Women of the Year 2015: Team Bella

Every hour until the clock strikes midnight (Eastern time) and we usher in 2016, Diva Dirt will highlight – in no particular order – the women who made an impact in 2015.

Team Bella (Alicia Fox, Brie & Nikki Bella)

You can look but you can’t touch.

Flashback to 2009 when that song would hit. Most of the fans in the arena would look around puzzled wondering which Diva was coming out. Go to 2015, fans on their feet. Some cheering loudly, some booing, but everyone is giving a reaction. To Divas. THE Divas.

2015 was certainly the year of Team Bella. Nikki and Brie Bella were the faces of the Divas division in early 2015 by dominating tag team matches and Divas Title defenses for Nikki. At WrestleMania, the duo was one of the shows leading attractions against the anti-Divas of the WWE, Paige and AJ Lee.

With continued success and a strong title reign into the summer, Alicia Fox joined the team claiming she knew the Bellas ran the division and wanted to be a part of it. The trio for weeks would get the upperhand over Paige until Stephanie McMahon brought up the NXT Divas.

Team Bella played a crucial role in the Divas Revolution in their own special way. While many argue that the revolution was about bringing Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch into the picture it was also about letting the women who were already on the main roster really show what they can do. Team Bella were the ONLY all original Diva team as part of the Revolution, PCB and Team B.A.D. included women who were called up from NXT. The Bellas and Alicia arguably had the most to prove, that they had this fight and talent in them the entire time.

They did just that.

While the women in NXT were putting on show stealing matches, the main roster women were forced to compete in 30 second matches or cheesy backstage segments. The revolution gave Fox, Brie and Nikki to really show what they can do. Since that night in July, we’ve seen all three women compete in lengthy matches and show they can hang with the women fans were saying could outwrestle them. In fact, some of Team Bella has even outwrestled a few of these NXT prodigies. Add Nikki’s record setting title reign to the mix and Team Bella really showed they can outsmart any tandem as well.

While a clear winner of the Divas Revolution was never determined, Team Bella brought it. They stepped up their game and showed they are the true definition of a WWE Diva: talented, glamorous, beautiful and lethal. They run it. They rule it.

Come back at the top of every hour to see who else has been crowned 2015’s WOTY.
