AEW launch their inaugural TNT special Battle of the Belts tonight and as the name suggests features a night of matches with championships on the line.
Britt Baker defends her AEW Women’s World Championship against the first-ever champion, Riho.
Since winning the title at last year’s Double or Nothing PPV, Baker has proven herself to be a formidable champion defeating all who have stood in her way. Nyla Rose, Kris Statlander, Tay Conti and Ruby Soho all fell at the hands of the champ.
Baker’s next challenger, Riho holds a distinct advantage over D.M.D. in that she has defeated Baker every time they have clashed in singles action. Riho bested Baker in her first defence of the AEW women’s title back in October 2019. Riho continued that trend beating Baker in a Black Friday Deal match in November to become the number one contender.
On the Jan. 7 episode of Rampage, Riho teamed up with Ruby Soho and once again defeated Baker in tag team action by pinning Jamie Hayter. This continues the climb for Riho as she reaches to become the first woman to win the AEW Women’s Title for a second time.
Can the Joshi star defeat Baker again to become the first-ever two-time AEW Women’s World Champion? Here are our predictions:
John: Although it’ll be a good fight there’s just no way Riho delivers the upset here. There is no one near the level of Britt Baker in terms of star power and until that someone comes along to up the anté there is zero chance of her losing the title.
Nick: I don’t see Riho winning the belt at this event. The event doesn’t seem nearly big enough for Baker to drop her title. I have enjoyed the build-up of Riho never being defeated by Baker and the nod to her never being eliminated at All Out in the Casino Battle Royale and getting snubbed. But Baker is clearly retaining here. It seems Ruby may be getting another shot at Baker next.
