Black History Month Spotlight: Naomi

Throughout the month of February, Diva Dirt shone the spotlight on one (or more) Black women’s wrestler a day. Representation matters to marginalized groups, and here at Diva Dirt we focus on giving those individuals the recognition they deserve.

As February comes to a close, let’s continue to celebrate Black wrestlers, Black women, and Black history all year long.

Below is the full list.

The last day of February is here and we can’t end Black History Month without Naomi. She has given credit to The Wingo Sisters as pioneers and early representation of Black women in the wrestling industry.

Much like Bianca Belair who came later and during the current WWE Performance Center time, Naomi is an OG successful Black talent that was homegrown for WWE. She was signed in 2009 and appeared in then-developmental FCW. There, she became the inaugural FCW Women’s Champion. Naomi transitioned into the NXT competition show, becoming runner up to Kaitlyn.

Throughout her career, Naomi has been paired with other successful driven Black women such as Cameron (as The Funkadactyls), Sasha Banks (Team B.A.D.) and Belair herself. She has gone on to become a three-time Women’s (SmackDown) Champion and a two-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion – once with Banks and once with Belair. She won her first singles title on the stage of WrestleMania in her home city of Orlando.

Naomi had an aura around her of being underutilized in WWE. She left the company alongside Banks in 2023. Banks went to Japan while Naomi went to TNA and was booked under her real name Trinity. There, she became the TNA Knockouts World Champion by defeating one of the best TNA has had to offer in Deonna Purrazzo.

The GLOW returned to WWE in 2024, but that return led her to something special. She began running with a Proceed with Caution gimmick after turning heel and being Jade Cargill’s attacker. Her promo with Belair confessing to be Cargill’s attacker was a promo masterpiece. In 2025, Naomi became the first Black woman to win the Money in the Bank briefcase. She cashed in at Evolution during a title match between then-champion IYO SKY and Rhea Ripley to become the Women’s World Champion for her third time.

Naomi did have to vacate the title as she stepped away to start a family. She has vowed to return and snatch the title back when ready.
