Mayu Iwatani will be taking on WWE’s IYO SKY at an upcoming Marigold show. The match will be on Oct. 26 at Grand Destiny 2025. Both women have a lot of history together from their time in STARDOM.
On the topic of their upcoming match together, Iwatani talks to Tokyo Sports about their relationship.
“She may be a global superstar now, but to me, she will always be my ‘big sister’. However, she’s not the same IYO-san she used to be, and by the same token, I’m not the same person I used to be either. I don’t want to lose.”
Iwatani continued, “She took me out for a drive late at night. That’s when IYO-san said to me, ‘Until now, Mayu, you’ve always been the type to follow someone because they told you to. Isn’t this the first time you’ve made such a big decision on your own? So, no matter the outcome, when I come back to Japan, I’ll cook you sekihan (red bean rice, traditionally cooked for celebrations) for making this decision.’
So, when she comes back this time, I want her to make the sekihan for making this decision, and then after I beat IYO-san, I’ll have her cook the sekihan again to celebrate that.”
