After a thrilling All Out this past weekend, AEW Dynamite is back tonight with the new AEW Women’s World Champion, Kris Statlander. And it also looks like we have some new gold for the women as well.
Statlander already has a busy night ahead of herself as she goes on to defend her championship against Mina Shirakawa. Renee Paquette asks Statlander if she’s ready for Shirakawa and responds that someone has to be her “first.” Paquette also asks about her association with The Deathriders, and Statlander responds by saying that “things can move really fast when you make decisions.”
After FTR’s loss against Christian Cage and Adam Copeland at All Out, Stokely Hathaway rants that they needed Beth to win the match. He soon gets interrupted by Willow Nightingale and touts Beth as being an inspiration for her to stand up to guys like them. She slaps the taste out of Stokely Hathaway’s mouth and is helped out by JetSpeed to send them packing.
It also seems that after FTR’s attack on Beth this past Saturday, Copeland has to focus on his family.
Shirakawa is on standby with Paquette before her world championship match against Statlander. The Interim ROH Women’s World TV Champion is ready to fight, but worries about the former AEW Women’s World Champion “Timeless” Toni Storm, as she hasn’t heard from her since Saturday.
Tony Khan has teased a long-awaited announcement for a long time now, and tonight he finally reveals the new AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championships. Paquette has the honor of revealing the new titles.
It’s main event time as Shirakawa and Statlander are ready to go for the title. Wheeler Yuta gets into the ear of Statlander, but it seems to prove disastrous as Shirakawa goes all in on Statlander.
Shirakawa has total control of the match, but Statlander turns things around as she tries to prey for Wednesday Night Fever. The challenger battles back with some Dragon Screws and goes high-risk only for a two-count. Statlander battles through a figure-four leglock, but Shirakawa keeps putting on the fight. Despite giving it her all, Shirikawa gets rolled up as Statalnder retains her title.
Yuta returns to the ring happy for Statlander, and Harley Cameron comes to celebrate as well. The Deathriders crowd the ring as if Statlander were one of their own. Statlander refuses and delivers a lariat to Yuta and a message to Jon Moxley saying he’s number 1 as her and Cameron bolt out of there.
