Black History Month Spotlight: Jazz

Throughout the month of February, Diva Dirt will spotlight one Black women’s wrestler a day. This won’t be a countdown, but just a way to shine light on the past and present Black women of the industry. With that said, these daily articles will not be in any particular order.

Representation matters to marginalized groups, and here at Diva Dirt we focus on giving those individuals the recognition they deserve.

We can’t celebrate Black History Month without honoring Jazz. On February 10, we’ll be highlighting her impact on the wrestling industry. If you’ve been a fan since the ’90s, you’ll remember that Jazz was one of only two Black women being represented at the time—alongside Jacqueline. Her presence shows just how powerful representation can be. In fact, Jazz began her wrestling journey in the late ’90s after being inspired by seeing Jacqueline pave the way before her.

Jazz first appeared after her training in ECW where she went by the name of Jazzmine. Shortly after ECW closed its doors, Jazz appeared in WWF and was trained further in OVW. She debuted big at Survivor Series in a six-pack challenge for the vacant WWF Women’s Championship. That match was won by Trish Stratus. Jazz had memorable feuds and matches against Stratus, Lita, Victoria, and more. She is a former two-time WWF/E Women’s Champion with combined days of 162.

After her time with WWE came to an end, Jazz continued making her mark on the independent scene, competing in promotions like WSU and SHINE. Later in her career, she captured the NWA World Women’s Championship and held the title for an impressive 948 days. Since retiring in 2021, Jazz has contributed behind the scenes, assisting with training in TNA and at the WWE Performance Center. She also made a special appearance in the crowd at the 2025 Evolution premium live event.

Jazz was inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2023 and hopefully one day she will find herself in the WWE Hall of Fame.
