Kay Lee Ray makes her NXT debut at TakeOver 36 after Raquel Gonzalez retains

The longest-reigning and record-setting former NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray made her official move to the NXT US brand.

At TakeOver 36 on Sunday, Ray confronted the NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez after she retained her title against Dakota Kai.

First, in a match where Dakota Kai was set out to prove that she is not Gonzalez’s sidekick, she wasn’t able to capture her much sought after gold. In the small build-up for this match over the past few weeks, Kai turned on Gonzalez and explained that she has had to take a backseat during the rise of the NXT Women’s Champion when it should have been Kai herself in Gonzalez’s current position.

In the final moments of the match, the champion was perched on the turnbuckle as Kai went for another Yakuza Kick but was caught by Gonzalez. Gonzalez was then able to execute her one-armed powerbomb off the second rope to get the pin to retain her title.

After the match and during Gonzalez celebrating her victory, Ray’s music hits. Ray keeps at the top of the ramp soaking in her debut as Gonzalez is seething in the ring. It is clear who the next challenger for the NXT Women’s Title is.

Ray appears to have officially moved to the NXT US brand but she has appeared for the brand before while still repping NXT UK. While she was NXT UK Women’s Champion she competed in the first women’s WarGames match in history as she was part of Team Baszler.

What did you think of KLR’s debut? Will she be the one to dethrone Gonzalez and what is next now for Kai? Leave your thoughts below.
