Nine Matches, Eight Winners, Seven Cash Ins, 100% certainty (for now) of becoming champion…
The Money in the Bank ladder match has been overall very good to the women of WWE. Finally having the women on par course with the men, showing that they too can do ladder matches, the first two took place in 2017. There was two because James Ellsworth is not a woman.
The 2025 MITB event is taking place on June 7. Five out of the six participants have been confirmed and this may be the most unpredictable match in history. It includes a field of half newbies and half veterans. The sixth competitor could be either. But before we get into this year’s match, lets take a look back shall we…
Carmella, 2 Time MITB winner (technically), 4 Matches
Carmella was the first (and second) woman to win the MITB briefcase back in 2017. There were two matches that took place. One on the MITB event and then one on a following SmackDown. Carmella’s first win had James Ellsworth climb the ladder and drop the briefcase down to Mella. Having her win.
Having a man be the one to retrieve the briefcase in the first ever women’s MITB match left a sour taste in mosts mouth. So they redid the match, and this time Carmella won again, but by her own hands.
Carmella still holds the longest time holding the briefcase. She held the briefcase for 287 days before cashing in on Charlotte Flair to become the SmackDown Women’s Champion. Flair was attacked by The IIconics main roster debut to allow Carmella to move in for the successful cash in.
Other participants and stats from the first two MITB matches:
Charlotte Flair: 3 matches, 0 wins
Becky Lynch: 5 matches, 0 wins
Natalya: 5 matches, 0 wins
Tamina: 3 matches, 0 wins
In 2018, the winner of MITB was Alexa Bliss and she wasted no time to cash in. She would win herself the Raw Women’s Title later in the same night against Nia Jax. Bliss cause a disqualification in a match between Jax and Ronda Rousey. She is about to enter into her fourth Money in the Bank match this year and try to become the first woman to win it twice.
Other participants in this MITB match:
Charlotte Flair: 3 matches, 0 wins
Becky Lynch: 5 matches, 0 wins
Ember Moon: 2 matches, 0 wins
Lana: 1 match, 0 wins
Naomi: Entering her 5th, 0 wins
Natalya: 5 matches, 0 wins
Sasha Banks: 1 match, 0 wins
Next up, in 2019, we have a big win for Bayley. It became her first Money in the Bank match, and she was able to come out with the victory. This definitely took her career to a new level as she cashed in on Charlotte Flair to become the SmackDown Women’s Championship. A title that she would dominate through 2019 and 2020 with making her the longest reigning SmackDown Women’s Champion at 380 days. A title she still holds, but is tied with Rhea Ripley’s Women’s World Title run. Bayley still holds the most combined days at 520 days.
Other participants in this MITB match:
Carmella: 4 matches, 2 wins
Dana Brooke: 2 matches, 0 wins
Ember Moon: 2 matches, 0 wins
Mandy Rose: 1 match, 0 wins
Naomi: Entering her 5th, 0 wins
Natalya: 5 matches, 0 wins
Nikki Cross: 2 matches, 1 win
2020 looked a bit different. As the world shut down, WWE had to come up with interesting concepts. Both the women’s and the men’s MITB matches took place at WWE HQ and the briefcase was suspended at the top on the roof. It would be Asuka who would win this briefcase and with this would go on to become the Raw Women’s Champion. Another unique moment took place with this “cash in.” As mentioned at the start of this article, there has been seven cash ins, but eight winners. That is because, technically, Asuka did not have to cash in. She won the title by winning the briefcase. This was revealed on the following Raw when Becky Lynch announced she was pregnant which caused her to hand the title over to Asuka.
Other participants in this MITB match:
Carmella: 4 matches, 2 wins
Dana Brooke: 2 matches, 0 wins
Lacey Evans: 2 matches, 0 wins
Nia Jax: 1 match, 0 wins
Shayna Baszler: 1 match, 0 wins
In 2021, this may be one of the biggest controversial winners in the women’s Money in the Bank history. Nikki Cross under her Almost a Superhero (A.S.H.) persona was just kicking off and what better way to do it then have her win the briefcase. Another cash in on Charlotte Flair took place as Ms. A.S.H. cashed in the following night on Raw. She only held the Raw Women’s Title for 33 days –the shortest reign in the belts history.
Other participants in this MITB match:
Asuka: 3 matches, 1 win
Naomi: Entering her 5th, 0 wins
Alexa Bliss: Entering her 4th, 1 win
Liv Morgan: 2 matches, 1 win
Zelina Vega: 2 matches, 0 wins
Natalya: 5 matches, 0 wins
Tamina: 3 matches, 0 wins
Liv Morgan won big in 2022. Hard to believe it was three years ago already, but Morgan winning the MITB briefcase in 2022 changes the trajectory of her WWE career. Not only was the MITB match itself her biggest win in her career, but she would go on that very same night to cash in on Ronda Rousey to win the SmackDown Women’s Title. This took place after Rousey defended against Natalya. What came after that was booking issues with her losing the title back to Rousey within three months’ time. However, this prove that Morgan could win the big one and she would go on to win her second world championship in 2024.
Other participants in this MITB match:
Alexa Bliss: Entering her 4th, 1 win
Asuka: 3 matches, 1 win
Becky Lynch: 5 matches, 0 wins
Lacey Evans: 2 matches, 0 wins
Raquel Rodriguez: 1 match, 0 wins
Shotzi: 1 match, 0 wins
2023‘s briefcase went to the Genius of the Sky, IYO SKY.
SKY came to the main roster in 2022 and immediately became a founding member of Damage CTRL with Bayley and Dakota Kai. SKY had some success in the tag team division during this time, but it wasn’t until her MITB win and then successful cash in that started propelling her status. She would cash in 35 days later on Bianca Belair in a shocking moment at SummerSlam 2023. Belair won the WWE Women’s Title in a Triple Threat against Asuka and Charlotte Flair before SKY’s music hit and she took the title from Belair in a matter of seconds.
Other participants in this MITB match:
Bayley: 2 matches, 1 win
Becky Lynch: 5 matches, 0 wins
Trish Stratus: 1 match, 0 wins
Zelina Vega: 2 matches, 0 wins
Zoey Stark: 2 matches, 0 wins
Last year’s MITB match went to Tiffany Stratton. A newcomer to the roster in 2024 who was pushed directly to the Tiffy Top of the ladder. She held the briefcase the second longest out of any woman, just behind Carmella. She held it for 181 days. Her cash in was done on Nia Jax and was done after helping her first retain against Naomi.
Other participants in this MITB match:
Chelsea Green: 1 match, 0 wins
IYO SKY: 2 matches, 1 win
Lyra Valkyria: 1 match, 0 wins
Naomi: Entering her 5th, 0 wins
Zoey Stark: 2 matches, 0 wins
