Betsy Kelso reportedly new lead writer for WWE women’s division

According to a report from Last Word On Pro Wrestling, Betsy Kelso has taken the position as lead writer for the women’s division in WWE.

It was previously announced, also by Last Word On Pro Wrestling, that former women’s division head writer Johnny Russo was no longer in his position at WWE Creative. Neither WWE nor Russo has confirmed this report.

Kelso joined WWE as a writer eight months ago, where former writer Kazeem Famuyade said she has been writing “great stuff for SmackDown Live” during a recent WrassleRap podcast spot.

Kelso has experience as a writer, playwright, director, choreographer, actress, and is a founding member of the all-female sketch comedy team, Shirley Chickenpants. She worked with Disney on script rewrites and the animated series “Peter & Penuta”, wrote for Warner Horizon Television Inc., had television concepts purchased by MTV, wrote and directed the short “Church & State”, and most notably, worked as a playwright for The Great American Trailer Park Musical.

The report of the staff change comes during a time when WWE Creative seems to be in a complete revamp. The restructure includes hiring of new writers and agents, and a resurfacing of Bruce Prichard. If confirmed, Kelso would join longtime female writer Jed Pepperman and the newly announced addition, Dana Warrior.

The hiring and promoting of female writers for the women’s division in WWE will hopefully lead to positive changes within the creative side of the evolution.
