Raw Redux (May 6th, 2013): The Bellas Leave AJ High and Dry

Happy Tuesday afternoon! Welcome to another edition of the Raw Redux. I feel like these intros are getting to the point where they are very unoriginal, and not very funny and that’s on me. I’m not very creative or funny these days, but apparently I still have my self deprecating sense of humor. We all have our strengths, right? The Raw creative staff was certainly on their stuff last night, and I’m not really being sarcastic either. Not only did we get a match, but we got two clever segments featuring a vast majority of the Divas on the roster. I’ll be honest when I say I actually enjoyed the Diva portions for Raw last night, and hey. I don’t go out on a limb and put that in these excrutiating opening paragraphs too often.

Oh and did I mention that we got a surprise return last night?!

When Chris Jericho made his way to the ring last night in an especially bedazzled jacket, I knew we were in for a treat. A Dancing With the Stars judging panel was set up outside of the ring, just waiting for me to freak out over. What made the entire set-up even better is that before any of this even happened, we were taken to the backstage area. Fandango in all his glory was seen warming up with a dancer that wasn’t NXT star Summer Rae. Oh no! In a shocking turn of events, the ORIGINAL Fandangirl, the one and only Sasha Zamolodchikova, was seen! I’ll be the first to admit, I squealed a little bit. I’m going to chalk her absence up to the fact she was trying to get her old job back with the DWTS troupe. That’s totally a reason to need time off, right? That, and maybe the fact the ‘E decided to get Summer Rae some much needed ballroom dancing lessons. Girl was awkward and this is coming from someone who truly does appreciate Summer Rae and all her Michelle McCool/Kelly Kelly/Maryse hybridness.

Anyway, after Jericho came to the ring he mentioned something about needing help on the judging panel. Cue the music we all wanted to here! Tons of Funk, featuring the fierce Naomi and Cameron, made their way out. Brodus and Sweet T took their seats on the panel, and then Fandango and Sasha came out. In a complete miscarriage of justice, their entrance was only given a combined score of three by the obviously biased panel. I’m fairly certain the great Len Goodman would have at least given the couple a 9.

The segment itself was kind of pointless, but me being me absolutely loved it. And when I love something, I have to write about it. It will be interesting to see if Sasha’s return was a one time thing, especially given the fact they were actually using Summer Rae’s name on TV. Part of me wants a storyline out of this. Perhaps Fandango got rid of Summer because of what happened back in London? Summer did willing strike a pose with Chris Jericho, the Dancing With the Stars failure. I know I’m not the only one who went fangirl over that line.

Actually, I probably am. Who am I kidding?

The greatness of Raw continued on with even more Cameron and Naomi. They were later seen backstage with Divas Champion Kaitlyn.

Kaitlyn’s “mystery man” was once again the topic of conversation with both Funkdactyls curious over who it could be. It’s good to see Kaitlyn and Naomi set aside their catty NXT Season Three past and become besties. Truly, truly heart-warming stuff. I also love how Naomi actually seemed to care. Saying Kaitlyn’s man could very well be a stalker freak shows just how far these two have come. And like always, Cameron absolutely shined. This girl has surpassed her idol, Alicia Fox, in terms of being “the foxy one” and I LOVE it. To make this segment that much more special, Natalya and Great Khali made an appearance. Nattie, looking AMAZING in a mint colored peplum top, offered to send Khali undercover in the men’s lockerroom to find out who Kaitlyn’s man could be. Of course, no one really understood the broken reply of Khali but who really cares? This segment had actual thought and effort behind it, and I ship that more than Kaitlyn and Saint Tyler Black becoming the ‘E’s new power couple.

When everyone walked off, those damn Bella twins, Brie and Nikki, came out of nowhere with chesire like cat grins on their faces. They exchanged a suspcious high-five and my OMG WTF face took over. ARE THEY KAITLYN’S MYSTERY MAN?! Bitches! They are playing on the emotions of the Divas Champion if this is true and I hope Kaitlyn does not go home and watch Raw back on her DVR. I don’t want her to be heart-broken over the fact that a man who actually “gets” her might not be real. Then again, Mante’i Tao had an entire relationship with someone who wasn’t real, so who am I to get involved?

All this Young and Restless drama led up to a match featuring Kaitlyn and the Funkdactyls against the Bella Twins and AJ Lee, who had already made her prescene felt earlier in the night during Prince Dawlf’s match with Albie.

Showing absolutely no fear, Cameron kicked things off for her team against our favorite mentally unstable chica. AJ clearly dominated the early goings of the match, which shocks no one. Cameron is getting really good at taking bumps and selling moves, and personally I’m enjoying her progression. AJ looked great dishing it out, and when Cameron was finally able to get some offense in, AJ did a great job of making it look believable. I appreciate how well AJ sells everything and my favorite part of the match was how irriated she was getting every time Cameron kicked out of a pinning attempt. When Cameron was finally able to make the hot tag, she sadly missed, but the champ excerised an extreme amount of patience by simply waiting for Cameron to try again.

When Kaitlyn got in the ring, AJ obviously didn’t want to deal with her. She looked to the Bellas to make a tag, and guess what? The Bellas didn’t want anything to do with AJ. They both hopped off the ring apron when AJ attempted to tag them, and a shocked AJ turned around. Kaitlyn was ready with the awesome spear of hers, and AJ absolutely ate it. Kaitlyn got the pin and a win for her team, and the Bellas skipped off backstage letting it be known to everyone that they thought AJ was nothing more than a loser who wasn’t worth their time. Not very nice of them to treat the World Heavyweight Champion’s girlfriend that way. Oh well, right?

Damn Bellas!

And damn WWE for making me actually enjoy Raw last night. I think everything came off great on television Diva wise and I like these storylines a lot! Kaitlyn and AJ are building a nice little story, and this backstage drama is the type of stuff I thrive on. Like I said in my awful opening paragraph that likely made everyone tune out, I loved the Diva portion of Raw. Great stuff and ready for more. Until next time… Cryssi out!
