Women Declare Spots For The Rumble; Michin and B-Fab Team Up

The women of Friday Night SmackDown (plus a certain two from Monday Night Raw) ventured out into the Moody Center in Austin, Texas for another night of blue brand action on the USA Network. With Bayley now out of Team Blue thanks to the transfer window, who’s next to challenge Tiffany Stratton for her Women’s Championship? We’ll be going over all that and a whole lot more, so let’s get started!

A tag team match between Women’s United States Champion Chelsea Green and the “Secret Hervice” Piper Niven against Michin and B-Fab took place in what was our first sighting of the women. Michin and Niven started things off, with Chelsea quickly getting involved and taking control after Niven distracted Michin and prevented her from performing the Long Back Attack. B-Fab would soon be tagged in, throwing some punches and kicks in the champ’s direction, but Niven would break up a near-fall and bodyslam her. The match ended rather quickly when Michin countered Green’s Un-pretty-her into an Eat Defeat to win for her team.

Another vignette aired for the returning Charlotte Flair. With The Queen narrating her vignette, she says that there is a difference between confidence and arrogance. Arrogance is insecurity, it’s convincing of someone who you are. Confidence is knowing. It’s walking up into a room and everyone sitting straight because they know the GOAT doesn’t have to call themselves the GOAT. As footage of her past title wins played, Flair says that she has crafted a legacy no one can touch. She knows exactly who she is, and she’s back. When she walks through that curtain and enters the Royal Rumble with a smile on her face and a tear in her eye, she’s going to remind us all who owns the night.

It was then Tiffy Time as the WWE Women’s Champion, Tiffany Stratton, made her way out to the ring. The Buff Barbie says that once again, she is the center of everybody’s attention because next week at the Royal Rumble, 30 women will be fighting for a chance to face her at WrestleMania, which is funny because last week she defeated Bayley, last year’s Women’s Royal Rumble winner, so she’s not concerned even in the slightest, and next week, whoever wins will be running on Tiffy Time.

As she continues to speak, the music of Raw’s Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley interrupts Stratton’s words. Ripley says that she knows Stratton is still a little bit new in terms of being a title holder, but just wanted to let her know that she’s a champion too. From champion to champion, Ripley wants to say that she respects what Stratton did to Nia Jax, but it won’t compare to what she does to her at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Nia and Candice LeRae then make their way out, with the Irresistible Force stating that she doesn’t know why she’s catching strays from both women, finding it to be rude. Jax wants them to know that this is a historic moment because she’s here to officially announce that she is entering and winning the Royal Rumble. She knows the fans are thinking that Rhea’s title reign will end tomorrow night when she beats her, and they are correct. Jax additionally plans on entering the Royal Rumble match afterwards because she is going to take Tiffany’s Women’s Championship that is rightfully hers.

Women’s Tag Team Champions Bianca Belair and Naomi make their presence felt dancing to The EST’s music, but they also give their two cents on what’s going on. Naomi notes how the ring is filling up real quick, but that’s why they came out here as she announces that she is going to enter and win the Royal Rumble. Belair likes the thought of that, but is going to enter and win the match herself. However, if one of them doesn’t win, the other will, which is all that matters to them as none of the other women in the ring are winning.

A sweet lullaby blared in the arena which could only mean Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez were joining the fray, mocking Ripley as “the girl who lost her man to a real woman” and Stratton as “the wannabe Liv Morgan doppelganger” who’s holding the title that would look way better on her. Then there’s the other women declaring themselves for the 2025 Royal Rumble, but she doesn’t care because the headlining news tonight is going to be about her. Morgan also declares herself for the Royal Rumble and in turn, declares her victory, believing that she is the only person in the company who could do it, because Raquel Rodriguez will ensure it. Ripley headbutts Morgan, kicking off a brawl with all women involved.

A huge six-woman tag team match was made official by SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis during the commercial break pitting Rhea, Bianca, and Naomi up against Liv, Nia, and Candice. The match began with Rhea and Candice squaring off as the Women’s World Champion outpowered the Poison Pixie’s offense. Belair and Naomi thwarted off Jax who tried to stop Ripley, ending with Naomi now representing the babyface trio, with LeRae tagging in Morgan who became the victim of a double team assault by the Women’s Tag Team Champions. Belair and Morgan were then the legal women as Morgan tried pulling on her braid but failed. Belair’s momentum was stopped as Jax tagged herself in, hitting a clothesline and also trying to use her braid for leverage before setting her up for a failed Annihilator.

The show returned from another commercial break with Naomi and Morgan in the ring. Jax tagged herself back in to give The Girl with the Glow a stinkface, with Naomi fighting back with some kicks for a near-fall. LeRae returned to the ring and made sure to make good work of Naomi as the fans started chanting “MAMI! MAMI!”. Jax soon pulled Ripley to the floor and threw her into the barricade, with Morgan taking out Belair in similar fashion. Even though Naomi was now all by herself, Ripley would get up quickly, allowing Naomi to give her the tag as she focused on beating up Morgan, sending Jax and LeRae to ringside in the process. Raquel, who up to this point had mainly been watching and cheering on the heel team, got up to distract the referee, throwing Ripley off and leading to a tag in for Belair, who got into it with Morgan for a near-fall that was broken up by Jax as all of the women began to exchange critical blows. As Belair tried to execute the K.O.D. on LeRae, Morgan took advantage by rolling her up for the win, shocking the EST. With a win like this, could Liv and Raquel be on their way to potentially challenging Bianca and Naomi for the Women’s Tag Team Championships?

Chelsea Green was backstage complaining to Piper Niven about their match earlier as she was getting something wiped off her face. B-Fab and Michin walk in with The Fab Female saying that the math is finally mathing and the numbers are even. With Michin now having her own backup to counter Niven in the form of B-Fab, The Crazy One is feeling really good about taking the Women’s United States Championship from Green, revealing that she spoke with Nick Aldis about getting one final crack at the belt next week, bidding her good luck.

Lastly, former Divas and Women’s Champion Michelle McCool was present in the audience with her daughter Kaia. The main event match between Kevin Owens and Jimmy Uso followed, where Owens fought wearing a Naomi shirt in the style of his usual cut-off sleeve shirts.

Saturday Night’s Main Event takes place at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas and will be airing at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on NBC and Peacock. The following matches will be taking place:

  • Women’s World Championship: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Nia Jax

Friday Night SmackDown will be airing next week from inside the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, which will be hosting the Royal Rumble inside the Lucas Oil Stadium a week from tomorrow on Saturday, February 1st. Here’s what will take place next Friday:

  • Women’s United States Championship: Chelsea Green (c) vs. Michin
  • Naomi vs. Liv Morgan
