At AEW’s Grand Slam in Australia, Toni Storm became the first-ever four time AEW Women’s World Champion in the main event in her home country. She defeated her longtime rival Mariah May whose title reign has now ended at 174 days.
As the match concluded, Storm executed a four hip attacks in the corner and added a Storm Zero, but the then-champion May wouldn’t stay down for the three count. She responded with a couple of May Days, but the challenger continued to persevere and kicked out. May would hit a Storm Zero of her own. The Glamour went for another May Day, but Storm countered and caught May in a small package for the win. The crowd erupted in Storm’s home country.
Storm was one of only two women to hold the gold three times, the other is Hikaru Shida. Now that she has surpassed that with a fourth win, she will likely become the most combined days as champion. Shida currently holds that accolade at 436 days while Storm sits at 424.
Elsewhere at Grand Slam, another Aussie, Harley Cameron, had the biggest match of her career against Mercedes Moné for the TBS Championship. Cameron has spent weeks and weeks leading up to this match trying to convince Moné to even give it to her! But with puppet Mercedes, Cameron can be quite convincing.
The final moments had Cameron go for a Senton but Moné rolled out of the way. Moné capitalized in the moment and hit the Moné Maker for the win.
STARDOM’s Momo Watanabe was ringside for the match.
