Women of the Year 2014: Ivelisse

Every hour until the clock strikes midnight (Eastern time) and we usher in 2015, Diva Dirt will highlight – in no particular order – the women who made an impact in 2014.

Ivelisse

What more can be said about Ivelisse’s 2014? From the very start of the year her name has been synonymous with some of the biggest moments in the past twelve months of independent women’s wrestling, from defeating her then-Valkyrie stablemate Rain for the SHINE Championship in January, turning face in the wake of the match and defending her title multiple times across both SHINE and Full Impact Pro against some of her most fearsome contemporaries, to going to a full 60 minute draw against her Valkyrie replacement Serena Deeb and – it seems – being physically unable to have a bad match in the process.

In November, Ivelisse was picked to go on WWNLive’s tour of China where she put her title on the line three times in a week, successfully defending it in the first two then falling to a insurgent Mia Yim in one of the biggest matches of both women’s careers, before a Beijing crowd of over 10,000 spectators What’s more, the latter part of the year saw Ivelisse make her debut for Lucha Underground and its parent promotion AAA, where she’s quickly established herself as one of the most dynamic and exciting wrestlers on the roster.

Ivelisse’s name is always close the top of the list when the women with whom the larger companies missed a trick are discussed. And while of course, they’re absolutely right, remember that Ivelisse is still incredibly young for her level of ability and has her fingers in many, many pies right now. I was going to say that it’s only a matter of time before achieves some truly great things, but look at the stuff I just mentioned – she already has. 2015 is all yours, Ive. Do whatever you want with it.

Come back at the top of every hour to see who else has been crowned one of 2014’s Women of the Year.
