Booker T thinks so.
The WWE Hall of Famer has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind and when it comes to intergender wrestling he has and still speaks against it. Recently there have been rumblings that Charlotte Flair could make her way over to the male roster and go for a championship.
Booker T who has expressed his opinion when Tessa Blanchard won the IMPACT World Title calling that feat the “biggest mistake in history,” seems to feel the same way if Flair were to face her male counterparts.
On his Hall of Fame podcast, he had the following to say about the idea of Flair going over on talent such as Randy Orton, Drew McIntyre, and perhaps even Braun Strowman.
“It’s ridiculous, it’s nonsensical. Charlotte Flair goes and beats Randy Orton or Drew McIntyre, ruins these guy’s careers, forever. Now she has to go against Braun Strowman for the title. This is not Wonder Woman. This is making people believe they’re watching a simulated fight between two equals. Think about this, your sister has a boyfriend and her boyfriend beat the hell out of her. What are you supposed to say? ‘She should have fought back harder!’ It’s ridiculous. It makes no sense. If somebody put their hands on my mom or my sister, it’s going to be a problem. If anybody thinks it’s okay for a man to fight a woman, and it’s a fair fight, it’s a problem. Can you imagine Claressa Shields fighting Deontay Wilder? Look at it from that perspective. If you don’t understand it, I have wasted my time.” – transcription provided by Fightful.
Intergender matches used to be more prevalent during the Attitude Era days in WWE where Hall of Famers such as Lita, Trish Stratus, Jacqueline, and Ivory would tangle with the men. We also had Chyna to become the first and still only woman to hold the Intercontinental Championship.
WWE has shied away from intergender wrestling for many years. They will easily put together a Mixed Tag Team Match, but with the women interacting with the men being very limited. There have been glimpse of intergender moments though. One that sticks out is the Royal Rumble from 2019 when Nia Jax entered the men’s rumble. She would be on the receiving end of an RKO by Randy Orton, eliminate Mustafa Ali, and be eliminated herself by Rey Mysterio.
The lines occasionally have blurred as well in NXT recently during a mixed tag match between Mia Yim & Keith Lee against Candice LeRae & Johnny Gargano. Yim and LeRae are just two of the many women in WWE who made their careers with intergender matches on the independent scene.
