LGBTQ Pride Month: Superstars showing their support

For years the month of June has been a celebratory month for the members of the LGBTQ community. The month of June was selected in order to commemorate the Stonewall riots. These riots are considered an important event in leading the gay liberation movement.

Yesterday marked the first day of the month and many wrestlers took to their social media accounts. Their focus is to spread love and support for the LGBTQ community. Sonya Deville, the first ever openly lesbian wrestler in WWE mentioned on Twitter how much this month and the Stonewall riots mean to her. She notates that “securing our freedom and peace is never over.”

Various other wrestlers showered social media with their support for the LGBTQ community. These wrestlers include Kacy Catanzaro, Mia Yim, Nikki Cross, Tegan Nox, Chelsea Green, and Charlotte Flair.

Catanzaro, Yim, and Nox took their support even further. They rallied behind the inequality that the community is still receiving. Their focus is the discrimination that is occurring in the workplace throughout the United States. The support from these ladies has been overflowing and their efforts are not going unnoticed.

As a proud member of the LGBTQ community myself and a proud gay man, I can say this support is tremendous. The allies that continue to rally behind our community are vital in the fight for equality worldwide. Love and support weren’t always showcased when many people were growing up, myself included. The more this is spread, the better it can help out future generations.

There is one other superstar that is worth highlighting. His post on Instagram is a story that he shares about doing his part to fight discrimination. Although this site is to focus on the women athletes of wrestling a good deed shouldn’t be ignored. Aleister Black sharing his support is a beautiful thing.

Diva Dirt wishes everyone a Happy Pride Month.

Check back with us throughout the month for more focus on the LGBTQ community and how it impacts the world of wrestling!
