Today is the one year anniversary of Riho becoming the first AEW Women’s Champion

One year ago today Riho became the very first AEW Women’s World Champion.

Today is the one-year anniversary of AEW Dynamite and on that show, Riho was crowned the inaugural women’s champion.

AEW has been commemorating the events of last year while celebrating the flagship show’s first birthday.

Riho would take on “The Native Beast” Nyla Rose in the first women’s match in AEW Dynamite history.

Riho and Nyla put on a great match. The crowd was hot, the stakes were high and the two competitors went (no pun intended) all out.

Riho would defend the title four times. First, against Britt Baker on the third episode of Dynamite. Second, against her mentor, Emi Sakura at Full Gear. Her third defence was a four-way match against Nyla Rose, Hikaru Shida, and Britt Baker. Riho’s final defence was against Kris Statlander.

Riho would lose the title after 133 days to Nyla Rose in another fantastic match on the Feb. 12 episode of Dynamite.

One year on AEW’s women’s division is still trying to find its feet, which is a real shame considering the way it kicked off with such a bang.
