AEW Dynamite’s Spring BreakThru is in Boston, Massachusetts and a dream match for many is set to take place tonight.
To open the show is a semi-final in the Owen Hart Cup Tournament as “The CEO” Mercedes Moné takes on the forever ROH Women’s World Champion Athena. Moné aims to collect all the belts she can in this hunt and has the hometown advantage tonight.
The Boston crowd erupts at the opening bell, as the two take it all in. They begin to lock up but end up towards the stage.
The CEO and The Fallen Goddess are quick at each other, but Moné looks to take charge and locks in a Statement Maker as Athena finds a way to escape. Athena gets stuck on the ropes, but Moné miscalculates as she gets hit with a Stunner for her own good.
The Fallen Goddess hits a wicked dive to the outside, as Moné tries to slug it out with her. Moné powers out of a piledriver and drives her knees into Athena only for a two-count. Giving it all she’s got, The CEO hits a wild DDT to send Athena dazed.
As Moné pops Three Amigos, Athena tries to triple powerbomb her back. The CEO attempts to powerbomb her back to the outside, but Athena gets the high ground and sends Moné crashing on the apron.
The two spill to the outside and climb on the barricade in front of the Boston crowd. Athena looks to go high risk, but as Moné gets out of dodge Athena dropkicks her hard into the barricade.
Athena props up for The O Face, but Moné catches her and rolls her up to advance in the tournament.
Post-match, the AEW Women’s World Champion, “Timeless” Toni Storm arrives to see her potential challenger.
