Tessa Blanchard didn’t know she was going to main event Slammiversary

Tessa Blanchard recently spoke on the Busted Open podcast with Dave LaGreca and Bully Ray. During the podcast, they discussed her highly respected main event slot at Slammiversary. Not only did she receive the honor to be placed in it, but it was an intergender match against Sami Callihan.

She wasn’t aware that she was going to be in the final match on the card, nor did she expect it.

She had the following to say about the experience:

“Oh, I loved Slammiversary. It was just… it was a really neat thing. I didn’t expect to be in the main event. I didn’t know that they were gonna change everything and put us in the main event. So that was really, really cool for me. A girl has never done that in IMPACT yet so, that was really neat. Its been an important thing for me this year — I really wanna make history in my own way so it’s like a little baby step towards doing that I feel like.”

The topic of intergender wrestling is always going to be a hot button topic. There is definitely a line drawn for those that are for it and those that are against it. Regardless of which side you stand on, this match was history-making, especially for the IMPACT promotion.

She was questioned further by Bully Ray about getting in the ring with Callihan as he is known to be quite an aggressive wrestler. Blanchard responded stating that she knows him very well and she can be aggressive herself.

“You know, someone asked me that before but, I don’t think I was really because I’m used to being in there with the guys and I know that Sami’s aggressive. Now I know better than anyone that Sami is so aggressive. He’s one of the most aggressive people I’ve ever been in the ring with but, I feel like I’m confident enough in myself to get in there and hold my own because I can be just as aggressive, in my own way.”
