Dakota Kai was released for a second time in her WWE career during the most recent releases. WWE also released several others, which included other head scratchers such as Shayna Baszler, Gigi Dolin, Jakara Jackson, Cora Jade, Shotzi (contract not renewed), Katana Chance, and Kayden Carter.
According to a report by the Wrestling Observer, Kai’s release was said to be a “surprise” internally and she was unanimously praised.The releases for the past several years in this company continue to make no sense to many fans. WWE will release those currently on TV, recently participated on PLE’s, or just those talents that fans enjoy.
What rumors about the releases that keeps making its rounds, which isn’t something new, is due to age. One can maybe argue about Baszler’s release as she is in her 40’s…but Kai herself just turned 37. Gigi Dolin and Cora Jade in particular are under 30 with Jade only being 24.
This rumor of age went around during releases at one point years ago as well. What doesn’t make sense is why do the men have no cap on their age, if this is truly the reason? Eight men were released as well during the recent releases, but with more men on the roster than women….it is a bigger blow for the women’s roster. Especially when the women who were released were actively on TV or at least should have been.
One person in WWE expects Kai to join AEW.
