The Fabulous Moolah Makes WWE.com List of “50 Greatest Ring Names Ever”

WWE.com has put together its list of the 50 greatest ring names in wrestling history, and only one women’s wrestler was “fabulous” enough to make the list.

That’s right – wrestling legend The Fabulous Moolah landed on the list, all the way up at number seven.

WWE.com described the reasons behind their choice:

In the beginning — before she was WWE’s greatest female villain — Lillian Ellison went by the name Slave Girl Moolah and served as the valet of a competitor known as The Elephant Boy. The Slave Girl part of the name may have been wildly diminutive, but it was the word “Moolah” that truly mattered. Ellison’s love for money had inspired the handle, and it would eventually inspire her to claw her way out from under The Elephant Boy’s shadow and become something great. “Fabulous,” even. As for The Elephant Boy? He’s just a footnote in the epic story of The Fabulous Moolah.

The name, which was meant to reflect Moolah’s heelish love of wealth, even bested legendary names like Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat and Gorilla Monsoon.
