Latest On Why WWE Pulled Trish Stratus vs. Becky Lynch From SummerSlam

Fans were not happy after this past Monday Night Raw when they found out the long build up to Trish Stratus vs. Becky Lynch for SummerSlam was not going to be taking place. Instead, the match will take place on the Aug. 14 episode of Raw.

Fightful Select did some reporting to find out more information about why this match was cut from what seemed like an obvious match for the biggest event of the summer. Fightful was originally told that the reason for cutting the match was a “good reason.” Turns out it wasn’t all that good.

At the time of the match announcement for mid-August, there was an indication that it was something physical related, which Fightful was looking to confirm. However, the confirmation wasn’t physical related and both women are healthy and were available for SummerSlam. So what gives?

Instead, Fightful was told that WWE has been adamant about limiting the number of matches and runtimes for premium live event shows, which has caused some matches that were being built for the show to be moved elsewhere. If Trish vs. Becky was on the SummerSlam card, the match would have been severely limited by time and the decision was made to put it on a future Raw instead. There was also consideration to move it to the Payback event coming up on Sept. 2.

Fightful adds that neither woman was thrilled with this adjustment which came into focus just days before their Raw match up was set. Cutting this match and not adding on Rhea Ripley vs. Raquel Rodriguez only leaves fans with two women’s matches for SummerSlam.
