Becky Lynch, was planned to be the inaugural SHIMMER Champion.
The all women’s indie promotion, SHIMMER, celebrated today as it was 20 years ago on Nov. 6 that it opened its doors. Many talents we see today on our TV screens and have loved through the years have passed through SHIMMER. Lynch, Bayley, Natalya, Ruby Soho, Dakota Kai, Asuka, Athena, Mercedes Martinez, Cheerleader Melissa/Raisha Saeed, Awesome Kong, Saraya/Paige, and so many more.
According to SHIMMER co-founder Dave Prazak while speaking to Uncrowned, Lynch was planned to be the inaugural champion before she got injured. The inaugural champion ended up being Sara Del Rey.
He states, “Becky Lynch was one of the first international people we brought in, and I was going to make her my first champion before she got injured.”
Many talents across the wrestling industry took to social media today to give SHIMMER its anniversary wishes. The promotion sadly did close its doors in 2021.
