Athena sat down with RJ City for an interview ahead of her match at Forbidden Door. There, Athena will be facing Toni Storm one-on-one for the first time for the AEW Women’s World Championship. Athena herself is rapidly approaching 1,000 days as ROH Women’s World Champion.
In her heel character, Athena says she feels under appreciated even as the one person who has held a belt for so long in company history. She also questions RJ’s motives as she expects he is the director of the black and white movies for Storm and will just report back to her.
Athena goes on to say, “I’ve had all of this on my plate the entire time. For the past three years, I’ve been running Metroplex Wrestling as a weekly independent show. I’ve been dominating Ring of Honor. Not only that, I have Billie as my minion that I’m also mentoring. What do you mean, do I have too much on my plate? I think you’re just trying to find weaknesses, and sure, I don’t get sleep. Sure, I overwork myself. but it’s all in the name of building a legacy, something that you probably don’t understand.”
Athena has attacked and defeated Storm in tag team action leading up to this fight.
