Every hour until the clock strikes midnight (Eastern time) and we usher in 2016, Diva Dirt will highlight – in no particular order – the women who made an impact in 2015.
Perhaps the most controversial woman in wrestling, Eva Marie makes our list as one of the women of the year. Beginning 2015, Eva was nothing more than the face of Total Divas and not receiving much love from the fans.
Although some fans weren’t really feeling the heel Diva stable, Eva was certainly getting their attention in another way. Videos of Eva training with Brian Kendrick began appearing on the Diva’s Instagram account and she was actually looking very impressive. She was nailing Tornado DDT’s, cross bodies and even hitting Kendrick’s finisher The Sliced Bread No. 2 on Kendrick. Fans were blown away and hopeful for Eva’s return to the ring.
Of course, there were still non-believers determined to shoot down her progress. Who better to shut those smack talkers up than the Superstar who invented smack talking: The Rock. Rock posted numerous posts in support of Eva’s progress and cheered her on on her road to success.
Eva Marie returned to NXT in the summer as a full time competitor and looked impressive in some matches against fellow NXT Divas. She slowly but surely looked more confident week after week by attempting new maneuvers and cutting more promos against the likes of NXT Women’s Champion Bayley and Carmella.
Eva even was granted a main event title match against Bayley on the episode of NXT before Thanksgiving, which was one of Eva’s best showings to date. Finally embracing the hate ignorant fans directed towards, Eva came into her own as a heel people just loved to hate.
Although many will deny it, Eva Marie is making progress in the ring. With Total Divas continuing its success and Eva training constantly 2016 will surely be the year Eva gets everything she wants: All Red Everything.
Come back at the top of every hour to see who else has been crowned 2015’s WOTY.
