2. Iyo Sky (c) vs. Bianca Belair vs. Rhea RipleyWomen’s World Championship — WrestleMania 41

It’s a story we’ve become accustomed to as women’s wrestling fans: the female competitors march into WrestleMania with a chip on their shoulder, knowing they have something to prove. Knowing they should have been the main event. Knowing they’re going to have the best match on the card. And then they steal the entire show. That’s exactly what happened at WrestleMania 41 this year when possibly the three absolute best female wrestlers in WWE — Iyo Sky, Bianca Belair, and Rhea Ripley — opened Day Two with a triple threat for the Women’s World Championship.

The face-off between Rhea and Bianca had been anticipated for years, and the addition of Iyo Sky as a wrench in their long-awaited showdown set the stage perfectly for a passionate, high-stakes collision at WWE’s biggest event. Each woman felt evenly matched, unloading everything they had in a rare triple threat where no one was out of the action for long. It was a non-stop barrage of full-bodied offense at a lightning-fast tempo, and each competitor made every moment count. There was unbelievable sequence after unbelievable sequence. Iyo countering a second-rope Riptide, only to be countered in turn by Rhea getting her knees up on Iyo’s Over-the-Moonsault attempt — sending Iyo flying into perfect position for the KOD — was pure art. Every pin breakup was stiff, timely, and dramatic. And throughout, Bianca and Rhea spent long stretches targeting one another and treating Iyo as something of an afterthought… only for that to bite them in the end. As the ultimate cherry on top, Iyo smartly stole the win, cementing her place at the top of the division with Bianca and Rhea where she belongs.

Not only was this the best match of WrestleMania weekend, completely stealing the show, it also stands as the best women’s WrestleMania match of all time. Fast paced, hard hitting, and not a second wasted, this was pure high-octane entertainment — a perfect encapsulation of professional wrestling in 2025. This is the match you show non-wrestling fans to impress them. And for those of us in the know, we’ll be replaying this one for years to come.

1.   Iyo Sky (c) vs. Rhea RipleyWomen’s World Championship — Evolution

Everything came together perfectly on July 13th. Evolution — only the second-ever all–women’s PLE in WWE history — was announced to much excitement, but that excitement slowly turned to concern as haphazard booking and a lack of focused build threatened its impact. Enter Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley, two of the best wrestlers on the planet, both on absolute hot streaks. They were placed in the main event. Questions immediately followed about whether this feud had the juice to headline such an important show. People were doubting Rhea and Iyo. That was silly.

Women in WWE have proven for years that they’re total equals (and often much better!) than the men, but the women’s division hasn’t always been given the in-ring, grand-scale epics worthy of its talent. At the second-ever Evolution, Iyo and Rhea seized the moment. They made the best possible use of their magical chemistry and the main-event spotlight, putting on a near 30-minute masterclass that included everything you could ever want in a professional wrestling match.

The story of Iyo Sky vs. Rhea Ripley has been nothing short of extraordinary across all their encounters, and when all is said and done, it may very well stand as one of the greatest in-ring rivalries in women’s wrestling history. They respect each other deeply, but they are always in one another’s way — and every time they meet, they unload everything they have in a battle for wrestling supremacy. At Evolution, they reached deeper into their arsenals than ever before. They showcased dazzling technical expertise, razor-sharp counters, inventive submission transitions, and wily ring savvy. They brought out their biggest offense for risky high spots: a top-rope Razor’s Edge, a poisonrana, a tornado DDT with extra venom, a desperate Spanish Fly, a powerbomb to the floor, and Riptides and Over-the-Moonsaults in abundance that still couldn’t quite get the job done. They even did something women in WWE almost never get to do — they took the fight into the crowd. They brawled through the arena seating until Iyo climbed into the rafters and launched herself onto Rhea on the concrete below, one of the most jaw-dropping visuals of the year.

As both Iyo and Rhea’s gas tanks were dangerously close to empty, the heist of the century happened. In a move not a single soul anticipated, Naomi’s music hit and the swerve of the year unfolded. She cashed in her Money in the Bank contract and became the woman walking out of Evolution as the Women’s World Champion. Naomi held the title high with an evil grin on her face — years of hard work and fan support culminating in this moment — and another of the year’s most memorable visuals was ingrained into our brains.

The Women’s World Championship match at Evolution stands above everything else in a year where we, as women’s wrestling fans, were unbelievably spoiled. It gave us everything we could have wanted and more — athletic excellence, danger, emotion, story, and a twist that will be talked about for years. It will be remembered as the all-time epic that women’s wrestling both deserved and earned in 2025.

Thank you for following along with this year’s countdown. 2025 felt like a gift for us women’s wrestling fans — a year where the women of WWE delivered at every level. Whether you watched every show and weighed in with your opinion on here or caught up through lists like this one, I hope this countdown reminded you of why this division means so much to so many of us. Women’s wrestling continues to evolve specifically because of the performers who give everything they have — and because of the fans who champion them every step of the way.
