SmackDown Redux (July 19th, 2013): AJ Just Wants to Be Loved

Hello loyal SmackDown Redux readers! This is Erin, filling in for Steven this week. While we didn’t get a match on this week’s program, there was a big development in the career of one Vickie Guerrero, and a moment we just can’t help recounting that featured the newly single AJ Lee. Let’s get going!

With the return of SmackDown’s General Manager Booker T, things seemed to be getting back to normal. But Vince McMahon made sure to put a stop to it, because where’s the fun in that? Watch:

Vince, apparently still feeling guilt over Vickie Guerrero’s removal as Raw’s Managing Supervisor, dropped the bombshell that she has been named SmackDown’s new General Manager.

Vickie made a gracious acceptance speech in which she told the jeering crowd that she hates each and everyone one of them, because they’re the reason she was fired from Raw. The Cougar is back!

Meanwhile, AJ Lee was (of course) watching intently as her ex Dolph Ziggler took on Jack Swagger:

Dolph cut a promo post-match about his break up with AJ on Raw. He said he was sorry…that he didn’t do it a lot sooner!

AJ, of course, flips out, tossing around steel chairs and beating on them with her fists. Big E. Langston tries to calm her down, but that only turn her fury onto him, and she beats him up a bit.

Big E manages to calm her down with a hug, and the hug soon turns into a “moment” between them. Big E seems to big going him for a kiss, and AJ certainly isn’t objecting to it. At the last moment, though, he chooses to kiss her on the forehead.

He walks off, leaving AJ to wonder what the hell just happened, and how she feels about it.

Thoughts: Fantastic flip out by AJ. It’s nice to see that Big E really does care about AJ–enough to take blows from her and smother her rage with a bear hug. I’m not sure I want to see any romance between them, though. I think they work best with the bodyguard/client dynamic. Besides, AJ doesn’t need to just into another relationship just yet. Still, this could turn into something interesting, judging by the look on AJ’s face. I just hope she and Kaitlyn factor in somehow in the inevitable Dolph and Big E feud heading into SummerSlam. (Mixed Tag Team match pleaseeeeeee!)

I knew Vickie would be back on television in some form, but I never would have guessed it would happen so quickly. Vickie is one of the–if not the–most over heels in the company, so there’s no way the WWE would let her languish on the sidelines. This is a great way to keep her occupied, while opening the door for a possible role in a ongoing McMahon family feud.

That’s it for this week’s SmackDown Redux. I hope you found it to be short, sweet and platonic, like a kiss on the forehead.
