Big E continues to hit a home run when it comes to being a stand up guy.
On the Backlash kick off panel on Saturday, Big E addressed giving women the same grace that men get in the ring when it comes to age. There’s never a question when men hit a certain age, whether it be 35, 40, or even up to 50 where people don’t bat an eye that they are still going in the ring. But for some (misogynistic) reason, women get told different once they get to a certain age.
“The way we talk about age with the women, and the way we talk about age with the men, and for a lot of women who are in their late 30’s it’s ’oh you’re winding down, when are you ready to get out’. But look, it feels 75% of the male side is 38, 39, 40, 45 [Randy Orton wanting to do another 10 years being celebrated is pointed out during the panel]. So let’s give the women the same honor and same grace as well.”
It isn’t lost on some that this came up following rumors of the recent cuts being due to one factor and that is age. Shayna Baszler and Dakota Kai being two of the women who fall into the late 30’s and 40’s category. Women have come a long way in this industry. An average career in the ring for women just 15 years ago was probably about 3 years, 5 if they were a bigger name. That isn’t the case anymore, bur that doesn’t negate the fact that women still get treated on a different scale over men each and every day. Both inside and outside of the ring.
