On tonight’s AEW Dynamite, the AEW Women’s World Championship is on the line as the champion, Kris Statlander, defends against “The Toxic Spider” Thekla. Thekla, along with The Triangle of Madness, have been running rampant lately against the current women’s champions of AEW. Statlander has been fighting off these threats in the past few weeks, but looks to exterminate this spider once and for all.
The AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions, Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron, cut a deal with the Sisters of Sin. They’ll put their tag team titles on the line on this Saturday’s Collision, only if the Sisters of Sin stay out of the match tonight.
Thekla offers a sign of respect to start the match, but the respect turns into a slap on the face of Statlander. The current champion doesn’t appreciate it and delivers a hard suplex on the floor and sends Thekla face-first into the steel steps. Statlander takes her eyes off the prize and eats a boot, followed by getting her back stomped onto the floor.
The strength of Statlander whips Thekla into the corner while countering the Tarantula hold. She hits a hard lariat and goes top rope, but eats a slap for her troubles. Thekla hits a Spider Suplex and lands a crossbody outside to Statlander.
The Toxic Spider is doing everything she can to take out the Statlander, and is about to feed on her prey by setting up for her patented spear. Statlander counters and finds her chance to hit Wednesday Night Fever and successfully defend her title.
The tag team champions come out to celebrate, but it looks like Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford have their eyes set on all those titles.
Backstage, “Timeless” Toni Storm has a run-in with Marina Shafir in her attempt to save her “Citrus Boy” Orange Cassidy.
