Bianca Belair says that “representation is not just a request – it is a requirement”

Bianca Belair is floating on cloud nine after winning the Royal Rumble match this past Sunday – and she absolutely should be. Belair winning the Royal Rumble match was historical and it happening as we entered Black History Month made it that much more important.

As she sat down with Ryan Satin, they discuss that she is not only the first African American female to win this match but the second in history. Second to The Rock.

After Satin brings up the fact that she is the second-ever African American to win the Rumble match, she explains that she had no idea until Kayla Braxton pulled her aside backstage and told her.

Belair states, “I always talk about how representation is such an important thing and it’s not just a request, it is a requirement. It needs to happen.”

She continues, “To be a part of representation and to go down in the history books as the first African-American woman to win, and the second African-American to win the Royal Rumble is an honor.”

“Hopefully other people can see that sometimes we feel that we have to go to the history books to find history, or to find Black history, when you can create it yourself just by being whoever you are and going after your own goals and accomplishing what you want to accomplish. You are history. You create history within yourself. You create history within your own family. You create your own legacy. I create history without even trying to and that’s when the best parts of history are created. “

Belair has yet to choose who she wants to face at WrestleMania from winning the Royal Rumble. Tonight’s SmackDown will be the first show for the brand that Belair is a part of since winning so perhaps we will find out tonight. Regardless, many are looking forward to her challenging Sasha Banks for the SmackDown Women’s Title. She does say how she isn’t sure who she will be facing yet.

She mentions family in her talk with Satin. You can view below her parents reaction to her winning the Rumble match.
