Thea Hail Crowned New NXT Women’s North American Champion

Thea Hail has been crowned the new NXT Women’s North American Champion by defeating Blake Monroe on the Dec. 16 episode of NXT. But was this supposed to happen?

On this week’s show, Hail got a huge opportunity when she faced Monroe. However, the results may have not been what was supposed to happen. The final moments of the match had Hail land a back senton off of the ropes on top of Monroe who was already laying on the mat. This appeared to have perhaps knocked the wind out of Monroe (possibly injured?), which commentary also mentioned. They stated they weren’t sure what happened there at the end of the match.

Monroe barely got her shoulder off the mat after the three count which shows she may not have been able to get the shoulder up. Hail also seemed genuinely shocked she got the three count as she screamed, “what?!?” when the bell rang.

Regardless of how it happened, Hail has won her first championship in NXT after being with the company for three and a half years. Monroe’s reign ends at 53 days. She only defended the titel one other time against the former champion, Sol Ruca.
