At Sunday’s Money in the Bank PPV, Carmella will defend the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Asuka.
PWInsider is reporting that Carmella’s former ally James Ellsworth looks to be returning to WWE soon. According to the site, there have been several recent creative pitches for Ellsworth to pop up in some capacity at this weekend’s Money in the Bank PPV in Chicago.
Ellsworth played a controversial role during the first-ever Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder match last year when he climbed the ladder to retrieve and handed the MITB briefcase for Carmella.
Ellsworth was released from the WWE in November 2017 shortly after being defeated by Becky Lynch in an intergender match and breaking things off with Carmella. Since then, he launched his own Intergender championship belt, setting the stage to work with female competitors on the independent scene.
It should be noted that despite PWInsider’s report, Ellsworth has taken to Twitter to announce that he will be in China this week, where he is set to defend his Intergender Title in a Fatal 4-Way match on the same day as Money in the Bank:

Adrian Gomez, owner of Middle Kingdom Wrestling, has issued the following statement (via Facebook) regarding James Ellsworth, who has since informed the promotion that he would not be able to travel to China as originally planned:
James Ellsworth was scheduled to appear this weekend (June 16/17, 2018) in Harbin, China, as part of Middle Kingdom Wrestling presents EYES ON THE PRIZE, and an MKW Meet ‘n Greet party. This booking has been in place since February.
James Ellsworth informed us last night that he will not be traveling to China. This news comes after repeated attempts by MKW management to contact Ellsworth over the last six days to confirm travel arrangements.
On behalf of MKW, I would like to apologize to the fans who bought tickets with the intention of seeing James Ellsworth wrestle and meeting him in person at the MKW Meet ‘n Greet event. MKW is disappointed by the actions of James Ellsworth, especially at the late nature of the cancellation.
