Earlier this year, the notorious group known as LAX made their return to Impact Wrestling with some familiar and new faces. One of those new names was Angel Rose, who began to take on a new role as Diamanté and quickly made a splash in her Impact Wrestling debut when she, along with the rest of LAX, took out Knockouts Champion Rosemary and the rest of The Decay.

In a recent interview with Jim Varsallone, Diamanté discusses how she was approached to join the newly reformed LAX, details behind her new moniker and her previous NXT match against NXT Women’s Champion Asuka. Highlights of the interview below.

On first being called to take part in the newly formed LAX: “They had this rumor going around that LAX was getting back together and that Konnan, one of the originators of LAX, was scrambling trying to look for people that would fit that part. I got a call and they asked me if I can get to the tapings the next day. Pretty much tapings started on Thursday, [they] called me Wednesday and they were like ‘Sorry its so last minute but this thing is going to happen.’ I’m like ‘Okay, let’s go.’ I guess we had a successful first meeting of tapings and everybody thought I fitted well with the group and I think we’ve been kicking ass ever since to be honest with you. So it’s been fun, like a crazy roller coaster ride, got my hands up the whole time.”

On joining the Impact Wrestling roster: “Surreal is the only word that comes to mind that I can think of. Because, you know, you grind for so long. I’ve been in this [wrestling business], going on nine years and you grind and you grind and you’re waiting for like a big break and after nine years you’re like ‘Man, is it ever going happen?’ but look at guys who never stopped. They got their break after 15 years, so I can’t really complain. The break finally came and I felt like that people started to notice or realize who I am. They’re starting to look me up and seeing all my previous stuff and I’m just thankful that I get to showcase what I bring to this table on a larger scale.”

On her Diamanté character: “Pretty much it came from the mind of Konnan. He was like, ‘Look, LAX, they’re notorious. They don’t play games. I need you to be vicious, l need you to be really vicious. Out of the group, I need you to be the girl who is going to throw the first punch out of all the guys. It doesn’t matter who it is.’ So he wants like that tenacity and that ‘I don’t care who you are or how big I am or how big I’m not’ attitude. That’s what I’m going to try and bring for him. I think I’ve been doing good and it’s been working. I get good reactions online, so it’s been fun.”

On her NXT television match: “No matter how many years you’re into this business, when you go out there to perform, you’ve always got those butterflies. Always, even till this day. I’ve been in this business for nine years and I still get anxious about my matches. I’m excited, nervous just to go out there and perform and do my best. The second I walked in and knew what time it was and they told me I’d be wrestling Asuka, I wasn’t nervous. Like those butterflies weren’t there at all, when I felt maybe they should’ve been there the most because you know, it’s WWE, it’s NXT, and tit’s where everybody wants to be. Yeah, as soon as I found out I was like ‘Okay, now it’s time to like show who you are. Let’s make it memorable, make it a moment.’”

Diamanté also discusses advice she’s received from Konnan, her family’s reaction to watching her on television and wrestling for Florida Super Championship Wrestling at Supercon Retro.
