Black History Month Spotlight: Kelani Jordan

Throughout the month of February, Diva Dirt will spotlight one Black women’s wrestler a day. This won’t be a countdown, but just a way to shine light on the past and present Black women of the industry. With that said, these daily articles will not be in any particular order.

Representation matters to marginalized groups, and here at Diva Dirt we focus on giving those individuals the recognition they deserve.

For Feb. 5 let’s head down to NXT for Kelani Jordan.

You want to see the future of Black women achieving in wrestling? Look no further than Kelani Jordan. Citing Bianca Belair as an inspiration, Jordan is a WWE homegrown talent who emerged in the company back in 2022. With a gymnastics background, there was no doubting Jordan’s athleticism from the start. She quickly caught the eyes of many and instantly became a fan favorite.

Jordan holds some big accolades in her career thus far. She was the inaugural NXT Women’s North American Champion and only one of two NXT talents that have won the TNA Knockouts World Title. It isn’t often that a Black woman becomes an inaugural champion in wrestling, especially in WWE. The only other inaugural Black women’s champion on record was Sasha Banks as one-half of the first modern day WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Jordan is certainly ready to be called up to the main roster as it is only a matter of time.
