Both the AEW Women’s World Championship and the AEW TBS Championship were on the line this Sunday at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event. And both titles stayed with the women who walked in as champions.
First, the TBS Title was on the line as the current champions Mercedes Mone defended in a Four Way match. She faced a representative from AEW – Alex Windsor, STARDOM – Bozilla, and CMLL – Persephone. Mone holds a total of nine belts at this time, and she had a special entrance where the King’s Guard held her other eight belts for her as she headed to the ring.
Persephone took the fall as Mone reversed a Razor’s Edge attempt into a pin. Mone is currently the CMLL Women’s Champion, which is the promotion Persephone works with. This extends Mone’s reign to 448 days and counting. She is the second-longest reigning champion behind Jade Cargill, who hit 508 days.
Toni Storm is still the AEW Women’s World Champion. She is in her record-setting fourth reign as champion and now will continue her reign at 190 days and counting. She’s now defeated the longest-reigning champion in AEW/ROH history, Athena. The final moments between the top two talents with Storm blocking the O-Face and locking in the TMC Chickenwing. Athena was forced to tap out.
