Ash by Elegance shocked the wrestling community last September when she announced she wasn’t medically cleared to compete and actually considered herself retired. She made this announcement at Victory Road and had to vacate the title. Ash’s former student, Kelani Jordan, became TNA Knockouts World Champion later that same night.
Ash was able to return to the ring in January. She has kept close to herself what exactly had her out of action for months. Although she is still not sharing the exact health issue, she shared with the Generation of Wrestling podcast the following –
“I’m still going through it, which is crazy. You don’t have to have an injury or…what I’m going through is a health issue. A lot of people, especially my situation, I don’t look sick. I feel good today, but tomorrow might not. It’s definitely a health issue. I had mentioned, once I have a solid diagnosis…my issue is weird. They call it a medical mystery. I’ve done so many things. I spent numerous days in the ICU that nobody really knows about because I haven’t put that out there yet until I can honestly find out what this really is. We’re on a good track now. It was scary. In the beginning, what happened that forced me into retirement has trickled now into this, and it’s all adding up to being this one diagnosis. I’m just not going to say it yet until it’s out there.
“When they were like, ‘You can’t wrestle anymore,’ I was like, ‘What do I have to live for?’ This is my life and they’re telling me I can’t do something that keeps me motivated. I was not working out, and that’s my life, too. I was like, ‘I gotta do this.’ The doctors were slowly like, ‘Well, this is good, this is good. We think you’re medically good.’ I was good, I came back and I’m good to wrestle, it’s just sometimes difficult because my body kind of goes a little wonky. A couple of days before Rebellion, I have a couple more tests. Knock on wood, everything is going to be fine, but then we’ll have a solid answer of what it is.” (Fightful/Transcript)
