In a move fans were expecting and hoping for, Triple H has announced WWE’s plans to move forward with NXT UK’s own TakeOver events, starting with NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool.
After what felt like a century, Triple H negotiated terms to allow NXT UK to be televised for fans, worldwide. To shorten the gap between airing and taping, every week, the WWE Network has been airing dual episodes back-to-back.
Last week, episode 9 and 10 aired with roaring success, with special attention given to the quarterfinals and semifinals of the NXT UK Women’s Championship Tournament. Episode 10 ended with the finals cemented; Rhea Ripley will face Toni Storm on the first episode of the Dec. 5 NXT UK lineup.
It comes as no surprise that the head office took notice of how well NXT UK was doing, and how important British wrestling promotions have been to the development of women’s wrestling. With high television ratings and critics proclaiming success, the next step for NXT UK is to get their own pay-per-views.
The announcement was made by Triple H this weekend, during a set of NXT UK tapings at Liverpool. As correctly predicted by fans, NXT UK will have its first TakeOver event on Jan. 12, 2019.
The news was confirmed by a tweet from WWE UK.

NXT UK is an attempt by WWE to globalize their brand, and recognize their fan base and the local promotions, worldwide. So far, it’s working.
Speculation has risen that WWE will even open up a UK Performance Center, continuing their efforts for global outreach.
NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool will air live on the WWE Network Jan. 12th, and tickets will be available for purchase at 10 a.m. GMT on Monday, Nov. 26.
