Athena makes her in-ring return in a time limit draw match with Thunder Rosa

Athena, formerly known as Ember Moon in WWE, has made her first appearance in a ring since her release from the company. She was released in November after just over six years. She became both an NXT Women’s Champion and NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion with Shotzi Blackheart during her tenure.

Athena faced Thunder Rosa for the Warrior Wrestling Women’s Championship in the main event of Warrior Wrestling 19 on Saturday. The match ended in a 30-minute time limit draw.

In a bout that many in attendance and on social media are calling a stand-out women’s match of the year so far, Athena was moments away from capturing the title. In the final seconds of the match, she hit her Eclipse finisher but Rosa rolled out of the ring as the timer ran out and the bell rang.

Also at this event, Skye Blue defeated Miranda Alize.

Prior to her return match, Athena spoke at a Highsports Superstore signing where she commented on a future opponent she would love to face. She named the IMPACT star Deonna Purrazzo who currently is a double champion. Athena would love to face her and take one of those titles off the waist of The Virtuosa.

“So, I’m very happy with Deonna and all the decisions that she’s made because she’s definitely made a name for herself where I think a lot of people thought that she would fail. I’ve always been a big fan of her as a person, well, maybe not so much now because I’ve seen what she’s been saying on IMPACT and she be savage. It’s just one of those things where I’m just really excited to see her journey. I never got to wrestle with her, so that’s something I would absolutely love to do, and I would love to take her title away.” [h/t – Fightful]
