Hikaru Shida becomes AEW’s longest-reigning champion

AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida is the longest-running champion in the promotion’s history. Shida has held the title for a record-breaking 279-days surpassing Jon Moxley as the company’s longest-serving champion.

Shida won the title at last year’s Double or Nothing event defeating Nyla Rose in an excellent No Disqualification match.

Since becoming the third AEW Women’s World Champion, Shida has successfully defended a total of six times against an array of different opponents.

Her first title defence against Penelope Ford was an excellent match at Fyter Fest in July of last year. Thunder Rosa shocked the wrestling world when she appeared on AEW with the NWA women’s title to challenge Shida at All Out. The match was a huge success. It gave Shida her toughest challenge as champion and was one of the best women’s matches in AEW history. It also solidified a working relationship between the two companies.

Shida has since fended off challenges from Big Swole, Anna Jay and Abadon. She will defend her title at Revolution on March 7th against yet to be determined opponent. Her challenger is the winner of the Women’s World Championship Eliminator Tournament.

Shida has been absent from AEW programming as of late. She has been in Japan working on and producing the matches in the Japanese Bracket of the competition.

All at Diva Dirt would like to congratulate Hikaru Shida on this brilliant achievement.
