Backstage News On Why Steel Cage Match Was Cut From Raw

If you were watching the Jan. 23 Raw XXX episode you were likely excited to see Becky Lynch take on Bayley in a steel cage. A match that had been advertised for a week. However, despite the cage lowering, the match did not take place.

What ended up happening was Bayley made her way to the cage first followed by Lynch. As Lynch got to the door of the cage, Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai & IYO SKY) would appear with a two-on-one attack. The attack made its way into the cage as Kai locked all three members of Damage CTRL in the cage with Lynch. As WWE officials including Adam Pearce made their way into the cage, all three members would climb to the top of the cage to sit and laugh at Lynch laid out below. This would end the segment.

According to Fightful Select, they learned that the match was cut due to time. The ending to the cage segment was very abrupt. The match and the entrances were supposed to get two segments. However, the opening segment with The Bloodline lasted too long and other segments had to be trimmed.

This affected the steel cage match the most and they either could work an angle to set up a full match down the line or they could have had a two-minute match on tonight’s show. The end resulted was the angle that was shown.
