It is the 6 year anniversary of AEW Dynamite tonight, and what better way to celebrate with a bit of women’s action.
Renee Paquette is backstage with “The CEO” Mercedes Moné as she’s about to break some records. Moné is about 16 days from becoming the longest reigning TBS Champion, and she’s on the hunt for her 10th title. She will defend her title next week on Title Tuesday, but is also on a hunt for a tag team partner for the new AEW Women’s Tag Titles. Speaking of partners, Harley Cameron, along with Mini Moné, make their appearance. Moné isn’t too thrilled about teaming with Cameron again, considering every time they’ve teamed, they’ve lost.
Earlier today, Tay Melo and Anna Jay said they’re psyched about the announcement of the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championships. But as for Dynamite’s 6th anniversary, Melo wants to challenge “Timeless” Toni Storm to a match for the very first time.
Storm makes her return to Hollywood (Florida) and arrives almost lost without the AEW Women’s World Championship around her waist.
With or without the championship, Storm is still a competitor and stands up to Melo’s challenge. Melo drives her boot into Storm twice, but as she attempts a third time, Storm turns it around against her favor. The two tee off back and forth, and Melo finally hits a third boot. Storm fights through and connects with the hip attack, followed up with a Storm Zero to pick up the win.
Storm has the mic and addresses her championship loss at All Out. She says she heard nothing and questioned who she was after her defeat. The former champion is not done as she wants to face the current champion, Kris Statlander, one-on-one.
Backstage, Paquette is with Statlander and accepts Storm’s challenge for her title at Wrestle Dream.
In our main event tonight, Statlander teams up with Darby Allin to take on Marina Shafir and Wheeler Yuta of The Death Riders in a Mixed Tornado Tag Team Match. After Statlander’s disapproval of The Death Riders last week, she looks to prove why she doesn’t need them tonight.
As The Death Riders make their way to the ring, Statlander and Allin start the match brawling with them through the crowd. Statlander goes high-risk on the wall and takes out Shafir and Yuta. Shafir fights back and attempts to knock Statlander out while on the announcer’s desk.
Both women fight up to the barricade, and Statlander suplexes Shafir into the timekeeper’s table.
Statlander crawls her way back into the ring and tussles with Yuta suplexing him into the chairs. Shafir tries to choke out Statlander, but Statlander sends Shafir barefoot first into the thumbtacks. Statlander lands a 450 Splash on both Yuta and Shafir, and both Allin and Statlander pick up the win.
Post-match, Storm arrives to meet Statlander face-to-face, and as they both shake their heads in approval, but start trading fists.
