Sonya Deville comments on her new role and says that 2021 will be the year of SmackDown

Sonya Deville made a huge impression as she returned to the SmackDown brand on the New Year’s Day episode last week. This week, she spoke with authority figure Adam Pearce on helping him out. She confirms that she is ready to put the past behind her and feels as though Pearce could use a hand.

Pearce has been pulling double duty on both RAW and SmackDown in an unofficially named General Manager role. He now has been booked into a match against Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble event and he hasn’t wrestled in six-years. Sounds like he could use some assistance.

Deville spoke on this week’s Talking Smack. After losing to Mandy Rose in a Loser Leaves WWE match at SummerSlam over four months ago, Deville said she felt as though her return was never going to happen. Confident in her return, she says that 2021 will not only be the year of Sonya Deville but also the year of SmackDown.

“It’s never felt better. It felt like it was never going to happen. A long 4 months off, but you know what, 2021 is going to be the year of Sonya Deville, but also the year of SmackDown. I’m excited about so many things to come for the show and I’m excited to show you guys.”

As far as this new role she is leaping into, Kayla Braxton wasn’t able to get too much out of her but Deville did say how focused she is on giving the women opportunities.

“I think anyone that knows me knows that that’s just a natural fit for my personality and I think it’s just a great kind of duo with Pearce right now. I want to make SmackDown a good place to work, and I want the women to get opportunities. I have a lot of things in store, and I think it’s all going to be positive, moving in the upward direction, and that’s all I’m going to tell you.”

It is unclear how much time Deville may spend in the ring. There is no question that her mic skills throughout 2020 were impeccable. There also is little doubt that Deville won’t knock this authoritative role out of the park. However, removing Deville completely from the ring would be a mistake as her stardom hasn’t even reached the pinnacle.
