Rita Cortez Passes Away Aged 73

Female wrestler Rita Cortez has passed away at the age of 73.

Cortez, part of the 1950-1960s era of women’s wrestling which was highlighted in the documentary Lipstick and Dynamite, was trained by WWE Hall of Famer, Fabulous Moolah and then-husband Buddy Lee.

An affair between Lee and Cortez sparked the end of his marriage to Moolah. Later, the pair would marry and remained together until Lee’s death in 1999. They had four children together.

Lee and Cortez also set up the country music talent agency, Buddy Lee Attractions, in Nashville. The agency is still going today and has represented the likes of Willie Nelson, George Strait and more.

In 2001, Cortez was honored by the Cauliflower Alley Club with its annual Women’s Wrestling Award.
