Joshi Wrestler Ray to Make SHIMMER Debut in March

SHIMMER has announced that Japanese wrestler Ray will be making her debut for the company at their tapings to be held March 17 and 18.

Says SHIMMER of Ray: “The Joshi 4 Hope office secured one of the most athletic women on the joshi scene in Ray to join their group for the March SHIMMER weekend… with a fast paced, exciting style in the ring, Ray is very unique addition to what has become a very global SHIMMER roster of talent.”

For those who’d like a little more information about Ray, she was trained by Emi Sakura at the Gatokunyan dojo and made her professional wrestling debut against her in a match that took place in September 2003 at the legendary Korakuen Hall. Since then, she’s wrestled for a plethora of promotions, some of which include IBUKI, NEO Japan, BJW, JWP, Oz Academy and Universal Woman’s Pro Wrestling REINA.

In her time in wrestling she’s performed under different personas and masks. Originally debuting as ‘Rei‘ (Japanese for ‘Zero’), she also made several appearances with JDStar as ‘Caribbean Moon‘ (a character inspired by the famous Pirates of the Carribean films) between 2006 and 2007, she joined Nanae Takahashi‘s stable Passion Red and re-named herself ‘Passion Ray‘ in 2009, and in 2010 she stripped herself of the mask to wrestle for Tajiri’s promotion SMASH as ‘Lin Bairon‘ (she actually ended up working for SMASH as both Bairon and Ray, the two being treated as entirely different people).

On September 2011 in Tokyo, she defeated Zeuxis to become the CMLL-Reina International Junior Champion – a victory which led to her making the jump to Mexico for CMLL only a few weeks later. She ended up losing the title to Silueta on October 18.

Ray is the eighth in a string of Japanese wrestlers that have wrestled for SHIMMER, joining the likes of Ayako Hamada, Ayumi Kurihara, Hiroyo Matsumoto, Kana, Misaki Ohata, Tomoka Nakagawa, and Yumi Ohka as those who have made the transition to American soil.

BLACK FRIDAY OFFERS FOR SERIOUS COLLECTORS

We have a select few copies of out of print SHIMMER DVDs available this weekend for collectors looking to fill some gaps in their SHIMMER collection.

As we have legitimately only a few copies left of each of these old DVD titles, they are not being offered cheaply. We figured we would make them available for those fans who really would like to get their hands on them. These are original, unopened first edition releases, still in their factory wrapping. None of these are Big Vision retail versions of the DVDs.

Next SHIMMER Dates Announced

SHIMMER has announced the dates for its next set of DVD tapings: March 17th and 18th, 2012.

The company will film Volumes 45-48 in its DVD series over the two days at the Berwyn Eagles Club in Berwyn, IL.

At the last set of tapings which took place at the top of the month, Cheerleader Melissa became the new SHIMMER Champion by defeating Madison Eagles.

Earlier this month, Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s Dan Murphy made an appearance at SHIMMER Women Athletes to present a plaque to Madison Eagles, who netted the #1 spot on their annual Female 50 list in September. Our friends at SHIMMER have released the video of the presentation, which also features SHIMMER mainstay, Serena Deeb.Check out the video below:

Cheerleader Melissa Wins SHIMMER Championship

SHIMMER original Cheerleader Melissa has been crowned the new SHIMMER Champion after defeating Madison Eagles just moments ago at the SHIMMER Vol. 44 taping in Berwyn, IL.

Melissa ends Eagles’ 18 month reign as SHIMMER Champion. Eagles won the belt in April 2010.

Melissa is one of the only SHIMMER stars to be featured on every single volume of SHIMMER’s DVD series.

A huge congratulations to Melissa!

Looks like Martinez may have turned heel and Athena face.

* Jessie McKay def. Britani Knight via Boyfriend Stealer. Post-match, Saraya comes out and disowns Britani. Britani tries to apologize, but Saraya slaps her. Britani attacks Saraya, which starts a fight that takes about 10 dudes to break up. Britani says that Rebecca left because of Saraya and now she’s leaving too and challenges her mother to a match. More fighting ensues. AWESOME segment.

* Serena def. Portia Perez in a No Holds Barred match via Spear off of a table.

* Cheerleader Melissa def. Kana via Air Raid Crash to become #1 contender for the SHIMMER Championship.

SHIMMER has announced several matches for today’s Volume 43 and 44 tapings which will include Sara Del Rey & Madison Eagles challenging for the SHIMMER Tag Team Championships, plus Cheerleader Melissa will face Kana.

SHIMMER is back in action later today, Sunday, October 2nd, again at the Berwyn Eagles Club, located at 6309 26th Street in Berwyn, IL. Volumes 43 & 44 of the SHIMMER DVD series will be taped during today’s live event. Doors open at noon. SPARKLE pre-show bouts begin at 12:30pm. Main show bell time today is 1pm. General admission tickets will be available at the door, at a cost of $30 for the full day of taping (essentially $15 per DVD worth of live matches). The event is suitable for all ages.

Today’s taping will conclude by 8pm this evening, and will be immediately followed by an after party at Michael Anthony’s Restaurant & Bar, located at 6434 Ogden Ave. in Berwyn, just one mile from the Eagles Club!

* Kana def. Mia Yim via rear naked chokehold variation. Great debut for Kana and a great showing for Yim.

* Pro Wrestling Illustrated editor Dan Murphy presents Madison Eagles with a plaque for being #1 on the PWI Female 50. Madison announces that she will be facing Serena tonight. Serena hits the ring and congratulates Eagles. Serena tells her that she should focus on their title match tonight. Serena says she been through a lot, but she never lost her passion to be SHIMMER Champion. She promises to win the SHIMMER title tonight.

* Daizee Haze and Tomoka Nakagawa come out to the ring and say that have nothing to prove and are taking the night off. Bryce Remsberg comes out and says that they have to defend their titles tonight. Ayumi Kurihara and Ayako Hamada come to the ring next and a SHIMMER Tag Team Title match is set, despite Daizee and Tomoka not being dressed for competition.

* Hamada and Kurihara def. Haze and Nakagawa to become NEW SHIMMER Tag Team Champions. Ayumi got the pin on Nakagawa after two exploder suplexes.

* Ashley Lane vs Nevaeh is up next.

* Nevaeh def. Ashley Lane via German suplex. After the match, Sassy Stephie joins Neveah in the ring to celebrate.

* Daizee comes out and goes on tirade about her loss, ending with her quitting the promotion.

* Britani Knight vs Cheerleader Melissa is next.

* Melissa def. Britani via Air Raid Crash. Post-match, Saraya comes out and berates a frightened Britani and chases her to the back.

* Portia cuts a promo on Serena and says she hope Deeb wins the title so she can beat her for it.

* Saraya Knight w/ Britani Knight vs Allison Danger w/ Leva Bates is next. Britani says that Rebecca Knox is not here because Danger attacked her and broke her nail. Danger comes out and challenges Saraya to a “British rounds match”. Allison Danger wins the first round via roll up. Second round: No winner. Third round: Saraya Knight by using the ropes. Saraya wins the fourth round with her arm across Danger’s throat to win the contest.

Madison Rayne Returns to Her SHIMMER Roots

Former TNA Knockouts Champion Madison Rayne made a surprise return to SHIMMER just moments ago at the Berwyn Eagles Club.

Rayne first found fame in SHIMMER as Ashley Lane prior to being snapped up by Impact Wrestling. Along with Nevaeh, Ashley was one half of the first ever SHIMMER Tag Team Champions.

Since joining TNA in 2009, Madison hasn’t been seen in SHIMMER until now. Returning as Ashley Lane, Madison is now feuding with her former tag team partner.

Athena vs Mia Yim | These SHIMMER newbies have been making waves and catching eyes in their downtime from the promotion. Mia Yim has made a name for herself in ROH, as well as the Japanese promotion REINA. Meanwhile, Athena has recently become the ACW American Joshi Champion. That said, neither lady has picked up a win in SHIMMER yet. We’d love to see these up and coming athletes face off against each other, with a possibility of gaining their first singles win in SHIMMER.

With SHIMMER Women Athletes right around the corner, lots of news is flowing in fast and heavy. SHIMMER has sent out several press releases, with some details for the weekend, including talent announcements, the debuts of Veda Scott and Davina Rose, DVD pre-orders and an awesome hype video! SHIMMER – WOMEN ATHLETES is proud to announce the addition of MENA LIBRA and VEDA SCOTT to its next events, just 10 days away at the Berwyn Eagles Club!

Still a relative newcomer to SHIMMER action, Mena Libra has only just begun to display her toughness and power inside the squared circle. Libra has been in a rivalry with MsChif on AAW events at the Eagles Club during recent months. They will be on opposite sides of the AAW six woman tag team match on 9/30, and Mena will also be a part of the SHIMMER tapings on 10/1 & 10/2.

Veda Scott is the latest graduate of the SHIMMER Wrestling Academy, still in the midst of her rookie year. During her early outings on the independent scene, Veda has had the opportunity to step in the ring against experienced athletes such as Portia Perez and Daizee Haze. In less than two weeks, Veda will make her Eagles Club debut.

SHIMMER – WOMEN ATHLETES is proud to announce the addition of DAVINA ROSE to its next DVD tapings, just six days away at the Berwyn Eagles Club!

Newark, California’s Davina Rose is a young wrestler who has begun to make waves on the west coast independent scene. Davina comes to us from the Big Time Wrestling and NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood promotions, having already had the opportunity to step in the ring either alongside or against several SHIMMER athletes, including Sara Del Rey, Allison Danger, Sassy Stephie, Christina Von Eerie, and Amazing Kong.

Perhaps Davina’s biggest supporter in her career thus far has been Serena Deeb. Over the past year, Serena has really taken Davina under her wing and served as a mentor, seeing a similar desire and commitment to the sport in Davina to that which helped Serena achieve many of her own goals. SHIMMER original Allison Danger has echoed Serena’s appreciation for Davina’s work ethic and potential as a wrestler, and as a result, Davina has been granted the opportunity to display what she is capable of inside the SHIMMER ring this coming weekene.

In less than a week, Davina Rose ventures away from the west coast independent scene for the first time, as she heads to Berwyn to join the ranks of SHIMMER – WOMEN ATHLETES!

SHIMMER returns to live action on Saturday & Sunday, October 1st & 2nd, 2011, at the Berwyn Eagles Club (6309 26th Street) in Berwyn, IL, just outside Chicago. It’s been a great start to the month of September for SHIMMER Champion, Madison Eagles. In fact, perhaps we should just dedicate this month in her honor? Seriously.

Last week, it was revealed that the 6’1″ Australian wrestler was ranked the number one female wrestler in all of North America by Pro Wrestling Illustrated, but even before that, Eagles had much to celebrate.

Madison Eagles Lands No. 1 Spot on PWI Female 50

On September 3rd, Madison’s all-female Australian promotion, PWWA, returned after a long hiatus with a full card of matches including the first ever international SHIMMER Championship defense. Eagles successfully retained her title on home soil by defeating Jessie McKay and Nicole Matthews in a three-way match.

Having just come off the PWWA show and a major tour in Adelaide where she faced Nicole Matthews every night, we caught up with Madison to find out how it feels to be ranked #1, the scoop from the PWWA show and more.

Congratulations on topping this year’s PWI Female 50! How long have you known and what was your reaction when you found out?
Thank you so much. I knew only a little sooner than everyone else, but then again nothing was certain until officially announced. Trust me, I don’t count my eggs until they are a sure thing. I was very pleasantly surprised, It’s also a bit surreal to say the least. Never in a million years did I think i would top that list.

How does it feel to be the first non-WWE/TNA name to top the list?
Crazy! And very proud to represent all those girls that don’t have what WWE/TNA typically look for in their wrestlers. I am a proud independent wrestler and I love to show everyone what women can offer.

What do you think this says about your work in SHIMMER and about the promotion itself?
I think it shows that we truly have the top talent in the world coming together to create something special, and to be honest I would not have gotten this top spot without SHIMMER. It has let me create something unique in my matches and express myself as a true wrestler, and you really can’t say that about a lot of places.

What has the reaction been like from your peers?
It has been a great amount of support. My friends have been so supportive, because they can see that it’s a big step in women’s wrestling to have an independent [wrestler] top the list. I have also had a lot of support from the fans, which is what we all really hope for.

What stands out in your mind over the past year that might have contributed to this? The match with Manami Toyota in CHIKARA perhaps?
I think just all the hard work I have been putting into all of my matches inside and outside of the ring. And of course all the great talent, like Toyota, that I have had the privileged opportunity to work with.

You’ve had a very inspirational journey. You came from Australia and really rose through the ranks in SHIMMER to become a top name on the independent scene in North America. Tell us about that journey.
It really does feel like a whirlwind. Only a few years ago I was trying to improve wrestling in Australia, and was completely unknown to the rest of the wrestling world. I really did go from being a total unknown to the position I am in today, and it really does feel like a bit of a dream at times. Lets just hope I don’t wake up!

It’s an especially great couple of weeks for you as your promotion PWWA in Australia had a successful comeback on September 3rd. How do you think it went?
It was truly a success. We had a huge amount of debuts for the company, and all the girls went out there and really gave it all they had. We had a crazy main event, and I hope we can show the world some more of our Australian talent, as well as our new New Zealand wrestlers.

The debuting New Zealand girls in particular seemed to make quite the impact. What are your thoughts on them? Would you like to see them return to Australia sooner rather than later?
Yes, we definitely want them back. All of them did a fantastic job, and did their country proud, especially considering this was their first time out of their area. I was particularly impressed with Evie. Everyone should be looking in her direction for the next up and coming star.

Any estimated time frame of when the next PWWA show will be?
We should be back very early in the New Year. The last show will also be released on DVD within the month.

How are you feeling after your brutal triple threat match for the SHIMMER Championship and a week’s worth of wrestling Nicole Matthews on top of that? How is your shoulder holding up after your unfortunate car accident earlier this year?
The triple threat was tough. I had quite a few months taking it easy since my injury, but nothing could have prepared me for the amount of craziness that happened in that match. I’m still finding a lot of things difficult in regards to my shoulder, but at the same time I am finding I can push through a lot more things than I could before. Wrestling Nicole for a whole week has definitely prepared me for any upcoming matches we might have.

The next set of SHIMMER tapings will be held in a few weeks time. Is there a specific way that you usually prepare for the shows?
I would usually just be training hard at the gym and in the ring, but this time around it will be a lot more mental preparation because of my injury. I am trying to compensate by doing more cardiovascular workouts that don’t strain my shoulder, because if I can’t be the strongest, I may as well be the fittest.

Will you be wrestling for any other companies while in the US? CHIKARA and NCW Femme Fatales, who you’ve worked for before, will be holding shows around the same time as SHIMMER in October.
Yes I will, but I think we will just have to wait for the official announcements before I can say anything more!

You’ve wrestled in Australia, America, Canada and Japan. Any plans to head to the likes of, say, New Zealand, Mexico or Europe?
Europe is definitely at the top of my to do list. I love the European style of wrestling, and am going to be looking for any chance to get over there.

Are there any particular dream opponents you haven’t wrestled that you would still like to? This question can apply to Australians, SHIMMER, WWE, TNA, etc. – past or present.
Yes, there are a few Joshi stars that I would still like to wrestle. Also, Hailey Hatred in a singles match. I would also like to work with Evie from New Zealand.

Fellow Australian Tenille Tayla recently got signed to a developmental deal with WWE and will be reporting to Florida Championship Wrestling shortly, do you count getting signed by one of the major wrestling promotions as one of your ideal goals?
No, my goal in wrestling has always been to be the best I can be, and work on being the best in the world. That really is what my soul craves. Anything else is just a bonus.

And finally, is there anything else you would like to mention while you have the chance?
Just that I am so grateful for all the support for women’s wrestling that not only myself, but everyone else has been receiving. None of us would be in the positions we are in without the fans, places to work like SHIMMER, promoters like Dave Prazak, and the support we get from people like you at Diva Dirt. Earlier this year, the mother and daughter “Knight Dynasty” duo of Sweet Saraya and Britani Knight made their American pro wrestling debuts as new additions to the SHIMMER roster. After being introduced to the Berwyn crowd by Rebecca Knox, the Knights quickly became one of the most talked about participants in the Vols. 37-40 weekend, due in large part to the unforgettably intimidating presence of 20 year ring veteran Saraya Knight.

Striking fear in not only her opponents, but also every other human being in the building, Saraya displayed to everyone at SHIMMER exactly why she has been such a dominant force throughout Europe for over two decades. Christina Von Eerie Returning to SHIMMER and More News

SHIMMER – WOMEN ATHLETES is proud to announce the addition of CHRISTINA VON EERIE to its next set of DVD tapings, just over four weeks away!

California native Christina Von Eerie made her SHIMMER debut earlier this year, and immediately drew the ire of former SHIMMER Champion Sara Del Rey. After being attacked by Del Rey and physically thrown out of the locker room before she could even have her first match, Christina proceeded to go out to the ring and call out Del Rey for a fight.

In the series of matches against Del Rey which followed, as well as a hard hitting contest against SHIMMER original Mercedes Martinez, Von Eerie displayed her toughness and never say die attitude inside the ring.

At the conclusion of her Vol. 40 outing, the Berwyn crowd chanted “Please come back” to the Punk Princess, and she will do just that on October 1st & 2nd!

Three Way
Madison Eagles (c) v Jessie McKay v Nicole Matthews

During early 2010, Madison Eagles began her road to eventually unseat MsChif and become the third SHIMMER Champion. At that same time, rising female stars Jessie McKay and Nicole Matthews also began a competitive rivalry with one another in SHIMMER action.

Having followed similar paths in different parts of the world, both young athletes enjoyed success early in their respective careers, with McKay earning the PWWA Championship in Australia while Matthews secured the ECCW SuperGirls Championship in Canada. The two crossed paths with one another in the United States during Jessie’s SHIMMER debut, and then again in a singles bout on SHIMMER Volume 30. On both of those occasions, Nicole scored the pinfall. A singles rematch soon followed, which resulted in McKay getting her hand raised in victory.

Though Matthews was the first of the two to achieve a SHIMMER Championship (the Tag Team Championship with partner Portia Perez as “The Canadian Ninjas”), McKay was the first to work her way into a shot against the SHIMMER Champion, as she took on Madison in the main event of SHIMMER Volume 35. Eagles handed Jessie the loss, courtesy of her signature Hell Bound maneuver, much like Madison has been able to do against a who’s who of title challengers including Cheerleader Melissa, Ayumi Kurihara, Mercedes Martinez, and Ayako Hamada. The rivalry between McKay and Matthews has continued, with both tag team battles and a 2 out of 3 falls contest against one another earlier this year.

On September 3rd, 2011, history will be made as not only will the PWWA present its return event, but it will also mark the first time that the SHIMMER Championship will be on the line in a bout held outside of the United States! It was previously announced that Nicole Matthews will make her PWWA debut on September 3rd. PWWA and SHIMMER management have now agreed that, due to the even rivalry between McKay and Matthews in SHIMMER, both wrestlers are worthy of the opportunity to challenge Madison Eagles for the SHIMMER Championship. Thus, the first SHIMMER Title Match not held on American soil will see two of the top young female stars from different parts of the wrestling world both attempt to take the Championship from one of the most dominant women in the industry today in a three-way bout!

Singles Match
‘Rate Tank’ Kellie Skater v Evie (NZ)

PWWA original and SHIMMER star Kellie Skater made her way to the main event of PWWA’s last Tournament show, and pinned Madison Eagles after a brutal no DQ match, which left her the “Last Woman Standing”. Coming Sept 3rd, Skater will be looking to prove her growing dominance in women’s wrestling by taking on the debuting New Zealander. Evie comes to PWWA from IPW in New Zealand, and is a standout talent in the Kiwi’s Women’s Division. Young, talented, and fast improving, Evie will be sure to put up a strong fight against the Worldly travelled ‘Rate Tank’.

The PWWA event will be held at 6:30pm on September 3rd, 2011 at the home of PWA Australia, Liverpool Masonic Centre, Liverpool, NSW. Over 15 female wrestlers will be competing in the largest women’s wrestling event Australia has ever seen. Show DVDs will be available soon after the event for online purchasing.

One of the Joshi 4 Hope athletes from Japan, Ayumi Kurihara made an immediate impression within the SHIMMER ranks upon her arrival in early 2010. Ayumi emerged victorious in her debut contest against rival Tomoka Nakagawa, and proceeded to rack up a series of key victories to work her way into a title shot against Madison Eagles in the main event of Volume 34. Kurihara has been able to hand losses to several SHIMMER originals, including Nikki Roxx, Sara Del Rey, Daizee Haze, and Cheerleader Melissa during her SHIMMER tenure thus far, making her a major player to keep your eyes on heading into the future.

At the last set of SHIMMER tapings, Ayumi’s contest against Ayako Hamada was the only match advertised in advance, and it managed to sell out the Berwyn Eagles Club for the taping that day. Many fans pointed to Kurihara vs. Hamada in the main event of Volume 38 as their favorite match of the weekend. Both joshi athletes gave those in attendance the rare opportunity to see international stars collide live and in person.

Though she was unable to secure the SHIMMER Championship during her first title opportunity, Ayumi is a championship caliber athlete who is determined to achieve success everywhere she goes throughout the world. The upcoming tapings will mark Kurihara’s fourth trip to the United States to compete for SHIMMER!

Japanese Star Kana Coming to US for SHIMMER and CHIKARA

SHIMMER and CHIKARA announced this morning that Japanese star, Kana, will be debuting for both companies in October.

Kana will be part of SHIMMER on October 1st and 2nd in Berywn, IL. She will also compete for CHIKARA the following weekend on October 7th and 8th.

One of the most controversial and talked about female professional wrestlers in Japan is set to compete in the United States for the very first time. Kana, who is currently a regular roster member of both Yoshihiro Tajiri’s SMASH promotion and the Pro-Wrestling WAVE organization, will be a part of live events promoted by both SHIMMER Women Athletes and CHIKARA during the first two weekends of October!

Known for her explosive striking ability and lethal kicks, Kana is prepared to make her mark on American soil against the top female athletes SHIMMER and CHIKARA have to offer. Madison Eagles Discusses Her MMA Background, Mothers as Wrestlers

SHIMMER Champion Madison Eagles spoke to SLAM! Wrestling to promote this Saturday’s NCW Femme Fatales show in Montreal, in which she will be making her debut with the promotion. Eagles talked about her entry into wrestling and gives some helpful tips on how women in wrestling can balance their careers with their personal lives.

On her MMA background:

“I did a lot of MMA as well, but professional wrestling sort of ended up outweighing that. There’s not a lot of opportunities for females to do MMA — it’s illegal in Australia to compete in mixed martial arts, even kickboxing. So there’s not a lot of opportunity there. When I was doing the amateur and all the MMA training, professional wrestling took a bit of a backseat for a little while there because I was swimming for that. I still love it. I wish I could do Ju-Jitsu every day. I think the way that I try to wrestle is different … there’s not just the kicking and submitting, there’s the jumping, the jumping off balconies, all that jazz.”

On SHIMMER’s status in the women’s wrestling world:

“I think for a lot of women in professional wrestling, that’s their goal, across the world, to work within SHIMMER. Because we have girls from Japan and England and Canada on the show, even if they are on a rotation, they spread the word too about how much they enjoy it, how much they enjoy the backstage, actually being on the show and what an honour it is. I think the word gets spread that way as well.”

What helped her the most in forging a career in wrestling:

“To be completely honest with you, although my husband has encouraged me and helped me so much just with my knowledge of wrestling, and realizing just how much I really can do in the ring, it’s really been me that’s really pushed hard because I’m dedicated and motivated, and nothing’s ever good enough for me. It’s really been me pushing all the way. I’m the one that went out there and got my tapes into SHIMMER, to get them even looked at.”

How she, as a mother, thinks women like Kharma can balance their professional and personal lives:

“I think if you just take it easy and let it happen, it becomes a lot easier. If you’re too stressed, if you’re only concentrating on the wrestling, then there goes the family life; if you only concentrate on the family life, then there goes the wrestling. If you just let them mix in together and you take it easy, and just let what happens happen, I think that’s the way to do it. That’s the way I make it work. [My daughter] understands when she’s watching what’s happening and stuff like that, but she still gets afraid. Obviously, we’re getting the crap beaten out of us, but then she wants to wrestle us on the ground in the lounge room.”

Regeneration X News & Notes from SHIMMER

Allison Danger sent in some notes and corrections from SHIMMER this weekend:

- The double team finish hit by Leva Bates and Allison Danger is called the Sonic Screwdriver. It is a lung blower into a currently unnamed variation of the Lovelace Choker. The pull through spinning neckbreaker was also utilized on its own against Rebecca Knox after she interfered in the Knight Dynasty-Regeneration X match which Knox sweep Danger’s foot while she suplexed Britani Knight. This allowed Britani to land across Danger’s chest and pin her while Knox held the foot out of the line of the ref’s vision.

- The Regeneration X tag music was specifically mashed up by an extremely talented friend of the tag team. Both Bates’ and Danger’s theme were spliced with the Doctor Who theme.

- Characters played by RX this weekend were Doctors 10 & 11 from Doctor Who, V for Vendetta and Hit Girl from Kick Ass.

SHIMMER Volume 40 Taping Results Live from Berwyn, Illinois

SHIMMER returns to Berwyn, IL this weekend to tape Volumes 37-40 in its DVD series. Diva Dirt’s Cryssi, Eric and Steven are on hand bringing live results:

Main event will be Hamada vs Eagles for the SHIMMER Championship.

1. Kellie Skater def. Taylor Made.

2. Rachel Summmerlyn def. Bonesaw in a pretty sloppy, slow paced match.3. Mercedes Martinez def. Christina Von Eerie with the Fisherman Buster. Both women were very over.

4. MsChif def. Melanie Cruise with the Desacrator in a surprisingly even match.

5. Jessie McKay defeated Athena with the Boyfriend Stealer. Lengthy back and forth between the two which saw Athena kick out of the Schoolgirl Crush and Jessie kick out of Athena’s top turnbuckle stunner.

6. The Knight Dynasty def. Regeneration X due to Knox interference. After the match Leva did a crossbody off the top turnbuckle on to the Knights while Danger goes on the attack against Knox. Allison Danger lays Knox out with a Shimmering Warlock. Probably the weakest of the Knights matches. Hopefully these two will face off again when Leva is less green.

7. Sara Del Rey def. Jessica James with the Royal Butterfly. Jessica nearly won the match several times with a string of submission moves. Crowd very into this match.

Four corner survival featuring Portia Perez, Serena Deeb, Lufisto and Cheerleader Melissa up next!

8. Serena Deeb def. Cheerleader Melissa, Lufisto and Portia Perez. First half saw Portia avoid Serena until she couldn’t anymore. Melissa and Lufisto brawl backstage as Serena destroys Portia. Serena hits the spear to pick up the win. However, the win was a controversial one as Portia had her foot on the rope.

9. Ayumi Kurihara def. Nicole Matthews with a belly to belly suplex. Very back and forth match.

10. Tomoka Nakagawa and Daizee Haze def. 3S for the Shimmer Tag Team Championships. Long match with oodles of nearfalls. Cryssi and Eric screamed ourselves hoarse at the result.

11. Madison Eagles def. Hamada to retain the SHIMMER Championship after two Hellbounds.

10. Nicole Matthews vs Jessie McKay in a two out of three falls match. Nicole scores the first pin with a roll up pulling the tights. Second fall goes to Jessie, after three Schoolgirl Crushes. Nicole scores the final pin with Roll the Dice to pick up the win.

SHIMMER returns to Berwyn, IL this weekend to tape Volumes 37-40 in its DVD series. Diva Dirt’s Cryssi, Eric and Steven are on hand bringing live results:

1. Daizee Haze def. Courtney Rush with a tiger suplex.

2. Tomoka Nakagawa def. Jessica James with a fisherman suplex.

After the match, Daizee came out proclaiming that Tomoka was a ‘winner’ and that they were undefeated as a tag team. Another tag team enters the title picture.3. Nikki Roxx and Ariel def. Regeneration X (Allison Danger and Leva Bates) with a double roll up. Regeneration x was dressed in V For Vendetta fashions and made several Doctor Who references. Lots of comedy in this match.

4. Sara Del Rey def. Christina Von Eerie with the Royal Butterfly. Back and forth match that saw Christina almost win with a submission. Very hard hitting.

5. Cheerleader Melissa def. Melanie Cruise with the Air Raid Crash in what was a hard hitting match with a lot of power moves.

Amber Gertner interviews Madison Eagles about future challengers. Madison brushes off Amber’s suggestion of Cheerleader Melissa.

Canadian Ninjas cut a promo on how unfair it is that a brand new tag team beats them when they have beat other headliners. Serena comes out and encourages the crowd to chant “former champs”. Serena reminds Portia that she cheated when she defeated her before.

Serena said she had a partner to challenge them. She brings out various women who wish to challenge them. Jessie McKay is Serena’s partner. The Ninjas call her a “Bella twin with an Australian accent” and encourage her to practice being “sexy, smart and powerful” while the real wrestlers wrestle.

6. Jessie McKay & Serena def. the Canadian Ninjas. All out brawl begins the match. The match ends with Portia and Serena brawling to the backstage area and Jessie getting the win over Nicole with the Boyfriend Stealer. Afterwards, Nicole gives Jessie a beatdown before leaving.

7. Mercedes Martinez def. Rachel Summerlyn with a Fisherman Buster. Best part of the match say Mercedes reverse a top rope suplex into a bulldog.

MsChif comes out for an interview with Amber Gertner. MsChif demands a rematch for the title. Madison appears and says she is not wrestling tonight. MsChif says she isn’t a true champ and Madison attacks her. Title match!

8. Madison Eagles def. MsChif to retain the SHIMMER Championship with the Hell Bound.

9. 3S (Misaki Ohata and Hiroyo Matsumoto) def. Britani and Saraya Knight in what was the best match of the evening. 3S is very over and the Knight Dynasty may have the most heat in SHIMMER history.

10. Ayako Hamada def. Ayumi Kurihara with two AP Crosses in a row. Kurihara kicked out of the first AP Cross. Many will say this is the best match of the night. Many spots have to be seen to believed. Ayako thanked the crowd after and said that the Japanese people will never give up.

3. LuFisto def. Tomoka Nakagawa with the Downward Spiral.

Mercedes Martinez promo. She vows to defeat Madison Eagles and become the new SHIMMER Champion.

4. Regeneration X (Allison Danger & Leva Bates) def. Jamilia Craft & Mia Yim. Regeneration X are wearing Dr. Who inspired outfits. Regeneration X win via Lungblower/Lovelace Choker combo on Craft.

Backstage interview with Melissa. She says she deserves a shot at the title since she beat her last volume. Madison Eagles interfers and tells Melissa to work her way back into the title picture. Madison vs Mercedes is announced as the main event.

5. Christina Von Eerie comes out and says she’s excited to be at SHIMMER. Von Eerie then calls out Sara Del Rey for a match. Von Eerie wins via countout after Del Rey misses a capo kick on the outside. Post-match a brawl ensues. All of the referees have to come out and break it up.

6. Cheerleader Melissa def. Athena with a Kudo Driver.

In another return, Rebecca Knox returns to a standing ovation. She says she will not return as a in-ring competitor, but as a manager. She then introduces Saraya and Britani Knight.

Saraya and Britani cut an amazing promo. Saraya and Britani make an open challenge, which is answered by Nikki Roxx and Ariel.

7. The Knight Dynasty def. Roxx and Ariel via DQ, after Saraya tried to hit Ariel with brass knuckles and Ariel grabbed them and got caught hitting Saraya with them. The Knight Dynasty has crazy heat from the crowd. Maybe even more heat than the Ninjas.

8. Serena Deeb def. Daizee Haze via spear.

9. Ayako Hamada def. Jessie McKay with the AP Cross.

Next is the Canadian Ninjas vs Misaki Ohata and Hiroyo Matsumoto for the SHIMMER Tag Team Championship.

10. Ohata & Matsumoto def. the Canadian Ninjas to become new SHIMMER Tag Champs. Roll-up after the Ninjas miss the Funky Cold Medina.

Diva Dirt’s Alternative WrestleMania Match feature returns on WrestleMania Sunday, April 3rd. But that’s not all! This year we’ve teamed up with the good folks at SHIMMER Women Athletes to present a full length match from their DVD series — for free!

Continuing our annual ‘Alternative’ tradition, we will be streaming a match from the SHIMMER back catalogue exclusively here at Diva Dirt for 24 hours on WrestleMania Sunday, in association with ClickWrestle.com.

Last year thousands streamed our free match between Cheerleader Melissa and MsChif provided by ChickFight.

Mia Yim returns to the Eagles Club next weekend after making her initial Berwyn appearances at our last set of events as part of the SPARKLE pre-show bouts.

In the time since, Mia has been working hard across the east coast under multiple training influences, including Daizee Haze and Delirious at the ROH & SHIMMER Wrestling Academy in Bristol, PA.

Recently having made her debut in Ring of Honor as one of the newest additions to Prince Nana’s Embassy, Mia Yim intends to work her way to the next level within the SHIMMER ranks on March 26th & 27th.

Sassy Stephie debuted as part of the SHIMMER main roster during late 2009 as part of Volume 28, alongside tag team partner Kacey Diamond and their manager Mademoiselle Rachelle. During the time since, Stephie has focused on singles competition.

Though Stephie was sidelined from our last set of events in Berwyn due to injury, she will return to SHIMMER action next weekend, as part of our Sunday, March 27th day of taping.

Former TNA Knockout, Ayako Hamada will return to SHIMMER this month.

Hamada hasn’t been seen much in North America since leaving TNA last year. That changes this month with appearances for NCW Femmes Fatales next weekend followed by SHIMMER at the end of the month.

Christina Von Eerie Heading to SHIMMER

With less than a month left to go until the tapings, SHIMMER has announced that Christina Von Eerie will make her debut for the company.

Billed from California, Von Eerie is perhaps best known for her work for ChickFight and AAA in Mexico. Last year, Von Eerie competed in a tryout match in TNA, teaming with Shannon Moore against Robbie E and Cookie.

Women’s Wrestling Season is Upon Us – A Guide to What’s Coming in the Next Two Months

March 1st is here and so kicks off what we have dubbed ‘Women’s Wrestling Season’. Rather coincidentally, the next couple of months will feature a slew of female wrestling promotions returning to action — or as the case may be, debuting. Throw in WrestleMania as well, and the two months ahead are looking rather busy!

It all kicks off this weekend when WSU presents it’s fourth anniversary show live on Internet pay per view. Then, throughout the month we will also see SHIMMER, NCW Femmes Fatales and the debut of Allison Danger’s Pro Wrestling SUN.

April will see a two night return for Europe’s Pro-Wrestling: EVE. And lest we forget ‘Mania?

Jessie McKay and ‘Rate Tank’ Kellie Skater Added to SHIMMER

Two new talents announced for the March 26-27th SHIMMER tapings:

SHIMMER – WOMEN ATHLETES is proud to announce the addition of two of the top female competitors from Australia to next month’s tapings! “Everybody’s Favorite Girlfriend” Jessie McKay and “Rate Tank” Kellie Skater will be a part of the SHIMMER Volumes 37-40 tapings, which will take place on Saturday & Sunday, March 26th & 27th, 2011 at the Berwyn Eagles Club (6309 26th Street) in Berwyn, IL, just outside Chicago! Our last set of tapings featured three truly breakout matches from “Everybody’s Favorite Girlfriend.” Jessie battled Nicole Matthews on Volume 33 in a rematch from a previous bout, and the end result was not only Jessie getting her hand raised in victory, but also one of the most talked about matches in either of their careers thus far. Volume 34 saw McKay battle both Sara Del Rey and Ayako Hamada in a Triple Threat Match, which also had the crowd in attendance at the Berwyn Eagles Club on the edges of their seats. Jessie then went on to participate in her first SHIMMER main event, against her trainer Madison Eagles. Several fans have commented that it was one of their favorite SHIMMER Championship bouts thus far in company history.

Though still in the early stages of her career, Jessie McKay is rapidly becoming one of the hottest propsects in women’s wrestling today. She looks to impress once again just a few weeks from now at SHIMMER.

The self-professed “Indestructible One,” who has “muscles so awesome they make The Incredible Hulk green with envy” is back in action next month as well. Though Kellie Skater has gained a bit of a reputation for biting off more than she can chew by throwing around open challenges left and right, the “Rate Tank” has also proven that she can back up her confident demeanor with her wrestling skills inside the squared circle.

On Volume 33, Skater took on Serena Deeb in her return SHIMMER match, and had Serena on the receiving end of punishment for the majority of the contest. Kellie also went hold for hold with one of the top submission specialists in SHIMMER, Misaki Ohata, on Volume 36. Though Skater’s cocky attitude may often get her in some trouble with the most physical opponents on the roster, she is out to prove that she truly is indestructible and a force to be taken seriously in the SHIMMER ranks.

In 2005, eighteen women gathered in Berwyn, IL to, in their own small way, try to make a positive change in the how women’s professional wrestling is viewed in North America. With the addition of Nikki, Ariel, and Allison to the March events, we are happy to have eight of those original SHIMMER eighteen participating in Volumes 37-40, five and a half years later.

The long standing friendship between Nikki Roxx and Ariel helped create a formidable tag team combination in SHIMMER action over the course of the past two years. With new pairs heading into the SHIMMER tag team division in March such as Saraya & Britani Knight and Misaki Ohata & Hiroyo Matsumoto, this presents new challenges for Nikki & Ariel as a tandem.

One of SHIMMER’s founders, Allison Danger has been a huge part of the past five and a half years of women’s wrestling in Berwyn. With heated, bloody rivalries behind her, Danger now looks toward what the future holds. March could mean Danger’s first shot at the SHIMMER Championship, as she is scheduled to face Madison Eagles in a non-title bout on March 20th at the Pro Wrestling SUN event in Jackson, NJ. If Danger emerges victorious in that match, she will be granted a shot at Madison’s SHIMMER Championship. Allison has also made it known that she has her own plans to be a part of the growing SHIMMER tag team division, with more details to be revealed soon.

Two Joshi Stars Confirmed for SHIMMER

Two more names have been confirmed for SHIMMER in March: Hiroyo Matsumoto and Misaki Ohata will return to the company as a tag team.

The company released the following statement:

SHIMMER – WOMEN ATHLETES is proud to announce the United States return of Hiroyo Matsumoto and Misaki Ohata! Hiroyo and Misaki are the first two of the returning S-Ovation joshi stars who will be a part of the SHIMMER Volumes 37-40 tapings on Saturday & Sunday, March 26th & 27th, 2011 at the Berwyn Eagles Club (6309 26th Street) in Berwyn, IL.

Collectively known as the Seven Star Sisters, or 3S in tag team competition, Hiroyo Matsumoto and Misaki Ohata look to find success in the growing SHIMMER tag team ranks come March. They are another new SHIMMER duo, along with the recently announced Knight Dynasty, who have their eyes on the SHIMMER Tag Team Championship, currently held by The Canadian Ninjas.

Misaki Ohata has been a part of SHIMMER since Volume 29. She was able to score an impressive victory in her American debut against one of SHIMMER’s top athletes, Daizee Haze. She has also had the opportunity to test her skills in singles bouts against SHIMMER originals such as Sara Del Rey, Cheerleader Melissa, Ariel, Nikki Roxx, and Mercedes Martinez. Ohata was able to score two submission victories at our last set of tapings via her unique Fairy Lock submission hold, just one of many she puts to use to finish off her opponents. Misaki’s intention to move into more tag team action presents a new challenge for her inside the SHIMMER ring.

Hiroyo Matsumoto made her SHIMMER debut on Volume 30 against Sara Del Rey, less than 24 hours after competing in a tournament in Japan. She also went on to have unforgettable bouts against LuFisto and Mercedes Martinez on subsequent SHIMMER DVD releases, the latter of which earned a standing ovation and “Please come back” chant from the fans in attendance at the Berwyn Eagles Club. Though she was forced to miss our last set of tapings due to injury, Hiroyo is anxious to return to the mix alongside Misaki, as they are determined to become a tag team force in the United States.
