest.
Trademark: Dark hair, quick wit, superior investigative journalism skills
Played Previously By: Margot Kidder in 1978′s Superman, 1980′s Superman II, 1983′s Superman III and 1987′s Superman IV: The Quest for Peace She was also played by Terri Hatcher in the 1990s television series Lois and Clark, Kate Bosworth in 2006′s Superman Returns, and by Erica Durance in the 2000s television series Smallville.
Diva: Trish Stratus
Why?: Whether a heel or a babyface, Trish has always demenstrated a witty personality. She’s outsmarted foes and spat insults on the microphone, comparative to Lois’s trademark wit. Her determination and drive in the ring is similar to Lois when chasing a lead or competing for a story – no one can get in her way. Both women are funny and beautiful – a combination that makes them two of the most highly desired women in their respective fields – wrestling and comic books. It takes a lot of smarts to be an intellectual equal to Superman, but Trish certainly packs enough mental heat to make it an even match. and hey, she’s a brunette now! That makes the comparison even easier to visualize.
Alternatives: Ivory, Stacy Keibler, or Melina.

Character: Wonder Woman, Amazonian woman and arguably the most famous female superhero of all time. Her powers include super strength, super speed and stamina, and flight. She is highly proficient in hand-to-hand combat and in the art of tactical warfare. She also possesses an animal-like cunning and a natural rapport with animals, which has in the past been presented as an actual ability to communicate with the animal kingdom. She also makes use of her Lasso of Truth (which forces those bound by it to tell the truth), a pair of indestructible bracelets, and an invisible plane.
Trademark: Long jet black hair, red/yellow/blue attire, unmatched poise
Played Previously By: Lynda Carter in the 1970s Wonder Woman television series.
Diva: Victoria
Why?: Her height, strength, and dark hair certainly call to mind the look of Wonder Woman, and Victoria’s poise (when not her psycho persona) easily reflects the regal hero. Wonder Woman is seen by many to be pretty campy (hence the ever-stalled movie adaptation), but Victoria is pretty goofy, and isn’t afraid to go all-out in the name of a character (pulling out hair, licking faces, dancing her way to the ring, befriending a tarantula), and there’s no doubt in my mind that she could pull off such crazy character aspects as the Lasso of Truth, the spinning teleportation, and the invisible plane. She slightly resembles Lynda Carter too, even if that corset would never fit a woman as muscle-bound as Victoria. But hey, Victoria’s more of an Amazon than Lynda could ever be!
Alternatives: Beth Phoenix, Trish Stratus (Halloween costume, anyone?), or Chyna.

We’re resurrecting an old beloved feature: Screen Sirens!

This, of course, is part one. Got it ? Good. All that’s left is to open your minds and use your imagination. Let’s begin!

Character: Catwoman, AKA Selina Kyle, a supervillian of Batman who is often portrayed as an antihero. She is a whip-carrying burglar with a taste for high-stake thefts and dresses in a costume resembling a cat. She is one of the most famous supervillians in comic book history.
Trademark: Dark mask and catsuit, whip, catlike agility.
Played Previously By: Michelle Pfeiffer in 1992′s Batman Returns and Halle Berry in 2005′s Catwoman.
Diva: Melina
Why?: Melina’s always been agile, moving and posing gracefully and showboating in a manner that calls to mind the slinky movements of Catwoman. As a heel, the fans love to hate her, much like Catwoman’s antihero status. Melina’s move-set is calculated and sleek, using fast-paced moves and deadly submissions to defeat her opponents – one could say she has the grace and cunning of a feline. She had wit and out schemed the competition while managing MNM, stealing wins for her team much like Selina would steal precious jewels and other expensive goods. Melina would fool men and women alike, outsmarting people to meet her own goals. To Melina, championship gold might as well be a precious diamond in the grasp of Batman’s feared cat burglar.
Alternatives: Sable, Candice Michelle, Maryse.

Character: Jean Grey, AKA the Phoenix, an X-Men member and mutant born with telepathic and telekinetic powers. She is a caring, nurturing figure, but she also must deal with being an Omega-level mutant and the physical manifestation of the cosmic Phoenix Force, which grants her god-like powers. As the Phoenix, she has seemingly limitless powers, having complete control over matter, energy, thought, and unlimited psionic energies. As Jean Grey, she has one of the world’s most powerful telepathic minds.
Trademark: Fire-red hair, telepathic mind, massively powerful demeanor.
Played Previously By: Famke Janssen in 2000′s X-Men, 2003′s X2, and 2006′s X3: The Last Stand
Diva: Beth Phoenix
Why?: Well, her name for one. You think it’s a coincidence that Beth chose to name herself Phoenix? The power and might that the name instills has a lot to do with the character of Jean Grey, and there’s little chance that Beth didn’t intend to connect herself with the X-Men character in naming herself. Beth is undoubtedly the WWE’s most powerful Diva, as Jean is the most powerful mutant. Both are intimidating, strong, and beautiful – a deadly combination. At their best, they can charm and allure you. At their worst, well, let’s just say no one’s going home in one piece.
Alternatives: Natalya, Katie Lea, or Victoria.

Character: Elektra, ninja assassin and mercenary who is a major love interest of Daredevil. She has a very violent nature and wields two bladed sai as her trademark weapons.
Trademark: Violent temper, highly skilled at martial arts and weaponry, extremely agile and self-disciplined.
Played Previously By: Daredevil (Ben Affleck)’s real-life wife Jennifer Garner in 2003′s Daredevil and 2005′s Elektra.
Diva: Katie Lea Burchill
Why?: Katie Lea always seems to have some darker side to her – her eyes look sinister, and even though she may not have the skills of an assassin, she’s intimidating enough on her own. Elektra has a dark past, and has been resurrected from the dead numerous times. Katie Lea, with her spooky looks and attitude, seems otherworldly at times. Her demeanor is cool and composed, which Elektra can be when not on the attack. Elektra has no problem killing people, and does her job as an assassin often without remorse. Katie Lea has always been a heel, and seems to have no problem playing the bad girl. Neither need sympathy or adoration to do their jobs. And ever heard the phrase “if looks could kill?” Yeah.. if that were true, Katie Lea would be a full-on assassin.
Alternatives: Melina, Gail Kim, or Lita.

Character: Rogue, a member of the mutant supergroup X-Men. She’s the group’s self-described southern belle, possessing powers that are more like a curse. She involuntarily absorbs the memories, physical strength, and (in the case of superpowered persons) the abilities of anyone she touches.
Trademark: White streak of hair, thick southern accent, unwanted mutant powers.
Played Previously By: Anna Paquin in 2000′s X-Men, 2003′s X2, and 2006′s X3: The Last Stand
Diva: Angelina Love
Why?: Angelina’s not known as a move-stealer (though, don’t the Beautiful People remind you a bit of Vince’s Devils?), but she doesn’t have the cleanest reputation. She plays dirty, and does whatever it takes for her, Velvet, or Madison to get the win. She’s one of TNA’s top heel Knockouts, like Rogue, who started out as a baddie in the comics. But with rumors of a Beautiful People bust-up on the horizon, Angelina may very well turn babyface, going from bad to good much like Rogue did herself. She’s got the take-charge, kind of bitchy attitude that Rogue tends to be known for, and as much as she struts around in skimpy clothing, she’s hardly just a pretty face. Angelina hails from Canada, so a southern accent isn’t going to come naturally from her. Still, you can’t do much worse than Anna Paquin’s faux drawl.
Alternatives: Michelle McCool, Lita, or Christy Hemme.

Character: Typhoid Mary, an enemy and former lover of Daredevil with low level psionic powers, including telekinesis and pyrokinesis. She has been a professional criminal employed by organized crime syndicates as an assassin in the past. She is also truly and gravely mentally ill, suffering from dissociative identity disorder, Mary Walker has three other abnormal personalities in addition to her seemingly healthy one. Her “Mary” personality is a timid, quiet, pacifist; her “Typhoid” personality is adventurous, lustful, and violent; and her “Bloody Mary” persona is brutal, sadistic, and hates all men.
Trademark: Multiple personality disorder, gothic appearance, distrusting attitude.
Played Previously By: Natassia Malthe in 2005′s Elektra, though the character bears little resemblance to the Typhoid Mary of the comics.
Diva: Daffney
Why?: Daffney’s always had a “gothic” persona – dark hair, pale skin, bad attitude. At times, she’s been described as “crazy”, her trademark scream hardly helping convince people of her mental stability. In WCW, she constantly changed her hair color, which I suppose could be construed as having multiple personalities, akin to Typhoid Mary’s most recognizable trait. Daffney may not be known as a “man-hater”, as Mary is, but her bust-up with David Flair undoubtedly left a foul taste in her mouth when it came to the male population. Typhoid Mary is unnervingly resilient, and if Daffney surviving two consecutive thumbtack matches doesn’t qualify her as tough, I don’t know what does.
Alternatives: MsChif (of SHIMMER fame), Victoria, or Mickie James (remember crazy Mickie?).

Character: Poison Ivy, a Batman villain and one of the world’s most prominent eco-terrorists. She is obsessed with plants, botany, and environmentalism. She uses toxins from plants and her own bloodstream for her criminal activities, which are usually aimed at protecting the natural environment.
Trademark: Wild red hair, plant-themed attire, accomplished botanist.
Played Previously By: Uma Thurman in 1997′s Batman and Robin.
Diva: Maria
Why?: I can’t shake the resemblance I see between Maria and the comic book illustration above. It’s uncanny, no? Aside from that, Maria has always been a bit different than her fellow Divas, dressing in her own way and in general doing her own thing. Ivy, like her, is decidedly different in her obsession with botany and using extreme methods to protect the environment. I can easily picture Maria slinking around in leaves fashioned into a bodice (have you seen her ring attire lately?) and spouting cheesy one-liners in the fashion of Uma Thurman’s take on the character. Though that may not be the way to go (that movie is hated by pretty much everyone), Maria can still take the sexiness from that movie, the smarts from the comic book and make the character come to life without damaging George Clooney’s career in the process.
Alternatives: Christy Hemme, Katie Lea, or Daffney.

Character: Wasp, AKA Janet Pym, superhero member of the Avengers. She coined the team’s name herself, and was the first female member of the group. She was married to Dr. Hank Pym, AKA Ant-Man, and has the ability to shrink to microscopic size at will, as well as fly and fire energy blasts.
Trademark: Ability to shrink to the height of a few centimeters, resourceful, craves action.
Played Previously By: No one yet, but it has been rumored that Eva Longoria is in talks to play the character in 2012′s The Avengers.
Diva: Gail Kim
Why?: What Diva is quicker on her feet than Gail? She’s a tiny girl (not microscopic, but it’s a start) and can wrestle circles around many of the men. Clearly, she can hang with the boys, and with her fast-paced wrestling style, few can keep up with her. She flies around the ring as if she has wings – coincidence, then, that she’s fit to play the Wasp?
Alternatives: Taylor Wilde, Lita, or Melina.

Character: Gwen Stacy, the first love of Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man. She was his college sweetheart up until her tragic death that Spider-Man himself inadvertently caused.
Trademark: Platinum blonde hair, sweet disposition, ever-present black headband.
Played Previously By: Bryce Dallas Howard in 2007′s Spider-Man 3.
Diva: Kelly Kelly
Why?: Kelly may not be as conservative or innocent as Gwen, but she’s always been a babyface, and the fans have never known her as anything but a good girl. She’s always smiling, is friendly, and doesn’t play dirty. In the comics, Gwen is decidedly more serious and grounded compared to the wild child Mary Jane, but in the WWE it’s tough for a babyface to be that, what with all the prancing around in bikinis and doing T&A matches. Still, as far as Divas go, Kelly is about as sweet and loveable as you can get. A bit naive? Maybe, but that just makes her an even better fit for do-gooder Gwen.
Alternatives: Stacy Keibler, Tiffany, or Molly Holly.

Character: Black Widow, AKA Natasha Romanoff, a Russian super-spy who works as a double-agent and is highly skilled in combat and firearms. She often seduces male heroes in order to complete her objective or meet her own ends.
Trademark: Thick Russian accent, red hair, svelte figure often clothed in catsuits.
Played Previously By: Scarlett Johansson in 2010′s Iron Man 2.
Diva: Maryse
Why?: I’m not saying French and Russian accents are one in the same, but trading one thick European accent for another isn’t too big of a leap, is it? Maryse is one of the WWE’s most confidently sexy Divas, always seeming “above it all” and in control. The way she treats Miz gives her shades of the “man eater” persona Widow’s adopted, and her ring skills show that she’s no slouch in defending herself. She may not be able to wield endless types of guns, but that can be learned, can’t it? I’m pretty sure Scarlett Johansson isn’t a firearm expert herself. Maryse has the looks of the old-school movie female super-spies – foreign, sexy, mysterious, slightly distrustful.. Besides, I think she could fill out the black catsuit pretty well, don’t you?
Alternatives: Trish Stratus, Candice Michelle, Eve Torres.

Character: Silk Spectre II, AKA Laurie Juspeczyk, a costumed hero that is part of the superhero team Watchmen. She is skilled at hand-to-hand combat, trained by her mother Sally Jupiter, the original Silk Spectre and member of the original superhero team, the Minutemen. She fights crime in the mid-1980s, recalling the political and social climate of the time. This all takes place in the groundbreaking graphic novel Watchmen.
Trademark: Extremely long and dark hair, black and yellow latex costume, 80′s-centric clothing and accessories
Played Previously By: Malin Akerman in 2009′s Watchmen.
Diva: Michelle McCool
Why?: Nepotism doesn’t have much to do with Michelle’s success, but people can’t seem to let go of the connection between her and the Undertaker. His influence likely helped her get were she is today, much like Laurie, who, against her wishes, was groomed into a crimefighter by her ambitious mother. She is somewhat resentful of that and the monitoring of her by the government as part of her association with the god-like Dr. Manhattan. Similarly, both are unfairly branded as “sluts” at times. Like Michelle, Laurie can be nice at times, and others, not so much. When someone gets in her way, she can be bitchy and ruthless, much like we’ve seen Michelle in recent months. Michelle, like Laurie, can handle herself in a fight, though Michelle probably can’t do it in sky high heels. Laurie seems a little lost, and Michelle, now without her sidekick Alicia, probably isn’t secure in what her place is either. Maybe she’ll find a clear character path, though hopefully without the apocalyptic situation that triggered Laurie’s self-realizations.
Alternatives: Layla, Alicia Fox, or Kelly Kelly.

In the interest of time and energy, I’ve covered all of tonight’s female Oscar nominees into one convenient condensed post. Check them all out below and vote for your favorite! Be sure to tune into the show tonight and see which ladies go home with the real prize. Feel free to use this as a Oscar discussion post, if you so wish!

Role: Kym, a recovering drug addict and volatile sister in “Rachel Getting Married”. She is played by Anne Hathaway.
And the role goes to…: Katie Lea
Why?: Katie Lea is eccentric and, much like Kym, she is tough to telegraph. Affecting an American accent would be her one major hurdle to jump.

• • • • •

Role: Christine Collins, the distraught mother of a missing child in “Changeling”. She is played by Angelina Jolie.
And the role goes to…: Candice Michelle
Why?: It may be an unexpected choice, but who would have thought former wild child Angelina could have come this far, acting-wise? The same could be expected out of Candice. Besides, I could definitely see Candice pulling off the ’20s look.

• • • • •

Role: Ray Eddy, a single mother driven to border smuggling across the frozen water of the St. Lawrence River to make ends meet in “Frozen River”. She is played by Melissa Leo.
And the role goes to…: ODB
Why?: I think the only Diva/Knockout that could pull off playing an older woman is ODB, as her rugged look and attitude could transfer effectively to the aged, stripped-down single mother role.

• • • • •

Role: Sister Aloysius Beauvier, a fear-inducing and iron-gloved Principal who has suspicion towards Father Flynn over possible lewd conduct in “Doubt”. She is played by Meryl Streep.
And the role goes to…: Molly Holly
Why?: She’s the most straight-laced and serious Diva wrestling’s seen, and those qualities define Sister Beauvier. She needs to instill fear and respect, all while barely ever cracking a smile.

• • • • •

Role: Hanna Schmitz, a seductive older woman harboring a dark secret “The Reader”. She is played by Kate Winslet.
And the role goes to…: Sunny
Why?: She’s got that quality of older woman seduction that’s not over-the-top. The German accent could be tricky, though..

• • • • •

Role: Sister James, an innocent Sister who wants to strives to see the best in everyone in “Doubt”. She is played by Amy Adams.
And the role goes to…: Mickie James
Why?: Mickie’s got that innocent quality that few Divas have. She’s constantly smiling, and the fans are always on her side. This ever-sweet attitude is one that matches Sister James’s often naive outlook.

• • • • •

Role: María Elena, a fiery artist who is at times unstable and irresistible in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”. She is played by Penélope Cruz.
And the role goes to…: Melina
Why?: Melina’s got that fiery attitude, and like María, she can conceivably switch emotions at the drop of a hat. Melina playing such an out-of-control character is believable – I mean, have you seen her manage MNM?

• • • • •

Role: Mrs. Miller, a frightening and concerned mother who is faced with a unbelievably though decision in “Doubt”. She is played by Viola Davis.
And the role goes to…: Sharmell
Why?: The conflicted concern that Mrs. Miller shows for her son is tough to achieve, but with the range of emotions Sharmell goes through during your average Booker T match, it’s conceivable to see Sharmell in her place. Being a black woman in those times was difficult, even more so with a son who was picked on and isolated in school. Sharmell, being one of few black women in the wrestling industry, can probably relate, in some form or fashion.

• • • • •

Role: Queenie, an adoptive mother of a strange man-child that is aging backwards in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”. She is played by Taraji P. Henson.
And the role goes to…: Jacqueline
Why?: Her thick southern drawl is the clincher – Queenie lives in New Orleans, and this old fashioned charm is essential in shaping this loving and maternal character. Jacqueline’s certainly got that southern charm in spades.

• • • • •

Role: Cassidy, a single mother and stripper who befriends the washed up wrestler in “The Wrestler”. She is played by Marisa Tomei.
And the role goes to…: Dawn Marie
Why?: Dawn Marie’s role in the early days of ECW mirrors the small-time world of wrestling that this film inhabits. She’s an indy girl through-and-through, and you can even picture her ringside at some of the more humble events. And hell, you have to admit – she looks a lot like Marisa Tomei.

If you remember all the way back to last summer, we used a feature known as Screen Sirens to compare the lovely women of wrestling to certain female characters in film. Back then, we covered movies like Iron Man, Indiana Jones, The Incredible Hulk, and The Dark Knight. This time around, we’re taking advantage of Oscar season being in full swing, examining different Oscar-nominated roles and seeing which (if any) Divas or Knockouts match up with these critically acclaimed characters. You’ll probably never see a Diva win an Oscar (maybe a Razzie), so this is the closest you’ll get – relish it!

Today, we’re looking at Penélope Cruz’s fiery character in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”. In a role that earned her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination, Penélope plays María Elena, an artist with a volatile temper and a colorful past. She is at times helpful and kind, and others unstable and uncontrollable. She is the ex-wife of Juan Antonio, the seductive painter that captures the attentions of two female American tourists. María is the antithesis of them, despite her claims that Juan is always looking for a duplicate of her. Their relationship, it seems, never really ended – they still love one another, but cannot coexist without clashing.

Her art shows her brilliance, but it comes at a price – with her violent mood swings, María is often drawn to extremes, whether it be in harming herself or others. This temperament brings out both the best and the worst in her, making her arguably the most captivating character in the film. You wonder if María Elena really is Juan Antonio’s soulmate and if, despite everything, she a good person underneath. It’s safe to say that there’s much more to her than the “crazy chick” stereotype.

So, which Diva/Knockout/etc. would best fit this role? The one Diva that springs to mind is Melina. While Melina is of Mexican descent and that’s clearly not the same as being Spanish, she has shown the same aptitude for fiery outbursts that María Elena launches into in the film. Just take a look at Melina’s managing experience – whenever she was at ringside for MNM, you can best she’d be screaming or getting physically involved. It’s easy to picture Melina go through the highs and lows and still pull off the seductive act that draws people to her in the first place. Her look is a lot like Penélope’s too, with her tiny frame, long dark hair, and dark eyes. Add to that the fact that Melina’s fluent in Spanish and you’re good to go!

Next up, we’re looking at Anne Hathaway’s Best Actress Oscar-nominated role in “Rachel Getting Married”. Anne plays Kym, a volatile recovering drug addict who is released from rehab to attend her sister’s wedding. Having been estranged from her family for some time, Kym’s reemergence puts tension on the entire weekend and causes old, hurt feelings to resurface.

Kym has obviously had a hectic past few years, having been in and out of rehab for the last decade. Relations with her family aren’t good, to say the least. Throughout the movie, Kym makes mistakes that hurts both herself and her loved ones, causing tension to build up until they come to a dramatic (and violent) climax. Her sarcastic humor and self-destructive behavior build a character that you simultaneously root for and against.

So, which Diva/Knockout/etc. would best fit this role? This may seem like an unlikely choice, but I like Katie Lea. She’s definitely an eccentric Diva, what with her perma-scowl, hypnotic glares, and haughty attitude. Even just on the surface, it’s easy to tell that Katie Lea’s not like the rest of the Divas, much like Kym when you get your first glimpse of her in the film. There’s an aura of eccentricity that you can’t merely fabricate. I think Katie Lea could definitely pull off the dark role, even if she might have to work on perfecting an American accent. But hey, it wouldn’t be outside the realm of possibility to set the film overseas and allow Katie Lea to be an English Kym. Though, I still would like to hear her take on an American accent – that’d be a trip.

Today we’re looking at, coincidentally, a movie tied closely to professional wrestling – “The Wrestler”. Mickey Rourke (as Randy the Ram) may be receiving the biggest buzz, but I’m choosing to focus on the role of Cassidy, played by Marisa Tomei and nominated for an Oscar in the “Best Supporting Actress” category. Cassidy is a single mother and full-time stripper, befriending the lonely and down-on-his-luck wrestler. Within the walls of the local strip club, she provides an attentive ear and a caring demeanor. Randy seems to always turn to her when he needs advice or someone to talk to – it’s clear that Cassidy is the closest thing he has to a true friend.

Now, she’s much more than your standard “hooker with a heart of gold” – she’s working to support her son and clearly cares about Randy’s well being, but she’s not going to become a doormat for him. She sticks up for herself and refuses to turn the relationship into something she deems unprofessional. She’s fallible, as everyone in the film is, but when it seems as though everyone in Randy’s life has turned him away, she’s there. As she says in the film, “I’m really here.” She’s Randy’s one connection to the world outside of wrestling, for better or for worse.

So, which Diva/Knockout/etc. would best fit this role? Well, when I watched the film, there’s one woman that Cassidy reminded me of – Dawn Marie. That’s not to say I view Dawn as a stripper, but Marisa Tomei’s uncanny resemblance to her, as well as Dawn’s association with some of the less glamorous sides of wrestling, make for some eery parallels. Melanie even suggested that the character of Cassidy could have been modeled after Dawn Marie, as Randy the Ram could have been modeled after Mick Foley. Those things said, I feel it’d be tough to find a Diva that would fit that role better than her.

With the American release of Quantum of Solace occurring tomorrow (Melanie and her European chums have had the movie for two weeks now), I’ve felt inspired to ponder which Divas could fill the shoes of the ever-fabled Bond girls. Of course, there’s more to these alluring women than sex appeal (well, most of the time, anyways..), so I’ve chosen Divas that could most effectively put their own spin on being James Bond’s right-hand woman. Really, who’s better than the femme fatales from the WWE? And with names like “Holly Goodhead” and “Pussy Galore”, you know they share a common ground on gimmicky aliases. We’ve provided existing Bond girls that are similar in style or persona to the chosen Divas, along with the highly scientific “Would Sleep With Bond” factor, rated 0-10: would they be as easily seduced as many of the Bond girls are, or do they have the moral fiber to resist? So, without further adieu, enjoy the list!

Beth Phoenix • Everyone knows the most effective Bond girls are tough as nails, and who’s tougher than Beth? Granted, she has a slightly more masculine demeanor than your usual waif-thin gun-wielding girls, but it would be a unique sight to see such a muscular woman be both sexy and able to go blow-for-blow with Bond’s enemies (or Bond himself!).
Most similar to: MayDay from A View to Kill (1985), an evil and outrageous henchwoman whom Bond chases up the Eiffel Tower, only for her to escape via skydiving. Once betrayed by her contact, she gives her life to stop the villain’s plan. She is played by Grace Jones.
“Would Sleep With Bond” Factor (0-10): 3. Santino may have charmed her, but it seems like Beth would be more business-minded than most. If Bond made a pass at her, she would probably deck him, and that would be that.

• • • • • • • •

• • • • • • • •

Brie & Nikki Bella • Two heads are better than one, they say. With two women at his side (or combatting him), Bond would have quite an interesting adventure. Maybe they could even play the old “switcheroo” to fool their foes and get the best of anyone they so choose. Brains would trump brawn, in this case.
Most similar to: Tiffany Case from Diamonds Are Forever (1971), a sly diamond smuggler who often changes her appearance to outwit others. Eventually, her occupation and trickery lands her in more trouble than she had imagined. She is played by Jill St. John.
“Would Sleep With Bond” Factor (0-10): 6. We don’t know much about the Bellas just yet, but if sister loyalty came first, as I expect, they’d stick together and likely keep Bond away as long as possible.

She’s not helpless to defend herself, of course, but if looks could kill, she’d be well equipped to deal out a few death certificates.
Most similar to: Jinx from Die Another Day (2003), a sexy, hard-nosed NSA agent whom aides Bond and vice versa throughout the film. She recreated the famed slow motion “Honey Rider” walking-out-of-the-ocean shot in an eye-catching bikini. She is played by Halle Berry.
“Would Sleep With Bond” Factor (0-10): 10. Hey, we did call her a “sexpot”..

Layla • Bond could always use a fellow Brit to tag along in his escapades. And with her sly attitude, one would never know her true intentions. She is prone to double-crossing, after all – just ask Jamie Noble..
Most similar to: Elektra King from The World is Not Enough (1999), a woman who fools Bond into thinking she is on his side (and in love with him) for much of the film, only to double-cross him coldly. Without hesitation, Bond kills her in retribution. She is played by Sophie Marceau.
“Would Sleep With Bond” Factor (0-10): 9. If she’s anything like Elektra, she’d seduce Bond in her quest to double-cross him, so even though it’d be by her doing, the deed would still be done.

Maria • Unfortunately for her, Maria may be best known for her “ditz” gimmick. Heck, whatever makes you unique! Perhaps she could use that to her advantage, playing dumb whilst double-crossing her enemies. Then again, she could be just short on brain cells. It doesn’t always have to be complicated, after all.. :P
Most similar to: Mary Goodnight from The Man With the Golden Gun (1974), Bond’s contact who, while beautiful, can be quite inept at times. She is largely a comic relief character, which in a sense sets her apart from the others. She is played by Britt Ekland.
“Would Sleep With Bond” Factor (0-10): 8. Her character wouldn’t be the brightest Crayon in the box, so she probably wouldn’t have much in the way of artful resistance..

Maryse • Try and tell me you hear Maryse’s sultry French accent you don’t think of one of those exotic women Bond encounters in his journeys spanning the globe. Perhaps 007 could take a trip to France and come face to face with a certain mysterious, blonde Parisian woman. You never know what she could be capable of!
Most similar to: Xenia Onatopp from Goldeneye (1995), a beautiful KGB assassin who gets into a very memorable fight with Bond in a steam room and is known to crush men with her thighs (I swear to God, no lie). She is played by Famke Janssen.
“Would Sleep With Bond” Factor (0-10): 7. She could be too busy trying to kill him, but there’s always time, right?

Melina • With her seemingly permanent foul mood, Melina would make a perfect foe for Bond. Then again, she has been known to use people for her benefit, so perhaps she could befriend him for her own gain. One thing’s for sure – Melina is fiercely loyal to her true friends (as few and far between they may be), and would stop at nothing to have things done her way.
Most similar to: Melina Havelock (aptly named, eh?) from For Your Eyes Only (1981), a woman out for revenge following the murders of her parents. She aides Bond along the way as well, of course. She is played by Carole Bouquet.
“Would Sleep With Bond” Factor (0-10): 4. A revenge-minded woman rarely thinks of anything else, so unless there’s a detour, Bond might not bed her.

• • • • • • • •

Mickie James • Her peppy attitude could counter Bond’s cool and calm demeanor, perhaps for laughs. In the deadly and dangerous world of secret agents, having a woman who can be a true ally with an optimistic and possibly even cheery outlook would be quite the change, and Mickie is the woman for the job.
Most similar to: Wai Lin from Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), a Chinese agent who is on the same mission as Bond, aiding him along the way even though she is actually competing with him to complete the case. The two work spectacularly as a team, and Lin is anything but a mere female companion, never hung up on the sexual tension. She is played by Michelle Yeoh.
“Would Sleep With Bond” Factor (0-10): 5. If they’re teammates in work, chances are the actual friendship wouldn’t go the way of Bond’s usual meaningless flings.

• • • • • • • •

Personally, I’m bummed that I couldn’t find a Diva similar to Vesper Lynd from Casino Royale, but she is arguably the best Bond girl, so maybe the Divas just don’t measure up. Are there any you think we missed, or is your favorite listed above? Vote in the poll below and sound off in the comments! Be sure to state their name Bond, James Bond style. ;) *cues Bond theme*

THE SUMMER ROUNDUP

Summer is winding down, school is back in session (at least where I live!), and – tragically – the big summer movies have each come and gone. So, I’ve taken the liberty and assembled this roundup of all of my Screen Sirens posts made over the course of the summer. (Click here to see the original posts.) Who did you, the vistors, think would shine in these female roles? How about what I think? Check out all of it by following the cut..

PEPPER POTTS IN “IRON MAN”

Who?: Pepper Potts, the no-nonsense assistant to Tony Stark (AKA Iron Man).
What Movie?: “Iron Man”, the film featuring Marvel Comics superhero Iron Man. It tells his origin story and paves the way for a franchise to rival that of the “Spider-Man” films.
Who Plays Her?: Gwyneth Paltrow, star of such movies as “Emma”, “Se7en”, and “The Royal Tenenbaums”.
Who do you think could play her?: There was a 3-way tie between Katie Lea, Torrie Wilson, & Trish Stratus.
What do I think?: She came in 2nd place, but I think Michelle McCool could fill Pepper’s shoes quite well. We’d have to work on the southern drawl, as Pepper has no accent to speak of, but I believe she could pull off the serious-but-sweet routine. Forget Michelle’s “naughty teacher” stint – you know, when she inexplicably carried a ruler around and wore prop eyeglasses; This would be far different. Michelle, like Pepper, is beautiful, but not outrageously gorgeous, allowing her to be somewhat overlooked next to more flashy (and easy) women. Pepper has to balance her go-go-go occupation, which consists of following around and managing billionaire weapons manufacturer/playboy Tony Stark, with possible (maybe unrequited) feelings towards him. Not to mention, she has to make sure he doesn’t end up killing himself whilst flying around in a super-powered suit of armor, trying to battle evildoers. That takes some serious business sense, dedication, and organizational skills to rival even the most OCD. Pepper ain’t no damsel in distress, and I feel that Michelle effectively combines the serious demeanor, sympathy, and fortitude to play Tony Stark’s redheaded babysitter.
Notable Quote: (Speaking to a woman who Tony had slept with the night before, about to escort her out of the house) “I do anything and everything Mr. Stark requires, including occasionally taking out the trash. Will that be all?”

TRIXIE IN “SPEED RACER”

Who?: Trixie, the spunky girlfriend of Speed Racer, the brave and determined race car driver.
What Movie?: “Speed Racer”, the film adaptation of the classic cartoon. It follows Speed and the entire Racer family as he attempts to avenge his brother’s death by defeating a rival organization in a high-stakes race.
Who Plays Her?: Christina Ricci, star of such movies as “The Addams Family”, “Casper”, and “Sleepy Hollow”.
Who do you think could play her?: Maria garnered the majority of the votes.
What do I think?: I agree with you guys – Maria has the perfect combination of cutesy-ness and a bubbly personality to fit right in with the cartoon. That’s not to say she’s devoid of personality – she’s got plenty. In a role that’s pretty much that of a cheerleader to Speed, it’s easy to see Maria spitting out quick quips and cheering on her boyfriend in squeaky-clean fashion. Couldn’t you see her covered head-to-toe in shiny pink? I sure could – hence why she’s my top Diva choice for Trixie.
Notable Quote: “Cool beans!”

THE WHITE WITCH IN “PRINCE CASPIAN”

Who?: Jadis, the evil White Witch who looks to hold power over the land of Narnia.
What Movie?: “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian”, the sequel to “The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe” and based off the book series.
Who Plays Her?: Tilda Swinton, star of such movies as “Vanilla Sky”, “Michael Clayton”, and “Burn After Reading”.
Who do you think could play her?: Beth Phoenix dominated the poll.
What do I think?: Again, I agree! Beth Pheonix seems perfect to play an icy queen. It’s no coincidence she calls herself the Glamazon, because she’s got the evil glare and arrogant demeanor down perfectly. She’s intimidating as hell, so it’s easy to imagine her holding practically a dictatorship over and entire kingdom, even changing its climate to match her icy nature. Her statuesque poses don’t hurt in projecting a regal image, either.. Beth is hardly known for her friendliness – she’d sooner break you in half than hug you – so I can’t possibly picture another Diva or Knockout playing such an evil role. She’s not in this film nearly as much as the previous one, but the mere memory of her is enough to send chills down your spine.
Notable Quote: “I have no interest in prisoners. Kill them all.”

IRINA SPALKO IN “INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL”

Who?: Dr. Col. Irina Spalko, a Colonel from Soviet Russia who seeks the mythical Crystal Skill.
What Movie?: “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, the sequel in the iconic “Indiana Jones” series – one nearly 20 years in the making.
Who Plays Her?: Cate Blanchett, star of such movies as “Elizabeth”, “The Talented Mr. Ripley”, and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”.
Who do you think could play her?: Very easily, Victoria was the clear favorite.
What do I think?: I’m with you again on this one. Victoria is the perfect combination of toughness and wit, and I could actually see her speaking in that over-the-top accent. The character may seem like somewhat of a loon, as she is obsessed with psychic powers and the supernatural, and Victoria could play that off perfectly, known to get a little goofy at times. Spalko commands many men and even goes toe-to-toe with Dr. Jones himself, and we all know that Victoria has the tough act played perfectly. There’s no doubt in my mind that Victoria could play Spalko, even down to the severe bob she sports throughout the film – projecting something of a unisex look. No other Diva or Knockout could take a role so possibly goofy and make you take her seriously.
Notable Quote: “You fight like a young man; eager to start and quick to finish.”

CARRIE, SAMANTHA, CHARLOTTE, & MIRANDA IN “SEX & THE CITY”

Who?: Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Charlotte York, & Miranda Hobbes, four very different women who experience life’s ups and downs, leaning on each other along the way.
What Movie?: “Sex and the City”, the movie adaptation of the long-running television series of the same name.
Who Plays Them?: Sarah Jessica Parker (“The Family Stone”), Kim Cattrall (“Mannequin”), Kristin Davis (“The Shaggy Dog”), and Cynthia Nixon (“Little Manhattan”).
Who do you think could play them?: Trish Stratus was named for Carrie, Terri Runnels & Candice Michelle were suggested for Samantha, Charlotte got Torrie Wilson, Michelle McCool, & Cherry, and Victoria & Maria were named for Miranda.
What do I think?: I liked most of the suggestions. I could totally see Trish Stratus playing the daring and romantic Carrie, providing puns and thoughtful insight as the show’s lead character and narrator. Trish is spunky herself, much like Carrie. Besides, wouldn’t it be funny to see Trish in that famous pink tutu dress? Candice Michelle definitely jumps out at me as someone for Samantha. I much prefer Candice as a heel, and as a heel she oozes sex – she’s confident and seductive. I could even see her spitting double entendres ala Samantha, all while proving that, at the end of the day, she doesn’t need personal fulfillment from anyone but herself. Mickie James may not be the most innocent of the Divas, but she’s such a happy-go-lucky face that I could see her playing the wide-eyed naive Charlotte pretty effectively. Mickie could turn on her southern charm (without the accent, of course) to play the most innocent of the bunch. Tell me that smile doesn’t make you think of cheerful-yet-worrisome Charlotte! This wasn’t one of the suggestions at all, but I feel Molly Holly would be perfect for Miranda, and not just because she was known for her uptightness. Molly, as a heel, was pretty neurotic, getting quite frustrated when things didn’t go her way. She plays the straight character very well, never getting too silly, even as a babyface. It doesn’t hurt that she was one of the most prudish Divas, because Miranda, while not a prude, was hardly the vixen that Samantha was or Carrie tended to be at times.
Notable Quote: (Samantha speaking in one of her famous double entendres) “I can’t color enough, I would color all day every day If I had my way, I would use every crayon in my box.”
Who do you think could play her?: Melina lead the votes by a sizable margin.
What do I think?: I sort of agree with the idea of Melina, but I’m leaning more towards Gail Kim. No, this is not because of her Korean descent, but moreso her voice, since that is what’s on show in this movie. She has a very forceful voice, in my opinion – fierce yet feminine. Angelina Jolie has those characteristics, and thus Gail seems like a perfect match. Tigress is soft-spoken, but when she feels the need to speak, she does not mince words. I think Gail’s soft tone would help personify Tigress in a way that Angelina managed to achieve.

Who?: Dr. Elizabeth Ross, better known as Betty. She is Dr. Bruce Banner’s former colleague and estranged girlfriend.
What Movie?: “The Incredible Hulk”, the re-boot of the franchise surrounding Marvel Comics’s iconic character of the Hulk, a monster who manifests himself when Bruce Banner – a Radiation Biologist whose body was bombarded with gamma radiation during a lab accident – gets angry. The movie follows Banner as he searches for a cure and attempts to thwart capture by the military.
Who Plays Her?: Liv Tyler, star of such movies as “Empire Records”, “Armageddon”, and the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
Who do you think could play her?: Eve Torres was the favorite, according to your votes.
What do I think?: I’m not feeling Eve on this one – I haven’t seen enough of her to know her personality, aside from being a brunette like Betty. In this case, I feel Melina could fit this role quite well, and this isn’t a case of me picking my favorite Diva for my favorite female comic book character. :P In truth, Melina is more more than her outlandish character may suggest. She’s fiercely loyal – just watch any of MNM’s matches – she’ll do anything to secure a win for her team, even climbing into the ring to get in on the action. In that same vein, Betty is just about the only person on Bruce’s side, putting herself in harm’s way when the military looks to either capture Bruce or take down the Hulk. As a Cellular Biologist, she’s incredibly intelligent, and Melina has smarts of her own, often showcased in matches with her well-planned strategies to find an opponent’s weak spot and exploit it. She aims to be one step ahead of her opponent, and often achieves that. That being said, she often lets her emotions get the best of her, which can also be said for Betty, who drops everything to help Bruce in his quest to rid himself of the monster. Whether or not they succeed is beside the point – the main idea is that Betty is never one to simply sit on the sidelines. Of course, she’s not trading blows with bad guys, but she’s constantly in the mix, whether applying her intellect or speaking to the Hulk, coaxing Bruce back to the surface. Melina, even in her early days as a manager, never sat still at ringside. That earned her a reputation as one of the greatest managers in the current era, and it makes her the perfect Betty Ross in my eyes.
Notable Quote: (Speaking to Bruce about whether or not he is “somewhere inside” when he is the Hulk) “I don’t know.. In the cave, I really felt like it knew me. Maybe your mind is in there, it’s just overcharged and can’t process what’s happening.”

Who?: Agent 99, secret agent and partner of the bumbling Maxwell Smart.
What Movie?: “Get Smart”, movie adaptation of the television series about the adventures of a dimwitted secret agent.
Who Plays Her?: Anne Hathaway, star of such movies as “Princess Diaries”, “Brokeback Mountain”, and “The Devil Wears Prada”.
Who do you think could play her?: Melina won the popular vote.
What do I think?: Melina’s not my ideal choice – I’d rather go with Stacy Keibler. There’s something about her attitude that I think would fit Agent 99 perfectly. She’s sexy, smart, and smooth, all qualities that Agent 99 possesses. Her nonchalant nature also fits – Agent 99 is often the cooler head while Max is acting outlandish. Stacy may not look like an imposing figure, but neither does Agent 99. That’s part of the package, as she can slip in and out of disguise without being discovered as a secret agent. Using weapons and special fighting techniques, I’d believe that she could take out the bad guys. Also, playing the straight man to Max’s crazy character seems like something Stacy could pull off – she was never known to be the most outlandish Diva. Her height helps too, but that’s not essential – what is essential is her ability to play off of Maxwell Smart, and she, in my opinion, would certainly be able to accomplish that.
Notable Quote: (Speaking to Max) “Do you ever think before you open your mouth?”

Who?: Fox, a deadly assassin who deftly avoids death on a regular basis.
What Movie?: “Wanted”, the movie adaptation of the graphic novel about a team of assassins.
Who Plays Her?: Angelina Jolie, star of such movies as “Girl, Interrupted”, “Alexander”, and “A Mighty Heart”.
Who do you think could play her?: Lita garnered the most votes.
What do I think?: I’ve got to go with Lita as well. She’s always had a “rebel” persona, playing the badass whether babyface or heel. Her daredevil wrestling style made her immensely popular with fans, and that can be seen in Fox as well, whether hanging out of a moving car while driving or leaping onto the top of a moving train. She seems to fear nothing, and does everything it takes to get her kill. Lita is similar in that fashion, but moreso in pursuit of a victory, whether scaling the turnbuckle for a moonsault or diving to the outside and nearly breaking her neck (for the second time!). Her style as a heel is very much like Fox – a lot of leather. She was constantly in a foul mood, as was Fox, and seemed to be intent on staying in control. Not to mention the tattoos – Fox is covered in what appears to be tribal ink, and Lita is definitely the most decorated Diva in that sense. Who could envision her without her famous shoulder tattoo? And when it comes down to it, I could definitely picture Lita wielding guns and leaping from buildings – couldn’t you?

Who?: Mary Embrey, wife of Hancock’s P.R. representative, and a woman who harbors a deep secret.
What Movie?: “Hancock”, a film about a down-and-out superhero who seeks redemption in the public eye.
Who Plays Her?: Charlize Theron, star of such movies as “The Cider House Rules”, “The Italian Job”, and “Monster”.
Who do you think could play her?: Torrie Wilson was the lead vote-getter in the poll.
What do I think?: Torrie Wilson is my choice too. Aside from being a fellow blonde, I think Torrie has that sweet-yet-serious dynamic that Mary has. She appears to be nothing more than a loving wife, but as the film progresses, she is revealed to be much, MUCH more. Torrie, on the outset, may not seem to be shrouded in mystery, but you can’t deny that she seems capable of much more than she lets on. Often, Torrie was relegated to T&A fare – bikini contests, lingerie matches – and didn’t get to battle in serious competition often enough. Mary is like-minded in that she possesses something that can’t be easily seen without having exhibited her full potential. Torrie can play the sweet routine easily, but a furious glare at Hancock could come just as easily. She, like Mary, is not just the girl next door, no matter what her looks may tell you.

Who?: Liz Sherman, a pyrokinetic paranormal investigator and girlfriend of demon Hellboy.
What Movie?: “Hellboy II: The Golden Army”, a sequel to the original movie about the comic book character Hellboy, who works with the U.S. government to track down and solve paranormal disturbances.
Who Plays Her?: Selma Blair, star of such movies as “Cruel Intentions”, “Legally Blonde”, and “The Sweetest Thing”.
Who do you think could play her?: Victoria & Gail Kim tied for first place in the poll.
What do I think?: I don’t think either of those girls fit, to be quite honest. My choice would be Christy Hemme. I know she’s not the most popular figure here, but this Knockout has always been known for her “spitfire” reputation – pun intended. She’s fierce in the ring, and while small in stature, like Liz, she packs quite the punch. While Liz can manifest fire through her fingertips, Christy is more emotionally firey. She has the look down pat – intense eyes, distinct hair. You almost don’t want to upset her for fear of bringing out an emotional thunderstorm, much like Liz bursting into flames when emotionally unstable. Whether a heel in TNA or the spunky babyface in the WWE, Christy has alway been a ball of energy, and while Liz may prefer to stay unnoticed – she despises her “freak” label – Christy seems more inclined to embrace opposition. They may differ in that respect, but it’s almost too easy to picture Christy with fire emanating from her fingertips. On top of that, Christy has often surrounded herself with unconventional company, like the Legion of Doom in the WWE. In that respect, Liz has Hellboy, who’s not even human. Neither of these women simply blend into the scenery – that’s for sure.

Who?: Rachel Dawes, the assistant D.A. of Gotham City and one of the few who know Batman’s true identity.
What Movie?: “The Dark Knight”, the second movie in the new Batman franchise, about the iconic DC Comics masked vigilante who fights crime in corrupt Gotham City.
Who Plays Her?: Maggie Gyllenhaal, star of such movies as “Secretary”, “Mona Lisa Smile”, and “Sherrybaby”. She was previously played by Katie Holmes (“Wonder Boys”).
Who do you think could play her?: Maria leads the poll by a significant amount.
What do I think?: I’d prefer to see Katie Lea as Rachel. I know she has a thick English accent, but let’s pretend that she’d be able to ditch it in favor of something more American. Katie, like Rachel, isn’t afraid to take on the big boys. In her first matches on RAW, Katie took on male wrestlers alongside her brother Paul. She stood toe-to-toe with them, as Rachel does when she stands up to corrupt mob bosses in Gotham City’s courtrooms. Even in the face of maniacs like the Joker, Rachel stays confident, even socking the clown in the stomach as he holds a knife to her face. Katie, in my opinion, is a very tough Diva, willing to mix it up with men and women alike. Rachel has another side, though, harboring feelings for Bruce Wayne, Batman’s alter ego. However, when he becomes too preoccupied with his vigilante side, she leaves him, not content to be set aside. This type of self-assurance is something Katie shows quite often in the ring and when on the microphone, singing her own praises. Rachel is constantly in harm’s way, both due to her occupation in dealing with criminals and her association with Batman, but she stays true to herself, never allowing herself to become corrupt like the majority of Gotham’s justice department. Who knows if Katie Lea has that sort of integrity – she is a heel, after all – but if it came down to it, I’m sure Katie would never back down from a fight, even with a man. In that respect, she and Batman’s true love are quite the same.

Welcome to the twelfth edition of Screen Sirens! Here I will bridge the gap between our beloved (well, some at least) women of wrestling and the leading ladies gracing the movie screen – whether they be damsels in distress, kick-ass bombshells, dramatic protagonists, or anything in between – we will celebrate the influence and presence of women in the movies and see how they in turn could be connected to the Divas and Knockouts we discuss on this very blog.

With this week’s release of “The Dark Knight”, we’ll look at the character of Rachel Dawes, the childhood friend of Bruce Wayne (better known as Batman) and assistant D.A. under Harvey Dent. The character of Rachel Dawes was created specifically for the recent Batman movie franchise, as she was not present in the comics. She helps bridge the gap between Bruce’s childhood and was led to him becoming Batman. She is a romantic interest for him, but it may be is destined to never happened, as she refuses to be with him while he hides his identity and devotes his life to defending Gotham City.

In “The Dark Knight”, Rachel has developed a relationship with District Attorney Harvey Dent, much to Bruce’s lament. She refuses to be Bruce’s only connection to a normal life, encouraging him to find a normal life for himself. She is strong-willed, hardly standing by in the violent and male-dominated world. She refuses to be stepped on, and often takes charge against dangerous criminals in her quest to put them behind bars and bring safety to Gotham, even if that means putting her own life at risk.

Which Diva or Knockout would be suitable for the role of Rachel? She is strong, yet vulnerable, and combines both attitude and intelligence to effectively do her job as Assistant D.A. Who would be convincing as the street-smart and fearless Rachel Dawes? (WARNING: I’m aware that this poll is huge – I wanted to include as many women as possible – ludicrous choices or not!)

Welcome to the eleventh edition of Screen Sirens!

With this week’s release of “Hellboy II: The Golden Army”, we’ll look at the character of Liz Sherman, the pyrokinetic paranormal investigator. In this film, Mary is played by Selma Blair. Liz was a normal child until her pyrokinetic abilities began to manifest themselves around her eleventh birthday. The eruption took the lives of her family and destroyed an entire city block. She was taken in by the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense where she learned to control her power to some degree. She was subsequently teamed with Hellboy and Abe Sapien. They often investigate situations involving hostile paranormal creatures, coming into contact with other-worldly creatures. Liz uses her “firepower” to defend herself and others, and is more than capable of holding her own while Hellboy uses more physical measures to take out the bad guys.

In this movie, Liz is in a more developed relationship with Hellboy, living with him. She is very aware of her uniqueness, and is constantly bothered by the attention it brings her. She states on several occasions that she hates being stared at, afraid of being labeled a “freak”. This constant change between confidence and self-loathing makes Liz a very vulnerable character.

Which Diva or Knockout would be suitable for the role of Liz? She is emotionally withdrawn and damaged, yet still known to have a “fiery” temper (pun intended). Who would be able to convey the emotions of such a bottled-up character, yet still look like she’s able to burn you to a crisp? (WARNING: I’m aware that this poll is huge – I wanted to include as many women as possible – ludicrous choices or not!)

Welcome to the tenth edition of Screen Sirens!

With this week’s release of “Hancock”, we’ll look at the character of Mary Embrey, the wife of Hancock’s P.R. representative. In this film, Mary is played by Charlize Theron. According to IMDB.com: John Hancock (Will Smith) is an unhappy and reluctant superhero who is living in his own world. For some unknown reason, Hancock is depressed and has started drinking very heavily. He has saved many lives in Los Angles over the years, but in doing so, he has no regards for damaging buildings, trains, roads, cars, or anything that gets in his way to get the job done. The public has had enough of Hancock, and they want him to stop or go to another city. Then one day, Hancock saves the life of Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman) from being run over by a train. Ray is a Public Relations executive, and owes Hancock his life, and he makes it his mission to change his superhero’s image. Ray’s wife, Mary (Charlize Theron), believes Hancock cannot be fixed.

Which Diva or Knockout would be suitable for the role of Mary? She appears to be cautious and unconvinced of Hancock’s integrity, and doesn’t share her husband’s belief in the fallen superhero’s potential. Without going into spoiler territory, it’s safe to say that she holds a much bigger role in the story than she appears to on the outset. There doesn’t appear to be any specifics that would go into portraying such a character, but the ability to hide a major characteristic under an unassuming visage definitely comes into play. Which Diva/Knockout do you think could stand aside the likes of Will Smith? (WARNING: I’m aware that this poll is huge – I wanted to include as many women as possible – ludicrous choices or not!)

Welcome to the ninth edition of Screen Sirens!

With this weekend’s release of “Wanted”, we’ll look at the character of Fox, the deadly and mysterious assasin. In this film, Fox is played by Angelina Jolie. She is the second-in-command of The Fraternity, a league of assassins who recruit Wesley Gibson, a slacker in his mid-20s who is the oblivious son of a legendary assassin. Fox is adept in weaponry and physical combat, able to slip into dangerous situations (such as hanging out of the window of a moving car) and come out unscathed and triumphant. Her cool demeanor brings an allure to her, making her seem unattainable and almost unreal. Tougher than any man she’s come in contact with, Fox looks to uphold justice, even if it means countless calculated murders.

Which Diva would be suitable for the role of Fox? She is badass in every way, wielding a gun and driving a car with equal ferocity and ease. She is tattooed all over, adding to her tough edge. Her cold attitude lacks emotion, but as an assassin, emotional detachment is of high importance. Any number of the tough Divas could pass for a deadly, high-ranked assassin, but who could pass off as such a mysterious and cool character? She doesn’t mince words, and doesn’t often crack a smile, so the combination of seriousness and intimidation is required. Who could fill those shoes? (WARNING: I’m aware that this poll is huge – I wanted to include as many women as possible – ludicrous choices or not!)

Welcome to the eighth edition of Screen Sirens!

With this weekend’s release of “Get Smart”, we’ll look at the character of Agent 99, the tough-as-nails and resourceful secret agent. In this film, Agent 99 is played by Anne Hathaway. She is Maxwell Smart’s much more intelligent and capable partner, often needing to get him out trouble. She is suave and slick, especially when compared to her bumbling partner. As many women in the “spy” genre films, she is both sexy and deadly, capable of defeating the bad guys and look impeccable while doing so.

Which Diva would be suitable for the role of Agent 99? Almost any WWE could fit this role, in some shape or form. After all, Agent 99 is both sexy and tough – two distinguishing characteristics of a WWE Diva. Who could pull off the super-spy attitude, being kick-ass and alluring at the same time? She must be able to combine the wit and charm of Anne Hathaway and Barbara Feldon and have the believable toughness that makes Agent 99 so intimidating. (WARNING: I’m aware that this poll is huge – I wanted to include as many women as possible – ludicrous choices or not!)

Welcome to the seventh edition of Screen Sirens!

With this weekend’s release of “The Incredible Hulk”, we’ll look at the character of Betty Ross, the intelligent and fiercely loyal beloved of the cursed Bruce Banner. In this film, Betty is played by Liv Tyler. She is a doctor, being a former colleague of Dr. Bruce Banner (played by Edward Norton), and is the only person who can see inside of the gruesome monster that is the Hulk and know that it is truly Bruce within. When the whole world seems to be against Banner, either looking to destroy the Hulk or use it for their own purposes, Betty is his rock, guiding him and aiding him in trying to find a cure to his cursed condition. The two are “star-crossed lovers” of sorts, destined to be kept apart until Banner finds a way to rid himself of the monster. This only serves to torment Bruce more, as he hates the monster in him and yearns for Betty. She is hardly a “damsel in distress”, taking matters into her own hands and offering both her intellect and passion in order to help Bruce and alleviate his suffering.

Which Diva would be suitable for the role of Betty? Well, she would first be able to convincingly play a woman of great intelligence. She is both highly intelligent, yet beautiful at the same time – being the beauty to Bruce’s beast, the Hulk. Her demeanor is mostly calm and subdued, being the polar opposite of the Hulk, who is brought about by rage on the part of Dr. Banner. The part is also partly physical, as she is often caught between one or more monsters and must avoid being crushed by any number of airborne objects. So, the Diva in question must combine the qualities of intelligence, humble beauty, and bring a great sense of calm without seeming bland or forced. Who could take these qualities and transform themselves into Dr. Betty Ross? (WARNING: I’m aware that this poll is huge – I wanted to include as many women as possible – ludicrous choices or not!)

Welcome to the sixth edition of Screen Sirens!

With this weekend’s release of “Kung Fu Panda”, we’ll look at the character of Tigress, the no-nonsense Kung Fu master. In this film, Tigress is voiced by Angelina Jolie. Angelina brings a quiet intensity to the tough and deadly tiger. In the beginning, Tigress is distrusting in others and self-serving, but needless to say, her character undergoes a metamorphosis throughout the film. She is easily the most proficient member of the “Furious Five”, and is clearly not one to mess with.

Which Diva could voice Tigress? Obviously, this is more than just the Diva’s attitude or character. Her voice has to convey the serious but feminine nature of the character, making one both impressed and intimidated by her. Who could you see voicing this Kung Fu master? (WARNING: I’m aware that this poll is huge – I wanted to include as many women as possible – ludicrous choices or not!)

Welcome to the fifth edition of a new feature here at Diva Dirt – Screen Sirens!

With this weekend’s release of “Sex and the City”, we’ll look at the four women – Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha – that live, love, and play in the popular TV show-turned movie. Each have their quirks and individual stylers – Carrie’s the witty writer who constantly ahead of the fashion curve, Charlotte’s the “good girl” with a classic style to go with her more subdued persona, Miranda is the career woman with a serious wardrobe to match, and Samantha’s the man eater (for lack of a better term) who dresses bold but classy in keeping with her attitude. These four friends help each other through ups and downs involving love, jobs, and life in general, and are loyal to the end. Despite being very different from one another, they show that just about anyone can be friends, if they have a strong enough bond.

With Carrie’s outrageous style, Charlotte’s sweetness, Miranda’s take-charge attitude, and Samantha’s over-the-top sexuality, each have defining characteristics which make them unique.
Welcome to the fourth edition of a new feature here at Diva Dirt – Screen Sirens!

With this weekend’s release of “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, we’ll look at the character of Irina Spalko, the tough Soviet Agent sent to find Indiana Jones and get him to aid her in finding the mythical Crystal Skulls. In this film, Irina is played by Cate Blanchett. She is sent by leaders of the Soviet Union to uncover the legendery Crystal Skulls which are believed to be the key to an ancient Alien civilisation. Hoping to harness the extra terrestrial weapon for the cold war, Spalko uses Indiana Jones as a guide through the jungles of deepest Peru where they encounter a swarm of Bull Ants, lethal guards of the Temple of Akator and a face from Indy’s past!

Which Diva could embody this bold and ruthless Agent – nailing both the bob haircut and thick Russian accent? Perhaps one of the more charismatic Divas who can simultaneously make you fear her and portray a believable Russian heritage. One thing’s for certain – Irina doesn’t mess around. She’s cocky, no-nonsense, and will go to any length to complete the job. Who do you think would best fit that role? (WARNING: I’m aware that this poll is huge – I wanted to include as many women as possible – ludicrous choices or not!)

Welcome to the third edition of a new feature here at Diva Dirt – Screen Sirens!

With this weekend’s release of “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian”, we’ll look at the character of the White Witch, evil and callous villian who rules over Narnia. In this film, Jadis is played by Tilda Swinton, and though she only appears in this film and an apparition from beyond the grave, she still holds her evil and dark attitude that characterizes her as a deeply evil character. She is an extraordinarily beautiful and imposing woman. She is also physically powerful and amazonian, capable of breaking iron with her bare hands and lifting human beings off their feet. A natural-born sorceress and a cunning strategist, Jadis is arrogant and cruel, considering herself above all rules and viewing others as tools to be used or obstacles to be demolished.

Now, with this all-powerful and beautiful witch having all the conscience of your typical heel Diva, it’s easy to envision some of the WWE’s evilest Divas emobdying this role. Should her height and fair skin factor in, or should the manner of character be first and foremost? Make your decision below! (WARNING: I’m aware that this poll is huge – I wanted to include as many women as possible – ludicrous choices or not!)
Welcome to the second edition of a new feature here at Diva Dirt – Screen Sirens!

With this weekend’s release of “Speed Racer”, we’ll look at the character of Trixie Fontaine, the perky and ever-loyal girlfriend of Speed Racer. In this film, Trixie is played by Christina Ricci, and her sharp bob and bright pink outfits fit in perfectly with the surreal imagery and cartoon-like nature of this live action movie. Trixie quick-witted but not rude, and manages to keep a innocent demeanor while alongside all of the masculine energy of the race track. She flies above the action, watching over Speed and keeping him out of trouble and into the winner’s circle.

Some may see Trixie as a bland, typical character – she’s a good girl, and mostly watches as the action goes on – but a certain spin can be put on the character without sacrificing her family-friendly reputation. Her relationship with Speed is PG-friendly and she’s hardly sexed-up, image-wise. But maybe that helps her stand out in these days of party girls and sexy leading ladies.. Sounds interesting enough to me!

Trixie is literally a cartoon character come to life – everything about her is animated. So which Diva or Knockout could fill Trixie’s shoes? Idealistically, it’d be one with personality and an image that is neither too sexy nor too boring. Make your choice below, and tell us who and why in the comments! (WARNING: I’m aware that this poll is huge – I wanted to include as many women as possible – ludicrous choices or not!)
Welcome to the start of a new feature here at Diva Dirt – Screen Sirens!

This edition is a little late, but after this movie’s huge opening weekend, we just had to make time for it. Of course, I’m referring to “Iron Man”! The critical and commercial darling stars Robert Downey, Jr., Jeff Bridges, Terrence Howard, and Gwyneth Paltrow and tells the story of a billionaire weapons engineer who undergoes a life-changing experience and eventually turns into the metal-suited Iron Man.

The leading lady in this story is Pepper Potts, played by Gwyneth Paltrow. Pepper is Tony Stark (aka Iron Man)’s personal secretary. She appears to be very straight-laced, but as the film progresses, more and more of her business-like demeanor is stripped away to reveal a more complex and emotional woman.

Her Wikipedia entry reveals more specific attributes: In the comics, for instance, Pepper marries Happy Hogan, Tony Stark’s chauffeur and assistant (portrayed in the movie by Jon Favreau). In the film, the two do not share this connection and Pepper instead seems to be infatuated with Tony. Tony’s “playboy” reputation is held much more intact in the comics, while is seems to diminish completely in the movie following his development into Iron Man. All together, it seems as though Pepper’s role in the film is more of a typical Hollywood take, with the leading lady appearing to be paired with the leading man – but who can argue with that? Robert Downey Jr. in a wifebeater may be hard to resist for some..

So, my question is this: Which Diva or Knockout would best fit the role of Pepper Potts? Make your choice below, and tell us who and why in the comments! (WARNING: I’m aware that this poll is huge – I wanted to include as many women as possible – ludicrous choices or not!)
