WSW announces tournament for first Women’s Championship

World Series Wrestling (WSW) made a huge announcement last week for their women competitors: a six-woman tournament to crown their first ever WSW Women’s Champion. The tournament will take place during their International Assault Defend and Destroy Tour.

WSW is a South Australian promotion and the tournament will take place in March at events in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney. The WSW promotion formed in 2005, but went on hiatus just two years later. After a 10 year interval, the promotion returned in 2017. Tessa Blanchard, Deonna Purrazzo, and Brandi Rhodes are some popular faces that have appeared at WSW since the reintroduction.

Six contenders have been announced for the tournament. The first entrant will be Shazza McKenzie. She is best known as a frequent performer for SHINE and SHIMMER.

She is the reigning champion at Australia’s Pro Wrestling Women’s Alliance. McKenzie has made a couple of appearances in NXT over the past few years, where she suffered losses to Kairi Sane as well as fellow Aussie Tenille Dashwood (known at the time as Emma).

Savannah Summers was the next announced talent. No stranger to holding gold in Australian promotions, Summers is a former All Access Wrestling (AAW) and Riot City Wrestling (RCW) Women’s Champion. She has wrestled both members of WWE’s IIconics during their time in their home country.

Only one woman out of the six is not Australian and that is Jordynne Grace. Grace has been all over the indie scene of late, mosty recently winning the PROGRESS Women’s Championship. She is currently on IMPACT Wrestling’s roster. At the young age of 22, she has her eyes set on all the gold around the world.

Indi Hartwell, Kellyanne, and Erika Reid round out the remaining competitors. Hartwell is the current RCW Women’s Champion. She has teamed up with former IMPACT Knockouts Champion, Blanchard, on numerous occasions. Kellyanne is a former champion for the Australian promotion WarZone Wrestling who trained with Teddy Hart and Paul London. Reid is the current WarZone Women’s Champion, winning the title in her debut with the company.
