AJ Lee Gets Emotional Speaking On “Everybody’s Flavor” Being Represented In The Ring

AJ Lee has a huge match coming up at the Elimination Chamber event as she challenges Becky Lynch for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship. This will be Lee’s first title match in 11 years and first singles match in over a decade.

Ahead of the big match, Lee spoke with Unsportsmanlike where she discussed the differences since she was in WWE before to now.

“Just 10 years ago, I was competing in limbo contests and bikini matches. It was a different time, and so, to spin it into a positive, I’m just so proud to see all these different kinds of women, everybody’s flavor. Their looks are the least interesting thing about them. They have a million wonderful attributes to them. They are superstars I wish I had growing up, and just to be able to see some matches like there was a title match the other week that was a Triple Threat, and it was Nikki Bella and it was Stephanie (Vaquer) and it was Raquel (Rodriguez) and it was these three Latinas. I never would have seen that on my TV growing up and it made me super emotional. It’s just a beautiful thing to see how far it’s evolved and it should have been that way forever ago and I hope it just continues to grow and grow.” (Fightful/Transcript)

Vaquer is the first Latina woman to have won the Women’s World Title and only the second, behind Bayley, who has won the title in its lineage when it was the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

If Lee wins the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Title, she will be the first Latina woman to win the gold as it has been held by Lyra Valkyria, Becky Lynch, and Maxxine Dupri.
