One Year Later – Remembering Ashley Massaro

“I started training for wrestling and I’d like to show you guys what I learned.”

In that phrase alone, Ashley Massaro earned a tremendous amount of fans during the 2005 Divas Search. Tragically, tomorrow, May 16, marks one year since this gem of a human being passed away. It is hard to believe that it has been a year already.

Ashley may have only had three years with WWE, however, she touched a lot of hearts during her tenure and grew many friends and fans in the process. Her humbleness, willingness to learn and energy showed through every time she hit our tv screens. It seemed that in the locker room everyone also had that same feeling about her.

Just one year ago on this day, she was answering fan mail the day before her passing. She cared that much about those that cheered her on through life until the very end. After her passing the outpouring on social media flooded in. Everyone from her friends, fans, and fellow colleagues took to social media in remembrance of her.

Under the tutelage of Trish Stratus, Ashley quickly became one that many fans were excited to see. She had that edgier look, one that wasn’t common during that Divas Era time. She fit a similar mold that Lita had done, someone who wasn’t so cookie cutter and stood out.

Perhaps her biggest feud was Melina which led up to her very own WrestleMania match. She faced Melina in a losing effort who at the time was Women’s Champion at WrestleMania 23 in a Lumberjill match. Ashley wasn’t able to win a championship in her career, but not many people can say they had a championship match on the biggest stage of them all.

After her passing, several female wrestlers joined together to be known as The Squared Circle Sisters. They put together a GoFundMe page for Ashley’s daughter so that she was financially secured for her education. The women behind this included but were not limited to Gail Kim, Mickie James, Trish Stratus, Torrie Wilson, Maria Kanellis, Melina, and many more. The goal was reached.

Diva Dirt wanted to celebrate the life of Ashley with a video that we put together. You can view this below and we hope you enjoy it as much as we love presenting it to you.

R.I.P Ashley, everyone loves and misses you.
