8. Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Iyo Sky — Women’s World Championship — Raw (March 3, 2025)
Nobody was expecting a title change before WrestleMania. Iyo Sky defeating the women’s division’s most dominant competitor Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World Championship on Raw — with Rhea’s most elusive rival Bianca Belair already positioned as her next challenger — felt unthinkable. And yet, in the main event of Raw, Iyo Sky managed to pull off the shock win of the year. The stage seemed set for a textbook Rhea Ripley title defense. It seemed like Iyo had been denied entry into the Elimination Chamber for a reason, and Bianca won that match to punch her ticket to WrestleMania. She even sat ringside for this match, seemingly waiting for Ripley’s inevitable win so the long-awaited Rhea/Bianca showdown could be made official. But that wasn’t what we got. Instead, Iyo and Rhea tore into each other in a much more hard-fought match than most predicted. With an even more unpredictable outcome.
Rhea’s power advantage was undeniable, and at points it looked like she might effortlessly put Iyo away. But Iyo seized every opening she got, slipping out of Rhea’s clutches with trademark speed, precision counters, and even the signature moves of her Damage CTRL teammates to keep the champion off balance. Ripley entered the match with the confidence of someone who believed the outcome was a foregone conclusion, but that confidence cracked by the minute, culminating in a full unraveling when she perceived Bianca cheering for Iyo. Iyo capitalized, playing possum to counter a top-rope Riptide before hitting the Over the Moonsault to score the biggest victory of her career and win the Women’s World Championship. A brilliant match, unexpected finish, shocking moment, and awesome surprise.
Don’t call it an upset, though. This match launched the defining wrestling rivalry of 2025 in the women’s division and reminded us of a simple truth: Rhea Ripley has never beaten Iyo Sky in singles competition. Nobody expected a title change before WrestleMania, but Iyo and Rhea spent the rest of the year proving they are two of the best wrestlers in the world, regardless of gender or promotion. And this electric showdown wasn’t even their best one…
7. Giulia vs. Jordynne Grace – NXT (May 6, 2025)
Giulia vs. Jordynne Grace — a match between two elite, world-class competitors. And yet this non-title showdown was tucked away on a random episode of NXT. But that’s fine, because Giulia and Jordynne Grace wrestled like they forgot they were even in WWE for this one. If you’re a fan of Giulia and have been waiting to see the queen of strong style unleashed in WWE, or you’re a fan of Jordynne and missed the juggernaut at her most explosive, look no further — these two went all out in an absolute beast of a match.
Giulia and Jordynne fought strong style, as if they’d been in a blood feud for years. Every strike, every slam, every counter mattered and landed with precision, power, and total vigor. The bumps were unbelievable, and there was a palpable sense of urgency to secure the win as these two fought with everything they had. Giulia’s head nearly came off not once but twice (!) from a gnarly suplex and a crushing Michinoku Driver. Corey Graves being audibly (and at times visibly!) shocked at each nasty bump Giulia took only added to the high-stakes atmosphere that developed as the match unfolded. Each woman showed incredible heart, but Jordynne ultimately beat Giulia down and hit the Juggernaut Driver to pick up the win and earn herself an NXT Women’s Championship shot.
Throughout this countdown we’ve touched on the exceptional talent that now populates the women’s division — premier-level wrestlers who showed up, showed out, and proved what’s possible when given the ball. No match demonstrated that more than this one. If we let these women fight with the shackles off, this is what we get. Giulia and Jordynne may have had inconsistent runs since arriving in WWE, but matches like this show exactly why they — and the other women who bring valuable, world-class experience to this division — deserve to be booked better in 2026.
Check back tomorrow as we keep the momentum going with Nos. 6 and 5
