Athena will be cashing in her championship opportunity at Forbidden Door on August 24. She will be challenging Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Title in the attempts to become a double champion. She earned this championship opportunity by winning the Casino Gauntlet match at All In.
Currently, and since December 2022, Athena is the ROH Women’s World Champion. By time Forbidden Door takes place, Athena will be just 12 days shy of 1,000 days as champion in ROH.
On Dynamite this week, Athena pinned Storm in a tag team effort where she was teamed with Billie Starkz. Alex Windsor was Storm’s partner. Storm is in her record setting fourth reign as AEW Women’s World Champion and has held the title for 167 days and counting since defeating Mariah May in February.
